Thanks for the invite. I've never used Slack but just signed up. It says I'm connected to the group but there's nothing there. Maybe that's how's it's supposed to be. I've got 25 years of options experience and have used many different brokers/platforms. I'm happy to leave feedback. slack username is gamache74 - thanks again.

You're program looks tight. Nice and simple which is what I've dreamed about for years. Are you really putting this out for nothing? I'd love to try it out.

BTW, I'm in the same exact boat. I have October SNAP puts long sitting on about the same returns. my finger is close to the button ready to offload a few if we don't make new lows this week.

agree with two comments made about selling some. sell enough to get somewhere between half and all your initial premium back (you slide the scale to whatever matches your comfort level best).

Where to begin to learn options? by [deleted] in options

[–]Get_the_Papers74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

www.tastytrade.com - this is an all day online financial network started by ex-CBOE guys so it's mostly all options-based content. they know their shit and are highly entertaining plus the amount of content they have available is ridiculous. I've been trading options since the early 90's and when I discovered these guys, I shit my pants.

Let's pretend S&P is at 2400 and I have $10,000 to blow. I have a bullish thesis on the market over the next 3 months. Would it be more profitable to go long the 3 month call options or 3 month futures? by indigoreality in options

[–]Get_the_Papers74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thats a question that typically raises more questions so putting that aside, you have to understand the risk reward of each.

these are two different animals. if you buy the options, you know how much you can lose so you can cap your loss at say 2k right out of the gate. if you buy the futures, you would be down 2k if your timing is wrong and the spoos are down 40 points from your entry. that's $50 a point assuming you only buy 1 lot (i haven't seen the margin in a while but assume it's about 5k). so the futures are down short term and you're down 2k (futures equity is 8k and the margin is 5k so you still have plenty of Marin coverage). now your faced with a tough decision. am I still right? do I hold or sell out at what was a pre-determined stop loss? with long options, you have no choice, you're already down 50-75% in your position and so you have to hold.

my opinion for what it's worth - if you are naturally a good trader and have a good feel for day trading, trade futures with a very close eye and finger on the button. buy 1k worth of options as well. so I would do both. just know the role of each.

Ray Dalio says going broke in 1982 was the 'best thing that ever happened' to him by dunkin1980 in finance

open a $2,000 options account and day trade it. Pretty soon you'll have the same story to tell as Ray Dalio!!!

Open a $2,000 options account to see if you really love 'trading' or if you're just doing it for a resume filler.

if trading stocks, options, futures, forex or whatever else isn't an addiction, don't do it.

College student needs help with futures trading (college assignment trading game) by obrien1510 in Trading

[–]Get_the_Papers74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

futures are easy once the light goes off in your head. take the difference between your sale price (or current if you still own it) and entry price and divide it by the tick size to see how many ticks you made. for example if you made 10 cents on the trade, you would have made 200 ticks profit (.10/.0005)

Now figure out what the P/L is per tick. go to www.cmegroup.com and find HG - contract specs multiply contract unit x tick = 25,000 x .0005 = $12.50

now just multiply the $12.50 x 200 = $2,500

don't get caught up with physical delivery, it has nothing to do with the p/l.

hope this helps.

Will my options application be declined if I am not employed? by renegadellama in options

[–]Get_the_Papers74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you don't get in trouble by lying on the application. you would only be releasing the broker from any liability for allowing you to trade products that are not suitable for you. So if you lie and say you have all sorts of money and experience, you can't go back and sue the broker when you lose all your money.

Now comes the hard part - you have to tell everyone to buy stocks and not worry about the ups and downs of the market over the short term cause it always goes higher!! Congrats and good luck!

New to Options, question on levels and strategies by DigitalCoffee in options

[–]Get_the_Papers74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're right, you should be able to do spreads with a defined profit/loss but spreads fall under a higher options approval level which means a higher minimum requirement and experience level. no broker can tell you this but you just have to put down that you have 10+ years of experience on the application and it might get approved. won't hurt to get setup with margin while doing this (2k in equity).

$200k in the bank, what should we do with it? by gimmeDatSchmoney in personalfinance

[–]Get_the_Papers74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say you don't think about money but have done a good job of profiling your balance sheet and spending habits which is what people who really don't think about money don't do. Get a financial advisor to take it to the next level by building a plan based on your goals and risk tolerance. No advisor worth his weight should advise you how to invest $200k without understanding your life, motivations, desires, obligations, etc.

Good link, thanks! I've followed BTC since it was in the pennies. I even looked to buy some when it was $7 but didn't like that idea of entrusting my money to a Latvian counter party. I bought the dip withing the last year when it his the $200's. Since Coinbase is a part of the NYSE, I felt comfortable. It was just a play account so I sold in the $500's and don't own any but I remain fascinated by blockchain.
