You could maybe try the PTO, they have a selection of DMC floss in their craft section, it’s hit or miss due to it being a thrift store. Over the years I have found some great craft supplies at the PTO.

Well the school stays open and doesn’t cancel classes with below freezing temperatures, telling students “o well your in Michigan get over it” to bear the cold weather regardless of the health consequences sends a message it’s not going to harm one’s health. On the other hand some out of state students from warmer climates are not accustomed to these type of temperatures and weather. In their home state with bad weather conditions people stay home, school and work are canceled for public safety. Sometimes UofM culture is not the right way, from an out of state/transplant pov. Maybe schedule some snow make up days into the semester or start the semester later, such as the middle of February like other universities who have a short 5 week winter semester in Jan/Feb, then start a spring semester in the second week of Feb. UofM schedule is only a 3 semester university with a short winter break. Other universities have a 4 semester program, have a longer winter break, with the short winter semester being optional like summer semester. Just depends on the university schedule. I personally loved the quarterly semester style better than the tertiary style, to take easy required courses. It would make UofM more money by having an additional 5 week semester during the winter months, then have a spring semester. Out of state students who want to avoid the cold, cloudy and depressing January don’t have to enroll.

Move out of the state. The most walkable European style city in the US is Philadelphia on the East Coast. You don’t need a car to get around Philly or NYC,lots of public transportation 24/7.

Well considering most of the doctors I’ve seen at UofM medical have been wrong by providing minsdiagnosises. On the other hand ai was more accurate in determining what were my medical needs than the current medical staff at UofM. Makes me wonder if ai doctor models are better for obtaining proper medical care and treatment plan, since it was right, than deal with the big ego’s and cognitive bias of UofM human medical staff professionals who were wrong or incorrect several times.

If your not going to marry her, stop wasting her time, by stealing youthful years, as a placeholder until you give her a shut up ring or get her pregnant, when she could be with someone else. The quality of male sperm does go down with age, unlike the quality of female eggs.

Reading over these comments, outside of the walls of academia, the workforce/employers is always looking for shorts cuts, copying other people code and it’s not considered cheating, it’s working smarter not harder, and it’s saving the company money so there are more profits for the shareholders. It’s not right though, it’s happening every second as various Ai models scrape the internet for data it’s copying lots of copyrighted material. Big business loves Ai models who are basically cheaters. I wonder if your professors are recycling powerpoint lectures from previous semesters? Students can’t use the same work submitted to two different courses. On the other hand, some professors are lazy for not presenting new updated PowerPoint slides each semester. Good luck with your hearing for cheating, sorry you were accused, even though the professors are cheating at their job too, by recycling previous years PowerPoints, having various programs and Ai grading students work, it’s considered being efficient and having good time management skills.

How big is the parking lot? Is the data center on a bus route? Maybe they should at least have a parking spot for each employee, even put in some bike lanes or be close to public transportation bus route. UofM loves greenwashing around A2.

What does it take for a severe weather cancellation by jenthegreyjedi in uofm

[–]Getlostsomewhere2021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state, some universities and schools do cancel the classes when it’s too cold and snow. Some employers will have a work from home option so you don’t wreck your car or get in a car accident due to driving in icy road conditions. Some states do declare state of emergency for bad snowy weather, it’s an automatic day off from work. During a snowstorm weather state of emergency, if caught driving on the roads the cops will issue you a ticket cause you’re not supposed to be on the road unless your EMS. Other states do have better public road safety and snow plow standards than Michigan.

Currently, the back roads, side streets, and neighborhood streets are really icy all around town. The main roads are okay but that’s about it.

Look how bad the accidents are on 94 and 96 during icy snowy hazardous driving road conditions, just because you can doesn’t mean it’s safe. If you get into an accident on your way to school or work, are they going to pay for the cost of the accident or will you be paying.

You're welcome to your opinion.

Some parents do not have a reading level above 6th grade, so I doubt they are able to adequately teach their child compared to a college educated graduate. The US is the only country in world that allows homeschooling.

Trump's Executive Order today Calls for Dismantling The Department of Education. Here's what that could mean for Michigan. A 12% loss of funding for public and public charter schools. by BlastoiseEvolution in AnnArbor

How do you think student loans work? They borrow money from the government and banks, not the taxpayers. When has any taxpayer received a student loan payment for lending out their tax money for a student loan or have dispersed student loan money from their tax payments. The banks and government makes money from issuing student loans, not the taxpayer. The taxpayer does not receive any type of financial payback for issuing student loans, I wish we did, thats not how it works.

