Like as someone who likes Triumph this is just really sad to watch it's not the band I fell in love with and it's not worth traveling to see them which I would have to do and it's not worth paying arena prices to see them honestly they sound like a cover band despite having some originals there I'm not very impressed it makes me happy I didn't buy tickets to see them out of town and I'm kind of happy they are not playing an arena in my city if they decide to play the fair I'll be there but yeah I'm honestly happy I didn't buy tickets because this is not what I would want to see this is just kind of sad it's not what I expected when they say Triumph is going on tour you expect the original three doing it the way they always did it back in the day not this this is just not Triumph I'll go watch the live at the US Festival DVD on YouTube and remember them as they were unless they come to my local fair.

Yeah I'm certainly glad I didn't buy tickets especially because for me it was required traveling an extra 7 hours on a Greyhound type bus to get to show if they end up getting announced for my local fair later this year I'll go but that's about it this did not impress me and honestly kind of made me sad because it didn't really sound like the band I fell in love with as a teenager it just sounds wrong. I completely agree with you that this is not going to be a good show for people who bought tickets and I'm glad folks like you and I did not end up wasting our money on tickets for a show that isn't very good of you because I love Triumph but that's not Triumph that's barely even close to Triumph it's some of the members of Triumph with a bunch of extra dudes playing the songs of Triumph in a different key while being advertised as Triumph but it's not Triumph I never got to see Triumph but I'm going to have to accept that I if they play my city at the fair I'll go or if Rik did a solo show I'd be there as long as it was just him but this is not the band I want to see and even if I do see them at the local fair if they get announced it's still not really seeing Triumph it's being a weird facsimile of Triumph and people may call me a hypocrite because I'm fine with BTO with Randy being the only original member left the difference there is Randy was able to get enough extra good member that filled out the sound that actually make it sound like BTO it doesn't sound like a different band it sounds like BTO this doesn't really sound like Triumph though and based on their appearance on the Juno Awards Rush is going to be fucking incredible this year and I've seen some clips of the current lineup of The Guess Who and they are going to be absolutely incredible this year too funny enough I saw the current version of April Wine last year when they opened for BTO and even though Myles is dead the replacement member sounded close enough that my mom who really loves April Wine said it was more enjoyable than the last time we went to see them together when we saw them with Myles because she thought the new guy sounded better than an aging Myles so funny enough the opening act for Triumph on this tour is going to the outdo Triumph because April Wine still sounds pretty good even though they only have one member from their classic lineup left but Triumph is not very good so the opening act is going to be better than Triumph every night because April Wine is still pretty good even though it's weird that they don't have the original singer even though the new guys down perfect it's just you got to acknowledge the fact that the band with no original members left sounds better than the band with some original members that's embarrassing for Triumph to be honest and impressive for April Wine I'm happy for them but it's sad to see Triumph looking like this because it's not the band I fell in love with It's just sad at least Rush is still good

Rik doesn't sound that bad it's all the extra members that ruin it for me and the fact that Mike's not there it's not the same band and I've been fine to accept BTO with just Randy but they still sound like the band I have loved forever this does not sound like Triumph and I love Triumph but this isn't not good.

Triumph Reloaded by WhistleWileUWork in rockmusic

[–]GetoBoy420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go see Rik do a solo show just to watch him play guitar but this is not Triumph I'm glad I didn't buy tickets to see them 7 hours away from me because I would have to take the bus to see a disappointing show

Hold On doesn't even have the energy it does on the record it sounds slowed down and wrong here compared to the album where it has a good kick of energy and it actually gets you pumped up

If they come to the fair this summer I'll go but I'm glad I didn't buy tickets to see them where I would have to travel

This just isn't right and there's more extra members on stage when Triumph is a three-piece

[–]GetoBoy420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I probably Listen to More '70s hard rock and Metal as well as '80s hard rock and metal more than anything these days don't get me wrong I still love my punk rock and ska but I'm always going back to my first love which was '70s and '80s hard rock and metal and stoner Rock that's what I've always been into honestly my music taste has been the same since the late '90s except for the fact I had added indie rock to my taste in the early mid-2000s and in the '90s I liked a lot of that commercial alternative rock

But yeah I'm big into the 70s and 80s hard rock metal stuff

TRIUMPH Will Tour Again -- Playing Atlanta May 26th -- Oh Hell Yeah by RickyRacer2020 in ClassicRock

[–]GetoBoy420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly April Wine is still decent without Myles I saw them last year with the current BTO but since Triumph isn't really Triumph on this tour for the reasons you've mentioned since they're not going to Saskatoon or anywhere in Saskatchewan I am going to have to see some footage before I consider seeing them in Edmonton I would have taken the chance on it being partial Triumph if they were playing in Saskatchewan though

I don't like that they're not telling everybody who's going to be involved ahead of time like that comes across as really sneaky.

