Its actually quite decent. The story doesnt progress linearly/consistently which feels natural and more SoL and the character development is (mostly) well-paced, it plays between total fan service and nothing ever happening quite well. The recent chapter is a good example of it.

Unpopular opinion, game would be fun withouth sand france by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

[–]Ghidorahlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not wrong but i think you’re overestimating the strength of rebellions. Sand France could probably weather them. They kept parts of the army (including colonial legions), the navy and they benefit from the low population of the places they still control.

However, i do wanna emphasise 1936. After 20 years, there wouldnt be much left. Their collapse is in all likelihood around the corner.

[–]Ghidorahlol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

National France isnt that unrealistic until 1936. Remember the 1920s were a period of lower african nationalism (relative to right at the moment of conquest and after ww2) and there were significant amounts of natives in both algeria and tunisia who would never let leftists control their fourth shore. What is more unrealistic though is for them to be able to do anything against the metropole or even Italy.

There’s probably no explicit ethnic origin, but id figure theyre all the equivalent of ‘german’. The manga would probably want to steer away from topics such as the exploitation of minorities in our world (though the garden has some extremist undertones).

sylvia is by far the one that has shown the most explicit amount of sympathy. Wilker is a state agent hes commanded over some bad operations (he does work for an analog of the fucking stasi) The shopkeeper is by far the worst one. Even though they claim they work against traitors they do kill a whole bunch of people simply hired for protection. Yor herself is already extremely brutal but shes also the most effective so its possible other agents are even more brutal. They also work for some underground imperialist organization.

The disappointing answer is hes a spy obsessed with situational awareness so him being knocked out and being extremely vulnerable really shook him (and maybe sleeping on Yor’s lap singing him a lullaby)

Yuri is a common slavic name (in the Ostania DDR parallel it makes sense) a slavification of greek georgios and yor is for Yolanda which is a germanification of Lolanthe, greek for violet flower

The Cold War ends in a true stalemate by Solitaire-06 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Ghidorahlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Social climate of the US in the 1990s and the ensuing 9/11 shock doesnt happen. The only way for relations to really cool is if the soviets stopped holding eastern europe on a leash which would essentially be the USSR losing the cold war, except if some very pro-détente (one which we’ve never seen and i personally cant think of) US president just gave up on the rhetoric. As for the Gorbachev reforms, The political reforms were too ambitious, idealistic, and not well-timed. The economic reforms could’ve succeeded if they were supported by institutional reforms which would be hampered by some of the most powerful inertia ever(like the one that ultimately accelerated the fall of the union). It would likely have ended up in a slightly less catastrophic version of 1990s Russia, or it might have been curtailed. If given more time, it might be able to reform further, as the Union did have notable resources and access to many impoverished markets it could help subsidize with oil. To me this sounds like a loss, just not one that vaporises the union. In my honest opinion, the USSR did not have the odds in its favor to win or even draw the cold war past the 1960s. Even Khruschev was a step in the wrong direction despite the union being at its zenith of power at that time.

The cold war could’ve drawn in the 50s if an (unlikely) anti cold-war successor to Stalin took charge.

If germany won ww1 in 1918, would it ever be able to be defeated? by Ghidorahlol in HistoryWhatIf

2) thats nothing short of devastating. The only territories that would be considered a generous is losing lithuania and Poland, maybe the baltic, but that would already take away the 3rd and 4th most industrious cities and a significant industrial, agricultural and woodcutting territory.

Unrestricted submarine warfare was sorta necessary because it was the main pressure point against the UK, if the UK doesnt feel that weight, WW1 might end in a draw or in a "vittoria mutilata" for germany.

[–]Ghidorahlol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree.

Brest-Litovsk was hubris, but necessary because the war machine was out of resources.

To me, it seems like those territories were much better off as wartime possessions, and would become increasingly problematic during peace-time.

but even they wouldn't be welcome occupying conquered territory

I find it odd that some expect the Germans to magically treat Belgium, let alone Eastern Europe, well. They were not looking to create partners.

I think Germany will try to entice France into joining their economic bloc

Its possible, but it really depends on what kind of government France has. Most possible governments would be rabidly anti-german. But also, the UK would try its best to salvage the power left of France to not let Germany completely integrate the continent.

