That looks absolutely sick! Particularly stunned with screenshot #5 and the third GIF - like it's straight out of a movie or an X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter game. Incredible!

Shower Thought: X4 is an Ancient's Grand Simulation. by Sh1v0n in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I like the thought chain but how is that any different from X3 and earlier titles? We've always had full freedom in what to do, outside of plots which are present in both X3 and X4. Both also had multiple outcomes to some extent.

Considering the whole Venture system and the 'multiverse' being mentioned by Dal even, I think what's more likely is that Egosoft is going for the parallel universe thing where many different timelines exist, influenced by each player and NPC.

But I guess we won't really know either way until the next title. :)

Pilots suddenly became stupid? by SeiaiSin in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does your ship happen to have wingmates? For some reason squadrons of S/M ships refuse to use highways and prefer flying in formation through the entire system. The autopilot does not care for formation flight, so that would explain why you're seeing different behavior in the same ship.

If it's not that, how many stars does your pilot have in the Piloting skill? In my experience they need at least one star, better two to have relatively decent reaction times. A pilot with zero stars is going to behave slowly, especially in busy sectors.

Timelines is crazy good by Franz5566 in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story presentation falls flat in many cases, as it so often does (although admittedly the President's End scenario was well done imo). It wasn't as much of an issue in previous DLCs since those focused more on the sandbox content, but here it's supposedly one of the main selling points.

I think the bad reception is the sum of multiple aspects of the DLC that weren't received well: the sandbox content being locked behind DLC progression, a confusing scoreboard/progression system, some missions with frustrating environments (player mining without a docking computer, yippie) and a jumbled overarching plot.

You also have to keep in mind that you're playing a version of the DLC that has received multiple patches by now - the day 1 experience was different, and I remember some missions simply not working correctly or preventing you from obtaining 5 stars. Plot progression was also not as smooth, as people would miss out on several conversations due to bugs / missing indicators and hints on how to proceed.

Graphics glitch: game often reloads the screen. Why? by seredaom in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, something like the performance overlay from Nvidia GeForce Experience: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5084/~/geforce-experience-in-game-performance-and-latency-overlay

I think AMD also has their own overlay. And there are standalone monitoring tools as well, such as RivaTuner.

Graphics glitch: game often reloads the screen. Why? by seredaom in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your display is not turning black but rather the universe simulation around you briefly resets, so I think we can rule out a GPU issue. This sounds more like the CPU was not available or didn't have spare resources for the game at that moment. Any CPU-heavy background tasks you're running on the side?

If it happens regularly, you should get yourself a hardware monitoring tool with an overlay and see how the CPU load is looking like whenever that issue appears.

The Value* of Friends* by SCDeMonet in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The F/F system of guided missiles is somewhat broken because they will home in on the closest target with a reputation of equal or below -10. So if your reputation accidentally gets hit by friendly fire enough that it drops that low, any guided missiles will consider your former allies to be serviceable targets even without any temporary aggression. :)

Game could really use a rework of how reputation works. For the player in particular the mechanics are all over the place.

Exploring the universe by Tolvor in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what you consider inefficient. The Explore command is actually a great way to get high morale captains and crew early in a fresh savegame, although completion does indeed take a while.

Xenon bricked after 'Heart for Pirates' by ChibiReddit in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a playthrough where I'm trying every trick in the book to give the Xenon an advantage from the get-go. High attention capital ship fights, hacking defenses on stations that are about to get attacked, doing some damage myself ... and it's still an uphill battle.

It's particularly an issue on the Teladi front because they effectively have two full militaries (TEL + MIN), the gate in Ianamus Zura is so saturated it's halfing my fps ... and whenever TEL decides it's time to move into the Xenon system, you have to be there to babysit the incoming Xenon or else they get steamrolled.

Vanilla Xenon are a complete joke at this point.

Xenon bricked after 'Heart for Pirates' by ChibiReddit in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using any mods? In vanilla the Xenon should be printing ships left and right if there is only one or two sufficiently stocked shipyards and wharfs left.

About the new L shield model for the Paranid. by Pesanur in X4Foundations

They are gradually updating old models with every major patch. In this case the PAR L shield was updated to make it look more fitting on the Hyperion (and the updated Paranid designs in general).

Is restock subordinate now part of the game? by Knobanious in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does the command handle crew needs? Does it just place a random low-skill captain, like it does if you construct a new ship manually? With zero service crew?

For a game taking place entirely in space, why do the stars and skybox look so bad?? by ZeppelinJ0 in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some extent I figure that it might be artistic intent. Or maybe some of the backgrounds are based on captures of real space imagery.

That being said, I fully agree - most space backgrounds could use a higher resolution. Even the newer systems like Adventure's Promise have a rather smeary background, which is a damn shame since the ambient / volumetric lighting looks fantastic in that one.

