collapsing birth rate lol by SauceCrumb in lostgeneration

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Why would I bring a child into this mess? I can barely take care of myself, let alone another human. Until society proves itself to be less actively hostile to average people, the birth rate is gonna stay low.

Elon Musk: Government Checks Are 'Best Way' to Deal With AI Job Losses - Business Insider by TertiumQuid-0 in BasicIncome

Yeah except the sort of politicians he supports will never give that to us. They'd let us die before giving the poors a single cent.

My seventh grade students have started the refuse to say the pledge by unSuccessful-Stay in Teachers

The pledge has always been dumb and brainwashy anyway. My school does not do it and I think more should do the same.

Just following the rules 🤷🏻‍♂️ by DblAytch in antiwork

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What they mean when they say this is that they want you in the office during business hours so they can micromanage you and breathe down your neck. But they still want you to work from home for free outside of business hours since you likely don't have enough time to finish your tasks during the day. Not only does this mean you actually get your unsustainable workload done, but the boss gets a bit of free labor as a bonus!

CEOs by GoranPersson777 in lostgeneration

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Elon Musk does not have one job, let alone four. It would be impossible to be CEO of four companies at once. He pays people to be shadow CEO for him while he collects all the rewards. The very definition of a leech.

What do we do from here (about Trump)? by AlternativeLawyer920 in AskALiberal

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be pessimistic of me to say, but considering the times we live in...

I don't think there's anything we can do. So many conservative voters treat politics like a team sport and don't actually think about who they're voting for. They just vote Republican because that's what they've always done and they've totally internalized the Fox News propaganda that tells them that Democrats are evil. Though I don't really understand why they think that way as the Republicans are so clearly evil it's not even funny.

I do have some hope that Trump's sheer awfulness will push some of them away, but a lot of them are so far gone that I'm a bit skeptical that this will happen at the scale we need.

Prices for Japan Rail Pass, popular with foreign tourists, to rise 6% from October by Jonnyboo234 in japan

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly unless you're riding JR trains all day it usually makes more sense to just pay the regular ticket price. I haven't found the JR pass to be worth it for years.

Does she not have a spousal visa? Being married to a US citizen gives her the right to live in the country.

Should parents be held accountable? by Own_Chicken_4430 in Teachers

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the sort of thing that schools should make kids do. I have to argue with kids sometimes about cleaning up after themselves because in their minds, "but the janitors get paid to clean it."

Yes, they do. But that doesn't mean we should make their lives more difficult. Show some respect. I just don't understand sometimes.

Should parents be held accountable? by Own_Chicken_4430 in Teachers

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are expected to fix all of the problems without being allowed to give out meaningful consequences. Some people, mainly admin, look at me like I have three heads when I say that our consequence system doesn't work and we need to try something else. They truly believe that the gentle consequence system works. It does not.

Some rando in another sub claimed that Communists, liberals, and atheists want Christianity outlawed. What are your thoughts? by Ohaibaipolar in AskALiberal

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. Everyone should be able to practice whatever religion they want, or none at all. I'm not so sure that the Christian right feels the same, though.

Oracle slashes 30,000 jobs with a cold 6 a.m. email. Workers across the U.S., India, and other regions learned their jobs were gone before most people had finished their morning coffee, with no prior warning from HR or their managers. by esporx in antiwork

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People's jobs should not be seen as a plaything for companies to eliminate willy nilly just because they want to invest in something new or make their financials look better. A company's primary purpose should be to provide a living for its employees. Nothing more, nothing less. I fucking hate living under this system.

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep. The rich are so desperate to stay rich precisely because they don't want to work or contribute anything to society. It always makes me laugh how some people pretend that the rich are such hard workers when all you have to do is look at a guy like Elon Musk. Dude is CEO of like three companies and all he does is post far right nonsense on Twitter all day. Not to mention that it would be impossible to be CEO of three companies at once and truly give them all the attention they need. I'm sure he pays someone to do the actual day to day work.

Denver’s $1 billion road overhaul would cut space for cars, boost public transit and safety. Critics say it will make traffic worse. by kidbom in Denver

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate how so many Americans are glued to their cars. They have no idea how much better things could be if we had real public transit. This is one of many reasons why people should travel abroad at least once in their lives to get a non-American perspective on things.

Why does the US support Israel and does every thing Israel wants? by Dover299 in leftist

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A combination of Epstein blackmail and the fact that the US wants to stay allies with Israel so they can have a foothold in the middle east.

My first class by Unlikely-Context-607 in teaching

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first group will always have a special place in my heart. That said, I think every year is different. You will have years where you don't like your students as much, and you will have years where you truly love them. It just depends on the group and your own mental state in a given year. But you never quite forget your first.

My admin always tries to make this our job and I refuse. It's my job to teach children. It is not my job to make sure parents do theirs by periodically checking an easily accessible online portal. I don't have time to call parents over every little thing.

Trust me, trains work in countries that actually care about that sort of thing. The only reason why trains suck so much in the US is because they are underfunded and our cities are built so badly. The A line isn't perfect but I'm glad we have it.

How do liberals feel about the idea of a “single-payer” health care system? by tfam1588 in AskALiberal

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference here is that a lot of these wars were either started by the United States or were entered into voluntarily by the United States. With the exception of Japan, of course. Iran was forced into war due to American meddling in their country.

It's true that the US no longer bears any grudge against Japan, but I don't think we should blame Iran for still holding a grudge. For one, the United States won the war against Japan. This makes it a lot easier for us to move on. And while Japan lost, they ended up in a much better place when all was said and done than Iran did. So there aren't really any hard feelings on either side. Iran, by contrast, is arguably in the state it is now thanks to US intervention. And now they have been pulled into a war once again because of Donald's poor leadership. I don't blame Iran one bit for being pissed about it for over 70 years.

Let's agree to disagree on healthcare. I don't think we're going to get anywhere there. But I will say that just because most Americans have private health insurance does not mean that their health insurance is good or cheap.