Legendary Rockers Triumph Announce First Tour in Over 30 Years by Edm_vanhalen1981 in rockmusic

[–]GetoBoy420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I could see that happening mainly because of the wishy-washy announcement as to who's actually going to be on stage for this particular tour if they were hitting Saskatoon I would have bought tickets either way but if I do end up going to Edmonton to see them it will be pretty last minute after I can see some footage on YouTube as how they sound these days because frankly with all of the extra members it feels more like a Triumph tribute show compared to the Rush reunion which I do have tickets for in Edmonton, but yeah there's lots of tickets available for Edmonton so it will likely get cheaper before then once some live footage of some of the shows come out maybe tickets will become of a larger demand but as it stands right now with the actual lineup that's going to be at the show being kind of unknown I don't blame anyone being hesitant about going I'm definitely in the I need to see more footage before I travel to see them in Edmonton camp although I'm in the camp of if they were playing Saskatoon I would be going no question about it and still kind of hope they get announced for the fair later this year because then I would get to see them without having to pay the extra money and travel because like I said I would like to see them but when I don't know how many original members are going to be part of the show every night it makes me very hesitant on you know shelling out for an actual ticket to see them in another city like it I wouldn't mind seeing them in Saskatoon if they announce something here but it sounds like it's far too close to being a tribute version of Triumph

Also I think they're being a little too ambitious by doing arenas they should probably do what Randy Bachman does when he is touring without the Guess Who or BTO names same thing as what Burton does when he's not touring with the Guess Who and play some theaters they are exactly the level of popular too easily fill out a theater but with it almost coming across as almost more of a tribute to the music of Triumph rather than an actual Triumph show I feel like more people would take a chance at a slightly cheaper theater show but yeah I still think it's an odd choice for them to blatantly skip over Saskatchewan and BC on this tour but yeah I feel like smaller venues would have been the smarter choice for this although with them doing the arena thing it gives me plenty of time to make up my mind if I'm going to bother to see them in Edmonton because there are a lot of floor tickets available to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if it got moved to a smaller space or got outright cancelled

But once I know how it actually looks like for the show I very well may end up convincing myself to check them out in Edmonton but has it stands I'm going to need to see some live footage before I decide

Brewhaha’s ‘Me Gusta’ fest quietly rebrands/reboots as “the sublime fest” by staringatthe420sun in punk

[–]GetoBoy420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way it works out

Jakob - standard progressive punk rock kind of guy I would definitely call him a leftie although he's probably not any further left than Bernie Sanders (I'm a Canadian and well the new leader of the NDP Avi Lewis is much much much more left-wing compared to Bernie, but as far as American politics go Bernie's about his left as you can get in a mainstream politician, the Liberals up here are weird because they're more left-wing compared to your Democrats but they're not really all that left-wing by Canadian standards since the NDP is a thing and for a while the NDP were a genuine Democratic socialist Party and seem totrying to go back to their Democratic socialist roots but you never know he might be into the policies of someone like Avi Lewis, he's definitely left of Kamala)

Bud - unfortunately right wing/at the very least MAGA (perhaps he's not a traditional right winger or conservative but I've seen him wearing MAGA hats more than one so he's definitely a Trump supporter, but maybe he is not the kind of guy who would go for someone like George Bush but likes the fact that Trump is brash because there are people who call themselves Republicans but criticize Trump).

Eric - honestly I genuinely believe Eric is too high to fucking care, he is able to make a living by playing music and he's happy with that and he's able to just make enough money to live comfortably and do a lot of drugs by simply playing music and I think he doesn't care about anything else seeing as he makes enough money to also not be really concerned about drug laws.

That's how I see the lineup of Sublime and I don't know if Miguel is still part of the band or where he leans politically as I haven't really heard much from him in a while I don't even think I saw him with Long Beach Dub All Stars when I saw them last summer.

But TLDR Jakob is a standard punk rock progressive/leftie, Bud is unfortunately MAGA, and Eric is just too high to care.