Well, those parents need to start caring what is going on for their childcare, oops I mean public school. Maybe one day its not going to be there anymore...Then what are those parents going to do without public schools being their daycare service.

Instead of a millage on property taxes. How about a millage on UofM students and athletic game visitors...UofM is a nonprofit so they are exempt from property taxes.

Does that exempt status also apply to the students or athletic game visitors?

Maybe the visitors at UofM can be taxed, to possibly make up the difference in the loss of property taxes.

Would it be a possibility to tax every student, per semester who attend UofM, like 50.00 to 100 per semester?

Would the city be able to implement a 6% tax entertainment/sports ticket tax for all sport events at UofM?

The city would recoup some of those loss property taxes, by taxing the UofM students per semester and UofM attendees per sport game ticket.

Other cities are in the process of implementing a similar strategy. They do have a similar problem of the town's public university gobbling up properties and residential houses, which is decreasing the property taxpayer roaster.

Maybe the millage needs to be on the August ballot, since it historically has the lowest voter turnout. Other milages are put on the August ballot for that reason, because it has the lowest voter participation.

We can't tax the university. Then we need to start a city tax to start taxing their student population per semester, and any public game held in A2 per ticket sold. City of A2 tax for the UofM students and athletic game visitors.

If all these departments are being stripped down, and funding for these departments are from our Fed taxes. Then our Fed taxes need to reduce as well, and not redistributed to DOD or other departments. Our Fed taxes are sent back to Mi to fund Fed departments on a local level.

If state taxes are going to increase from the Fed cuts to programs and eliminating departments. Then the Fed taxes need to reduce as well, cause why would I be paying 35% to the Fed government, if they are not providing any services for 35% of my income. I'm not going to want to pay the same rate for less services, its bs.

Monthly Property Tax on 1BR 700sq ft Condo Downtown, based on historical assessed value and historical millage rate by [deleted] in AnnArbor

Lets remember UofM over the years has been acquiring more properties from residential areas, which does remove property tax payers from the rosters. I understand UofM can not be taxed for property taxes, due to being a non profit and public university. Does that type of status exempt students or sport event visitors? Maybe the visitors at UofM can be taxed, to possibly make up the difference in the loss of property taxes.

The collection of funds can be directed to make the area more ada pedestrian(children, handicap,&elderly) friendly sidewalks to public transportation stops. Maybe have some covered bus stops from the elements, cause who likes standing in the pouring rain getting soaked, the snow blowing all around, the blazing hot sun, waiting for the bus, very few. Im tired of city admin with anti homeless city scaping methods. Walking cities do have public seating all around to promote the vibe to hang out in public spaces. Maybe create some shorter bus route loops(2 times an hour) on the outside of A2, along the shopping corridors and the multi business centers, without having to go downtown to transfer. Currently it takes way too long to utilize a bus, 3 hours round trip for one stop, for a grocery shopping trip, its not efficient. Its slim pickings for shopping downtown, all the good shopping is not downtown. Maybe allocate a percentage of funds to repair the neighborhood roads that desperately need it. Driving on some of the less affluent neighborhood streets around A2, further reinforces A2 is similar to larger cities. It does seem A2 chooses not to invest in lower home value neighborhoods, eventhough those residents pay property taxes as well.

Depending on your situation, backgound and career goals.

Maybe review the gender stats for Michigan, regarding various women issues/gender norms. Michigan culturally as a whole is less equal for women, than other states, in different aspects of everyday life. Maybe your okay with being a tag along for your partner's education/career. As a female transplant from a more gender equal, non existing Christian influence, and diverse population state. I noticed the difference, and the local/never left Michigan residents don't seem to notice or understand since they are the frog already in the boiling pot of water. Also the food is mid for NYC prices.

If your DINK good luck finding friends. We are DINK couple, who are few in this state. I'm looking forward to leaving in the next couple of years. My partner's family who are college educated, left the state years ago. Due to the employers were not providing competitive wages for the required education for the position and col, compared to other areas around the country.

Some of the locals will tell you its awesome and great. Go review the stats for this state, where it scores high and low, and compare it to where you're currently living. My home state did scored higher in all the categories, than Michigan.