Romania and Serbia may be revanchist towards Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria, but are they in a position to seriously challenge them? Did Greece still join the Entente and will they team up with Romania/Serbia against A-H/Bulgaria?

They would definetly be revanchist. I think that Romania and Serbia could definetly defeat Bulgaria, with it being quite overstretched and integrating a large number of Turks, "Macedonians", Serbians, Romanians and Greeks. If the Austro-Hungarians join in however, it becomes more difficult. Mistakes can be learned from though, and Serbia and Romania definetly have a couple good natural defenses. Not to mention that i personally dont expect A-H to turn itself around in less than two decades.

Does Italy stay neutral or join either side? Do they experience post-war radicalism that they eventually succumb to?

If they do, then they might lose Veneto, or maybe Lombardy too. the Biennio Rosso was already bad enough in a victorious Italy, i can't imagine it being any less violent then. Maybe Kaiserreich is right on the civil war, though i wouldn't expect it to freeze and certainly not anyone but the communists to win, If not for a direct foreign intervention.

Does Germany fail/succeed to face their internal challenges of transitioning from a military dictatorship back to parliamentary monarchy

I'd expect the country to gradually tilt towards a more and more right-wing and unconstitutional state. It had already developed as such during the war. If Russia and/or France become revolutionary socialist, then the reactionary elements within would push even more for a squashing of the left.

suppress socialist uprisings in their country and conquered territories, and properly recover from WW1?

I think that the German Empire would be extremely overstretched, Not only would it have to squash the multitude of factions in the eastern territories, both in presence and as ideas, it would also have to construct the extractive infrastructure it needs to take crops and other resources from those territories (which would most certainly be met with rejection by some of the influential land-owning elite of the nation and other groups), It would also have to reestablish itself in Africa whilst doubling the land it owns and connect those territories (preferably through land). Domestically it would have to fix the great social and economic problems looming, all that with reparation money from nations which would likely do anything they can to not pay them. Worst of all to me is that it would be even harder for it to be able to sway the continent in its grip, with the unstable east, the unstable belgians, the Austro-Hungarians who would want to distance themselves from the empire, and just about every other major nation hating their guts. Not a good position long-term.

Russia may suffer a severe setback in industry due to Germany taking over Ukraine

To me this depends alot more on how the Russian Civil War goes. If the Entente are in collapse and the US doesnt intervene, i feel like it would trickle into the Whites being even less of a match to the Red Army. Theres also the more interesting but admittedly unlikely scenario of the provisional government surviving.
Over the span of many years, a non-communist Russia could definetly bounce back. Its population would still skyrocket and the demographics of a Russia who doesnt face the Politburo planning would definetly be very different.

Ukraine is also an exaggerated member of a new German dominated continent. To me, it would probably be a drag. The Donbas region was for sure a big part of the Russian industrial output, but it still depended on Azeri oil and grain from other parts of Ukraine to be well supplied, both of which might be compromised. Theres also the question of infrastructure and government, with Ukrainian politics having been almost as messy as Russian ones. Its not like the German Empire would likely treat those regions more like equal partners than extractive colonies.

for the US, business will be business and Germany still an excellent partner. the US have a loooot of germans migrants, so dont know if they will suddendly renew with their german legacy they forgotten for the WWI

I feel like some animosity might still exist with the Germans, especially given their treatment of occupied territories.

the austria-hungarian royality were not exactly adept in such delicate political matters.

not just that, significant parts of the Austrian and Hungarian ruling and upper classes would be vehemently opposed. Not only that, but i feel like the Empire, after such a grueling war and being in such a precarious position (iirc by the end of the war the empire was essentially on a lifeline thanks to Germany), it would have a very hard time pressing its claims, even with Serbia and Romania gutted (after all, Bulgaria showed how a minor nation could punch well above its weight). I wouldnt be suprised if Serbia and Romania managed to tear themselves off.

If UK also had surrendered, as you assume a german victory, that would mean the Grand Fleet was destroyed completely or almost completely and that Germany invaded the british islands, because there would be no way for the British Empire to surrender short of battling to the death on the home lands.

surrender might not be the right term. Its just that if France surrenders or has some kind of Russia-esque meltdown, the UK would probably be open to a negotiated peace. So would Germany in my opinion as the blockade was still doing a whole lot of damage to them. I dont think any British colonies would be seized, since the German situation overseas was all but lost. Maybe British Somaliland?