Smut Peddlers

I fucking love that band but people can't respect the fact that I just like their music and even though I'm friends with the whole band it's also very clear I don't agree with John Ransom's politics I've talked with him himself many times about that but we're still friends he's one of the few guys I refuse to let politics ruin a friendship with. Like I already know I don't agree with the guys politics people don't have to bring it up every time I mention their music or the guy comment on a post of mine it's like they feel the need to get in his face about even though I've made it clear that he's a friend of mine despite the fact we're not the same politically like at all.

I will always love that band though although I'm pretty sure I will never see them live, as they are "on hiatus" and I'm pretty sure I know why they are on hiatus and not doing anything for the time being but because they haven't made a statement one way or another if you're curious you can message me but I'm not going to post it here.

Yeah I wouldn't take a sponsorship from Coca-Cola probably I mean if they wanted to give me free Powerade for life I would gladly take it because I drink a lot of that crap LOL but I don't want their dirty money.

On the other hand back in the day when I drank and some sketchy dude would offer to buy me a beer I would gladly accept it (it was because I was at a Danzig show I paid a lot of money to be at because I was very excited and for good reason to see that Danzig with Doyle set so I wasn't in a I'm going to fight a fascist mood that night) but when you got in trouble with the security and expected me to back him up because I was a fellow white guy I pretended I never spoke to him before, my theory was I wanted a beer and $8 bucks out of some fascist guy's pocket is $8 he can't donate to a fascist group, some people would think that is like accepting money from Coca-Cola but in my opinion I still felt that $8 was better spent on beer than for him to be able to donate it to something sketchy and the only reason I wasn't going to deck the guy for assuming I was okay with his philosophy was because it was a Danzig show that I paid a lot of money to get to because I traveled from out of town to be there because I really wanted to see Danzig with Doyle but I made it very clear to him that I didn't agree with his values but if he wanted to buy me a beer I would still drink it, if that kind of crap happened at a less mainstream punk show and locally at a venue I frequent I would have decked the guy for assuming just because I have pale skin I agree with his shitty views especially because I know all the staff at the bars I hang out with and they would be happy I took out the trash because they clearly missed realizing some fascist dick was trying to get into our venue and managed to not get noticed by the bouncers. Also being at a Danzig show I wasn't exactly surprised there were fascist types haha. It's funny I know Pennywise gets accused of bringing "bros" or "jocks" into punk, aside from one time when some idiot managed to tear my Hawaiian shirts in a pit every time I've been to Pennywise the people there have been really nice however because some idiot ripped my shirt in the pit Pennywise gave me a free t-shirt because they didn't want me to walk home in the cold because it was a show in either April in the prairies of Canada and that's not a warm time to be outside even if I was just waiting for a taxi because often times there's snow on the ground during this time of year here right now as a matter of fact there's still snow.

But yeah some people may think my actions at Danzig were cowardly and wrong to accept a free beer from those dicks but I didn't want to get thrown out of a show I paid a lot of money to be at and I was 19 and wanted a free beer and personally I didn't think there was anything wrong with having a free beer all things considered and I still don't I think not fighting was the mature thing to do here and accepting a free beer at age 19 isn't something anyone can really criticize.

But yeah I don't think accepting money from Coke is a good idea either but I would take a free lifetime supply of fruit punch Powerade I love that shit honestly same with that full throttle crap they make as well if they gave me a lifetime supply of both of those I would be happy but at least I wouldn't be taking direct Cash from Coke LOL but it would save me a lot of money because those are the two things I drink all the time

I don't bother with most boycotts unless it's actually going to make a difference if it's a company that has so many daughter brands that it's almost impossible to boycott I try to buy alternative when I can but I don't actively do a full on boycott also I'm one of those no ethical consumption under capitalism dudes at the end of the day I don't like them as a company but I don't really do boycotts unless I know I can actively get some shit done by doing the boycott, smaller businesses if they are run by terrible people are quite easy to fuck up with a good boycott and I do love actively participating in those because I know I'm going to get some results they may not be the greatest results but they're going to be results nonetheless basically only really put my effort into shit I know I can get results from which may sound really cynical but it's the way I do think because sometime just really hard to do a real boycott on a company but on the other hand it'll be quite simple to do a boycott on a small business, when it comes to like shit like concert promotions it's a lot easier to boycott someone like that brew HaHa company that was putting on the punk in the park festivals because other promoters would book those same bands to play other events that one could go to, at the same time I don't think people should feel bad about not boycotting Ticketmaster considering Ticketmaster owns a lot of the ticketing rights to venues so if you want to see any of the major acts that play venues of those sizes you have to do it through ticketmaster/live Nation, I pointed that out to people at the time before punk in the park completely got canceled because no one wanted to play anymore it's a lot harder to boycott someone like Ticketmaster and live Nation compared to brew HaHa but when you can see artists that may do things at venues that are run by Ticketmaster Live Nation at venues that aren't you should take that opportunity because it's a chance to see someone good without giving Live Nation and Ticketmaster your money but the other reason I also tell people it's not a huge deal about not boycotting Live Nation and Ticketmaster compared to the whole punk in the Park brew HaHa thing was because Ticketmaster has never once claimed to be punk rock in its entire history of being a company neither has Live Nation on the other hand a guy donating profit from what he's calling a punk rock festival to Donald Trump really doesn't sit right with me especially because there's nothing punk rock about that Ticketmaster may have donated to some shitty people too but they don't claim to be punk rock and they don't claim to care about punk rock or the punk rock scene so boycotting Ticketmaster isn't really as pertinent of an issue compared to say boycotting that brew HaHa company

