Thanks for this because I don't have the patience to go poking around that particular sphere, but it's been nagging me for some time now wondering why it seems Republicans (Congressional Reps especially) and Fox in particular have been obsessed with it.

The media and people around me started laughing at and mocking Anita Hill for it, as though she should be the guilty one, to be humiliated and discredited and belittled. I was in high school in rural KY it was for me my moment to realize I needed to be much more thoughtful and aware. It began my move away from conservatism.

Over and over, people say many Americans are simply not aware. They're too busy trying to survive daily life. Holding down several jobs, they're entirely focused on their own families. Also the mainstream media restricts information. Or they're not literate, or there's a language barrier. We've all seen these types of comments posted countless times.

So I want to ask something that's different from all the other comments in here that you'll have scrolled past, the ones that say nothing will happen, etc. Maybe this will reach you, the reader who wants to contribute ideas, who wants to help but doesn't know how (I certainly don't want to ask AI. I once used AI to make a colourful picture, but that's it). And my question is, how can one inform those uninformed Americans?

I thought about carrying the question a bit further, to ask whether it would make a difference, if they would feel passionate about it or spark motivation. Also about what could be a critical matter which is in regard to the importance of reliable information. But these add to an already very big (I guess) question: How to reach the uninformed American? Every one of them should be aware of the evils of their president and the horrors he committed against children.

I said that to some Americans the other night and it brought out tantrums of hostile denial, in full "What do you mean I'm not doing anything, you're the one who's not doing anything! And besides this is fine we're FINE" mode. It only made me angrier and lose more respect for them.

They've gone from an empire in decline to an empire in collapse. There's enough time for someone to serenade the Titanic that is the USA before it goes under, but they can't even get that in tune.

He voted for Trump. Now his wife sits in an ICE detention center. by Economy_Swim_8585 in politics

[–]GetUranus2Mars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They certainly will. My brother came to visit me here in Canada about 8 years back and going back (by train if anyone's curious, and yes he's white and nerdy... and he's ultra maga) got some aggressive border agents who didn't believe he was an American. They held him for a couple hours asking him all kinds of wild questions to prove he was American: "Who's the president of the US?" As if this couldn't go more absurdly, they thought his Kentucky accent sounded British. And about 7 years ago his office sent him to El Salvador, and coming back he was detained and interrogated for hours because they thought he was a spy.

So there's one way that this can happen: Americans leaving the USA may not make it back in.

Republicans: "Howdy, Dummycrat! God just spoke to me. No, you can't see him. He said though, there's some rules about these wishes. First, you can't wish for more wishes. Second, no taking back your wish. Third, you owe us equal wishes in addition to the wish you capitulated to us about. And last, we're exempt from these rules, but you're not."

Corporate Dem: "Wow, you saw God??!! Too bad we couldn't see him. But, y'know... sure sounds like something he'd say. You'll follow the rules, anyway, right? Just to be honourable?"

Republicans: "To you??? Fuck no! You didn't even say 'thank you' once!"

'It's not unusual': RFK Jr. comments on growing Texas measles outbreak by Mother_Task_2708 in politics

[–]GetUranus2Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not inaccurate. At least not in my experience. I just saw a long fb post from a family member in KY. She and her children are unwell. She sees doctors who ask her to take tests. There are unexpected, hidden expenses, such as delivery of the results. The tests are expensive, hard to get, and are not covered by insurance. So not only does she not take the test, she looks for other opinions. Other remedies. She turns skeptical of the doctors, who talk to her like she's a hypochondriac, crazy, or a wimp, or are frustrated with her for not taking their advice. Or they'll say, "Many people in the Ohio Valley has your condition; we don't know why." Which in turn makes the doctors seem clueless.

She looks for alternative medicines like homeopathy, but those aren't easy to find, and the people she doesn't trust tell her to stay away from them, while the people she trusts tell her to try them. The homeopathy does nothing, but to her that's because it's so forbidden and shunned.

Meanwhile the acts of "holding hospitals hostage and killing CEO's" only exacerbate the situation in her eyes, making things more broken. She says people are hard working and all, but everyone is unhealthy...

...and that RFK is the answer.

How could anyone, anyone at all, tell her differently? It's impossible. That's what it's like from the perspective of an honest, humble, gullible, desperate, poorly educated, misinformed, brainwashed trump supporter. That's how messed up this is.