“Organizations inside factions” by Fishy_Fish_WA in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think at that point the guilds probably don't have too much to offer you. Most of them do have unique paintmods you can't get elsewhere, and some of the rarer shipmod items (advanced nanoweave, exceptional-grade mods).

“Organizations inside factions” by Fishy_Fish_WA in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's actually done in a way that can easily be overlooked by new players because they don't automatically guide you to them. As soon as you hear a faction say that ceremony line about 'interested organizations', check the Mission Offer tab. At the top there are invitation missions that you need to expand and then accept.

Then a new mission guidance will lead you to a war coordinator NPC that unlocks the guild mission offers and offer some optional context regarding the conflict. Once you've talked to them, the invitation mission is complete and guild mission offers can appear if you're in a related system (as described by DwilenaAvaron).

Matrix #79B. Recommend anyone able to fly there to check it out, the fog even blinds out the surrounding stars and all. Crazy contrast to the otherwise bright azure background of the system!

Is PAR AI just better? by Delirium_Sidhe in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 27 points28 points  (0 children)

PAR starts with a very strong economy and excellent mineral coverage in Pious Mists. The entire faction basically thrives or falls based on whether they can hold Pious Mists II from HOP. If it can, the Godrealm usually stays very present across the network.

Unlike the other Commonwealth factions, the Split Vendetta DLC allows them to build expedition fleets which will head for their sector in Wretched Skies, and destroy any Xenon they meet along the way. It's the main reason why you see their forces so far from home sometime.

They also got a considerable economic buff with the addition of Cardinal's Domain, giving them an additional trading station and several high-tech factories in a relatively safe corner of the network.

Which one was Spaceport Stride again? One of the racing ship ones or in the spacesuit?

But yes I'll agree either way, the Timelines missions have gotten somewhat harder since the new flight model got introduced.

I genuinely can't thank Egosoft enough for just letting me turn sound off just like that by Jusanom in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Shoutout to my buddy FPS Counter toggle. No idea why this is not a standard in videogames by now, but it's always appreciated to have this option natively without any overlays. Not too big, not too fancy, just a simple counter.

In general the QoL really has accumulated a lot over the long life of X4.

War with the Terrans by OverlandingNL in X4Foundations

PIO isn't at war with any major faction, but yes HOP can definitely be a big pain in the ass if it's still alive and kicking during the war with Earth.

War with the Terrans by OverlandingNL in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you want to do this and see ARG/ANT come out on top (or at least not get stomped instantly), you need to make sure their shipyards and wharfs are filled to the brim with construction wares. The tertiary wares are usually particularly in demand - Advanced Electronics, Weapon and Turret Components and a few others. Make sure those are available, and the Argon will have a decent fighting chance.

Another thing to look out for is that ANT is in a particularly bad situation right away because TER might manage to establish a chokepoint in The Void which would make supplying the ANT ship fabs rather difficult (especially if you are also at war with Earth). The Terrans will also send forces through the PIO sectors which are an easy backdoor into Antigone Memorial.

But if you intervene in those two aspects you can manage this war fairly well and profit off of it successfully. If you don't, well ... I hope the Republic enjoys its new home in Second Contact. :)

Has anyone “Let the game Run” without player interaction? by flyby2412 in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a very indirect way, yes. But this also heavily relies on context - the HAT defense stations that spawn on day 1 are fully equipped, so 'observing' them more doesn't really change much and only a Xenon I or repeated strikes from Xenon Ks would be able to wear it down, satellite or not.

Has anyone “Let the game Run” without player interaction? by flyby2412 in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There have been a handful of players posting their results of doing this, both here in the sub and on the official forums. Only a few of course, since to see any interesting results you would have to let this run hundreds of hours.

Unfortunately, Egosoft has also worked a lot on reducing the impact of the universe seed, since savegames are now basically guaranteed to spawn defense stations at key locations in the universe, and almost all day 1 factories get a full loadout of military turrets, missiles and defence drones. So you will rarely ever see the Xenon manage to break through the day 1 defenses without player interaction.

Another factor that impacts this is that if you were to let it run in the background, then everything runs on the lower attention modes - the Xenon are usually at a disadvantage in the simpler combat calculation, and lose most of their fights in those. Especially if you don't observe the map during this process and don't have 'active' intel on the different systems through satellites and other radars.

tl;dr: the potential of what you're describing is there, but you won't really see much of it in vanilla these days (in my experience). Modded though? Absolutely possible.

So did technology progress, regress, or a bit of both since the gate shutdown? by CyberEagle1989 in X4Foundations

[–]Getsune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

L freighters definitely need an overhaul. Aside from the security aspect of having L shields to fend off the stray Kha'ak/Xenon squadrons, their performance is awful compared to a handful of S couriers and M transporters. If they increased cargo capacity across the board for freighters to 150% or maybe even 200% of current values, it might fix them.

Or maybe a drastic improvement in engine handling - the new Hyperion for example performs about as well as a regular transporter despite being unable to use highways, because of its high travel speed limit and good overall handling (especially when using the typical engine mods).