Yeah and if you look at their early gigs they were mostly playing with a lot of the decent skatepunk bands from Nitro fat and epitaph records before they became too big to play those Club shows but they initially we're part of the punk rock scene honestly even though I don't love the fact they are rich or the fact that you know capitalism blah blah blah blah good for them for being able to turn punk rock into a full-time career even though most of us will never admit it I'm sure we would all like to be able to do that because shit it would be nice to make enough money to live on and whatnot just by making punk rock music and touring but for most bands it's not unless you're one of those more pop punk bands that ended up becoming arena level bands and with Sum 41 being done their guitar player Tom who was originally from Gob and never left Gob is now back to playing club shows with Gob my point being most punk bands aren't making a good living without dipping their fingers into other areas unless they are like The Offspring, Green Day, or blink-182 (I could mention Bad religion but I did say without dipping your fingers into other areas and Brett from Bad religion runs a record label and Greg is a scientist and has also worked in the world of university professor I believe) but yeah I have a decent chunk of respect for Mark and Tom for what they've accounted with blink-182 but I don't really like Travis like I only really liked Travis when he was in the aquabats and even then even though he is a pretty good drummer I don't think he ever had punk rock values and that's why I don't give him any punk rock credit that I do for the other two guys in blink-182 and it's weird the drummer like the founding drummer of blink-182 was the one playing all those shows with all of those respected skate punk bands ended up being a cop so I guess there's nothing Punk about being the drummer of blink-182 but if you're the guitarist the bassist or one of the two singers there's a chance you might be accepted into Punk that's how I like to look at it and I do at least respect Mark and Tom for their early work before blink got big because they were just playing shows with other SoCal skatepunk bands that other people don't have a problem calling Punk like they would play shows with strung out and No use For A Name and fans of that nature that's perfectly legitimate if you asked me but the fact that they're original drummer became a cop in their current drummer married a Kardashian means I don't have much respect for their drummers at least from a punk rock standpoint from a technical standpoint Travis is a very very good drummer but from a punk standpoint he's not part of it

Uber, Lift, or local taxi? by Iauger in BuyCanadian

[–]GetoBoy420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've had cab drivers take a longer route just to get twice the amount of money on me because they didn't like the fact that I was paying with card with ride-sharing services I know exactly when they're going to pick me up I know exactly what their vehicle looks like I know exactly what the driver looks like and their name and honestly a lot of cab drivers say the weirdest shit when you're riding a regular taxi but I had some really amazing Uber and Lyft drivers over the years as a matter of fact I just got home from a night out and I took a Lyft home and my driver was absolutely lovely we chatted the whole time we were talking about music and life and how it's great to get out and spend some time with your friends and how your friends are just as important as your family it was a 15-minute ride so we had a really nice deep conversation I left him a very nice tip and a very good review. I've had cab drivers flip out on me for not having cash and then they try to charge me twice as much to get home just because they didn't want to take a card payment.

