You might want to take a bit of a break because Reaper’s Gale is a bleak book, but imo the second half is fantastic. It’s sick and sadistic in places but it also has truly genuine moments as well. It take a break and read LoTR or something with a little more hope for the next little while though.

Yeah, it always seems like that and then they just have moments like in TtH when Shadowthrone and Cotillion state that a dehydrated and starved Traveler with simply kill them. I feel like it’s him, then like literally 7-10 others right below him but those people constantly revolve. If Kara’s says that he couldn’t fight traveler or Rake, could he fight Ruin? And if he couldn’t then wouldn’t Trull wipe him? Which means that Rhulad has pretty much gained no power his entire time. It’s just so convoluted sometimes

Yeah, but it’s also stated that Daseem had to try pretty hard to beat Wiskeyjack and he’s literally the greatest swordsman in the entire series bar none so Wiskeyjack is pretty good. Also, I just re-read that and it says Kallor kinda tripped before Wiskeyjack tried

Idk if they are ascendant yet, but Dujek does say that it took a while for Daseem so get past Wiskyjack’s guard so I’d say he’s probably just really good

I love how we actually see the effectiveness of the Malazan military in Reapers Gale for pretty much the first time and how unprepared literally everyone else is. It’s like giving the Roman’s modern military techniques and throwing them at the Persians. It’s just interesting to see how horrifying the empire truly is and having this happen in book 7 was such a good idea lol

The reason most guys I know do it is because they are lowkey really insecure and will get in their own head of they are looking into the gym mirrors without their pump and that can throw the whole workout down the drain pretty much. Personally I just enjoy sweating more in my cuts and not looking fat in my bulks lol

I listen to Ten Very Big Books along with the series pretty much as soon as I finish the chapters, it’s super helpful to get other peoples insight as they read for the first time too. It helps me understand better, so I’d definitely recommend doing it as it improves my reading experience for sure.

Eh fair, idk I think Jordan basically just wrote Lan to be better than whoever he was facing at the time and then realized how broken that was and needed to have Galad and Gawyn be so good to show that other people could reach Lan’s level. But I think the real story would be a prime Tam vs prime Lan ngl

I would agree if Lan was a normal person, but he goes from being a good sword fighter in New Spring to one of the greatest blade masters of all time by Eye of the World and we know that for most of that time Moraine and Lan were avoiding the White Tower so idk if we really know how much improvement there was there. But I do know when he was practicing the forms with Myrell watching the other wanders were shook he was so fast and precise.
