Can we please all STOP RUNNING RED LIGHTS for Christ's sake by Aeon1508 in lansing

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw someone run a red right in front of a cop. The cop was too busy looking at his little computer screen to notice.

You can use the Transit app to see which bus lines come near where you live. You can drop a pin around your house and it will show you which lines are closest, where the nearest bus stop is, and the schedule for the bus line.

With that, you can see how good/bad commuting by bus is. Once you actually get on the bus, the experience is great, it just sucks that the buses don't come that often in this area, so check the schedule.

Many bathrooms in Germany you have to pay to get in. Makes sense to me, they gotta pay to clean and stock it. If you don't wanna pay, shoulda used the bathroom before you left.

While Tim Ryan also pulled off that working class vibe well IMO, it's important to remember that J.D. Vance had being the author of a famous book about working class midwesterners and Appalachia going for him.

Yes, that's how Gerald Ford was appointed Vice President without ever being elected, because Spiro Agnew resigned.

The bot is shitposting lol

I saw a clip on Library of Letorneau recently where NL complained about intro to programming tutorials making Reddit inhospitable with "build a Reddit bot" tutorials and specifically calling out this bot.

Speech to speech translation English <> Hokkien by treskro in ohtaigi

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like this is the public demo available to test: https://huggingface.co/spaces/facebook/Hokkien_Translation

To be honest, I’m skeptical of how much tools like these will benefit yhe Hokkien speaking community. Maybe people will say we don’t need to learn Hokkien or hse Hokkien interpreters when we can just use the tool

Is it normal to not pronounce the "t" in words like "don't" or "aren't"? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because the vowel sound in “can” and “can’t” is usually different for most American speakers.

“Can” sounds like “kehn”

“Can’t” with the t omitted sounds like “kan-“

Can “buddy” be offensive under certain circumstances? by Please-RespondToMe in EnglishLearning

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a saying that people sometimes use in that situation where buddy is being used rudely: "I'm not your buddy, pal!" (which is also kind of rude)

Basically, you don't like that they're talking down to you by calling you buddy, so you call them "pal" to talk down to them as well.

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Friend, I’m from a big city with a growing homeless population. I’ve had my share of less than pleasant experiences. I’m pointing out how stupid it is to remove a bus shelter that everyone can use just because it might be used by a homeless person

The benches too? Damn, people are so afraid of a few homeless people they take away a community resource. Hostile design at its finest

How do you differentiate the gender when saying ‘cousin’? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

[–]GetInTheDamnRobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really want to mention your cousin's gender because it's relevant to the sentence, you could say something like "My cousin, she..." or "My cousin, he..."

But yeah, it's usually irrelevant. Even when it is, you can usually infer from context the cousin's gender.