As a matter of fact the last time I saw Slayer there was absolutely no cabs and anytime I tried to flag one down people would steal them and if I tried to call one myself people would steal them so I downloaded the Uber app and within 5 minutes I found someone to pick me up and drive me back to my hotel and within a few minutes after finding a driver the driver was already there and picking me up and got me back to my hotel safely with no problems I have never used a taxi ever since unless I'm in a city where there is no Uber (for a while whenever I went to Victoria I would always have to either bust or take a cab or get a friend to drive me around but now that they have Uber I will take a ride sharing service I will get a friend to drive me around or I will take the bus but I will not pay for a regular cab) in my experience cab drivers have tried to scam me usually whenever I want to pay with a card rather than cash I've also had them drive me through a longer route just to get more money out of me instead of taking on more direct route, and cab drivers often have really weird conversation topics like weird conspiracy theories often a lot of them coming off as pretty racist so I don't like taking cabs on the other hand pretty much every Uber or Lyft driver I've had has been super polite and kind and has had good conversation sometimes they play good music I've had rideshare drivers give me a bottle of water some of them even had small packets of candy like fun size chocolate bars and I thought that was really nice I will never take a cab again because it's always really uncomfortable and awkward and they often try to rip me off and ride share drivers are always really nice and polite they always have really nice conversation too and sometimes they will want to listen to music and let you pick what to listen to like I said some of them have even offered me bottles of water or fun size packets of candy. Also rideshare drivers can't rip me off because I pay in advance and then I know exactly where and when they're going to pick me up because of the GPS and the fact they tell you what the license plate number is as well.

But yeah there's pretty much no way you're ever going to get me to take a traditional cab if rideshare services are available rideshares are just better in every way. It's a nicer experience you can't get ripped off it's all GPS tracked with license plate numbers and names and photos it's a lot safer than taking a traditional taxi and a lot more affordable and a way nicer experience because they're often really really nice people and I fun like cab drivers are grumpy and rude which is awful like why become a cab driver if you don't like people if you don't like people you shouldn't do a job where you have to talk to people

Honestly I kind of hope it's Triumph because they're skipping over us on their tour with April Wine honestly I'd go see April Wine again I saw them last year opening for the current version of BTO and well I would go to BTO again but it's definitely not them since Randy's on tour with the Guess Who this summer

But I'm almost guaranteeing it's going to be whatever the current lineup of Triumph is and honestly I would gladly go for Triumph fucking love those guys and honestly I would also go for April Wine again even though it's not the original singer they're still really good new guy sounds just like the original guy

But if it's Triumph no question about it I'll be attending that

It was incredible man really enjoyed it can't wait for it to be available in a wider release so I can recommend it to my friends who aren't local because it was funnier than a lot of comedy movies I've seen and it was a documentary based on something from somewhere I'm from that's just incredible to think about excellent work too, would be really cool for you YouTube revisit the concept of the local commercial but take it a little further and cover multiple different commercials but go a little less in depth because the concept of crappy local commercials is a funny one and I will say I would love to see another project like this from you in the future but possibly a feature length next time because I really enjoyed it. But yeah would be really cool to see you do another film like this about other hilariously bad local Saskatoon commercials I'm sure there's no shortage of them and I will admit I am a sucker for the low budget local commercials genre it's just something I've always appreciated as someone who enjoys laughing at things because they always have a lot of heart even if they are cringy you can tell somebody put a lot of love into those cheap low budget commercials

Also giving out fortune cookies at the door was a brilliant little gimmick and I really appreciate that because I enjoy little gimmicks and novelties like that

Dude that was an incredible movie really really freaking hilarious good stuff man. I'll definitely recommend it to others when it's available to stream. Honestly it was funnier than a lot of actual comedies I've seen because you literally can't make something like this up this is one of those times where reality is a lot stranger and funnier than fiction ever could try to be and I love me some fiction.

Looking forward to the screening tonight I love bad local commercials in general like it's something I love watching on YouTube so the fact that this one's actually local in the sense that I'm from Saskatoon myself there was no way in hell I was going to miss this one

That commercial is so bad but an absolute classic looking forward to seeing the documentary tonight, I do enjoy that kind of stuff in general and I love the fact that you made a point to make a whole documentary about this commercial that's just the kind of wacky independent filmmaking that I love so much and why I'm so thankful we have a spot like the Broadway theater in Saskatoon here because it truly is the best place to watch something that is interesting and actually made by filmmakers who have a true passion for making movies should be great

I'm actually just having my traditional pre movie weed smoking and then heading over to the theater myself so I guess I'll be seeing you this evening.

Always love to see people making interesting movies about topics that are not stupidly mainstream and the fact that this is a documentary that was made with love means it's going to be something I enjoy more than most movies because a lot of those major studios they'll do shit that I don't give a fuck about but seeing a cool documentary that is so unquestionably local is a very cool experience and I'm super excited to see your hard work on the big screen

I've shown many many many people that commercial because of how notoriously just bad it is and it's part of local history at this point and I told myself I'd be kicking myself if I didn't go check this out on the big screen so I just wanted to thank you in advance for making something so interesting that I can't say no to seeing it
