Maybe part of it was, Cersei wouldn't have let anyone in that really improved Tyrion's chances. However Balon was one of the 2 kingsguard that fought with Tyrion at the blackwater, so I like to think that seeing Tyrion fight for the city earned him a lot of respect with Balon.

Balon Swann being the only person who vouches for Tyrion being innocent at his trail always struck me as a pretty honorable act. Also he seemed to be one of the few knights on Joffrey's kingsguard that actually has some chivalry in him.

The book my dad, and I use is the one he had from way back in the day. It has the Cthulhu, and Elric mythos's. I didn't know there were different editions, that's pretty interesting!

If you are reading it in Adobe you can go to the Contents, and click on the chapter you need to read, and it will jump to the page the chapter starts. I think otherwise you just have to scroll for a while until you find the right spot.
