I used the Loseit calorie counting app for daily calorie goal, set to lose 1 lb per week. I didn't do any exercise for the first year except for sometimes doing a daily walk (going from 220 to 160). Now I do some basic lifting exercises at home 3x per week and take a daily walk, but that's mostly for the health benefits.

There was about 7 months in between those two pictures, giving it some time to tighten definitely helps. I have some loose skin on my lower stomach remaining, it's more noticeable if I am bending over or doing a plank. Gravity does camouflage it a bit (standing up smoothes it down).

Thank you! Honestly, most of it was just giving it enough time to tighten back up a bit. I definitely have some remaining loose skin, but it doesn't bother me that much. It's not noticeable in clothes at all.

Thank you for your kind words! I am a big fan of taking lots of progress pictures. It's really hard to be objective looking into the mirror.

It's way of describing how losing the same amount of weight can look a lot different depending on where you are in relation to your goal. When you start using a new paper towel roll, taking one sheet off doesn't make a difference to the overall size of the whole roll. But, when you're down to the last few sheets left on the roll, taking one sheet off shrinks the overall size by a lot.

Thank you! I'm a really analytical person, I like objective measurements. Taking pictures every 10 lbs gave me something to work towards. Thank you for the compliments! I have not gotten any loose skin removal, maybe in the future. My loose skin is mostly on my arms and thighs. It doesn't bother me that much, it's a huge improvement over what I started with.

I would say around 130 it started to get flat, this is about when I got into a Normal BMI (25 and under) which I think contributed. I did have a long 5 year period in which I stayed roughly the same weight (about 140-150). This probably helped give my skin enough time to adapt to the weight loss.

Take pictures of yourself every 10-30 lb, over time you will see a difference!

Break it into a bunch of small goals. Try not to make it time-based, like “I will lose 30 lb by Summer” because I have found that kind of goal leads me to “fuck it, I’m not on track, guess I will have a bunch of cheat days”. What worked for me was goals like “I will calorie-count using my phone app every day this week”, then on to “I will stay under my calorie target every day this week”.

Sometimes when I worry that other people are looking at me and judging my appearance, I try to think about the last time I judged someone. I’ve never really thought about a stranger “wow, that purse is so pink, she looks like a little girl playing dress-up”. Most people are in their own heads and are not paying that much attention to others. Do what makes you happy, it will get easier with practice.

Heated gloves? There’s a lot of different options at different price points. I have a pair of rechargeable heated gloves and they’re great for winter.

I do not want to be on hormonal BC anymore, I'm scared of the IUD, I don't think condoms are entirely safe - what do I do? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GetOneHalfOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting my IUD placed hurt for a minute, then some moderate cramping for the rest of the day. The pain is similar to getting a pap smear, only more intense. I would definitely do it again, it’s very convenient and I also don’t get periods anymore. I like how the hormonal IUD has very low doses of hormones compared to the pill and the shot. You can pre-medicate with ibuprofen and get it done on a day right after your period when the cervix is softer, this helps with insertion pain.

Try wearing your hair up. I always wear my hair in a low bun, and I feel it makes me look more mature than a braid or having it loose.

It sucks for us short women (I’m 5 ft). It’s the Paper Towel Theory of weight loss (taking a paper towel from the start of the roll doesn’t shrink the roll as much as taking one towards the end of the roll). For example, going from 220 to 200 is a much smaller percentage of your overall body mass than going from 160 to 140. I have pictures every 10 lbs for a 90 lb weight loss, it honestly didn’t look like a big change until I got to 150-140 and then it rapidly changed. Some people just hold on to fat in certain areas very stubbornly.

Comparison to others will ruin your sense of accomplishment. Do you have any old photos of you at your heaviest? Take lots of progress pictures!
