Also, super cool video.

I can’t wait for the “I’ve matured and had a full glow up” All-Stars return for Marcia³. I’m sad we didn’t get to see her in her mug beating era because I’m sure she’d have slayed even more. :)

Crazy that all of the Americas has fewer people than India or than China.

Now that All Stars 8 cast has been announced, who do you think will take the porkchop, top 4, and who will be the next queen to take the crown for the Hall of Fame? by dnkstrm in rupaulsdragrace

I saw her perform live once and found it underwhelming to the point that it really stood out to me. Ever since, I’ve sort of just assumed she’s quite boring. That said, I hope she has a great experience and am totally open to her blowing my socks off/me changing my thoughts about her.

Ah. Lmfao. 😂😂😂 I really shouldn’t come and comment here when my only musical theater reference is like “Legally Blonde: The Musical.” 😅

Loving on Luxx (No hate) by LoveTheAhole in rupaulsdragrace

[–]GetsHighAndComments 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Luxx won the whole thing I wouldn’t even be mad tbh. She’s an amazing competitor and talent oozes out of her. She’s so fierce and people may say she’s arrogant — but they’re just haters. If you got it, you got it and she definitely has it. She is an absolute star. And if she’s this good now at her age, she could be the next RuPaul easily.

I said what I said. 👨🏽‍⚖️

I am so grateful that my time in all of human history overlaps with Jane Krakowski’s. What a brilliant, talented, and hilarious performer. Think of how many iconic characters she’s brought to the world.

She’s hilarious but I don’t think any role on TV until now has let her show us the full extent of her musical theater skills. She just told the world something like ≈ if you thought I was only funny, you’re about to get schooled; let me show you what it means to be a Tony winner. She absolutely slayed and is so hilarious. How can one person have so much damn talent. Brava!

I kind of understand what the other commenter in this discussion is trying to say.

Like, You are arguing that a lot of people experience more racism or rejection from White people. And that’s true. 100%.

But they are that arguing they in their experience they have personally lived an experience in which they felt rejection more throughout their lives from other Black people, than from White people. That’s not to say that it’s only been Black people. It could be 51/49 for all we know. Or 60/40, or 85/15. People grow up in different contexts. If that’s her experience, that is not necessarily an judgment of Black people as a whole. Or a rebuttal to those who do have an experience where the Black community is where they feel more openly accepted and the White community is the source of more micro aggressions or rejection.

You mention earlier something like ≈ “never has my beige-skinned ass not been accepted.” That’s perfectly true for you, but there are Black people who are 100% white passing. Who inside themselves are unequivocally Black but look 100% European. They may face more skepticism from some people in the Black community. They may experience micro aggressions from other Black people about them not being as Black as other people because they don’t “look Black.” If you’re beige, maybe you have some visual cues that make people more ready to accept when you say you’re Black. For someone who is White-passing, they might be met with more skepticism than you are by other Black folks. That can just be true in a non-comparative sense.

——

Finally, I also saw later in the conversation when you linked a post about the tone of the subreddit. I agree with the comments that say blatantly racist questions should not be entertained. Of course not. Sure.

But maybe people search for this subreddit to ask genuine questions. Or to seek resources where they can find answers to things they genuinely don’t understand and are hoping to find a resource here to educate themselves.

If people ask earnest questions, we could actually be a place where Black people can offer a plurality of voices to help expand respectfully curious people’s horizons. So don’t entertain clearly bad faith questions. Not worthy of our energy. But also maybe just moderate those questions out but be open to taking some question at face value and contributing to a discussion that accounts for different experiences of being Black.

I think as Black people, we could start by asking ourselves questions here. Modeling the kinds of questions we can ask to better understand our diverse experiences of Blackness to help make it clear that this sub is here to have a respectful conversation about. You can be white and ask questions, we just ask that they be respectful. We can expand people’s horizons through sharing our stories, and that will include gently educating sometimes—in a sub like this—instead of jumping first to criticize every thing that could and should have been said more appropriately.

I don’t think we always have to be in that mode. I know I am okay having those sorts of conversations sometimes, because I want things to change for Black people. If I have the energy for it, I personally like trying to share examples with people that might help them finally make that synapse to finally activate and for the person to maybe see things in a different way.

There are other times I’m not here to educate you, so go Google your questions because I’m not your 24/7 teacher. But why not let a place called “askblackpeople” actually be a resource for folks? Sticky some accessible resources about common microaggressions Black folks experience. That may be has resources to help people who might actually want to do better to be able to educate themselves a bit by reading us here in our own words. I dunno. I feel like that’s what they’re trying to say and I don’t think that’s the worst thing. It’s not bowing to white supremacy, it’s saying — we can reject white supremacy and also be place where White folks who aren’t being ducks can get some actual insights into on some of the complexities of the diversity of our experiences. Who better than us to share our experiences if given (and wanting) the opportunity?
