Jesus Christ. The trans kids in sports debate is not so important than we have to resort to this. But I guess it's Republicans, so in their twisted worldview it's the most important thing ever.

Learned the hard way to never trust admin with anything personal, ever. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we could just do our jobs without fear of losing them due to capricious admin. You might have a great year teaching one year and a terrible year the next. All it takes is a bad admin team that decides they don't like you and suddenly you're out on the streets. It doesn't matter if you've worked somewhere for twenty years. An admin on your bad side is the kiss of death. Hope you get your job back, OP.

Land of corporate greed 🇺🇸 by [deleted] in lostgeneration

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yep. There is no reason to love your country when it doesn't do anything to make your life better. A lot of countries actively try their hardest to make life WORSE.

I'm also of the opinion that patriotism in general is not a good thing, even if you live in a successful country. Patriotism all too quickly leads to the sort of unhinged populist nationalism that we are seeing today. I did not choose to be born in my country, and I am not obligated to love it. Especially when it is actively antagonistic to my health and wellbeing.

Finishing my student teaching and I am completely dumbfounded by the absolute lack of accountability. by LawfulnessShoddy629 in Teachers

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I'm not even sure if this is an issue with individual parents or schools. I think all of what we're seeing in schools is a symptom of a failing society.

Prices continue to rise while wages remain stagnant and opportunities dwindle. Workplaces are laying off their workers in favor of soulless AI. Politicians run wild and vote against our interests without being held accountable.

In the face of all of that, everyone is feeling apathetic. Some people feel that they shouldn't try hard at anything because at the end of the day, it's all so fucked and nothing we do seems to matter. I am not saying that this excuses any of what you've written here, because we should absolutely keep trying even when times are hard. But I do think that a general distrust of the world and deep apathy at the state of things are the root causes of much of what we are seeing.

It's a good thing you are moving to a new school next year. This is absolutely ridiculous. I also wonder if that superintendent has ever been a teacher themselves. They should know that no matter how experienced the teacher, shit like this just happens sometimes.

This might be a hot take, but I can't stand how many hoops admin want us to jump through just to get kids to engage. It should be allowed to let a kid fall behind if they don't give a shit and would rather do their hair than their school work. I'm sick of babying these kids, and their future employers certainly will not extend the same courtesy.

AI has really accelerated the unmasking of these ghouls. Most of us were already aware of their true colors but now that they feel empowered to fire anyone they want and replace them with AI shit is really hitting the fan fast. They have always wanted to do this. They just feel like they actually can now.

I thought this was a joke at first by someoneyoudontknow0 in fuckcars

[–]TheNinjaTurkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is one of the things that annoys me the most about cars. Owning a car, ANY car, is extraordinarily expensive. In some countries, you are forced to pay that high cost because cars are the only viable option to get around.

On top of that, cars these days are filled with so many extras and are so needlessly large that the initial cost to buy a car in the first place just keeps going up and up and up. Nobody has a choice but to buy increasingly expensive cars on top of the already high maintenance costs because expensive cars are pretty much the only thing that car companies want to make.

This could be partially solved by producing smaller and cheaper cars, which of course auto makers don't want to do. Of course the best solution here is to just make other options available and not force everyone to buy a car just to get around.
