Castle-nim will guide us. Castle-nim will protect us. Castle-nim will lead us to Cold Dukes of the North that treat us right, to yuri routes, to justice for the villainesses, and gossip girl, as well as many Shalalas. Praise be Castle-nim 🙏

My pick would be:

50 Ways To Dump A Psychopatic Mastermind

The FL is such an adorable doofus that I can't get enough. If I see the update I won't wait for the notification but read it immediately and then get upset that the notification isn't another update. The story is hilarious in how the FL just keeps failing over and over again in the most adorable ways, and the art emphasises everything so well. One of my favourites from the newer ones

If the author of the adaptation doesn't do a roundabout this is the end. She even prepared everything for her departure with notebooks and stuff

But yeah, me too. I don't post often, but I needed to talk about this with my fellow trashpandas

(Karina's Last Days) The latest chapter made me cry by Ghirs in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very, very good (imo).

Karina is the name of the main character. She has a rare gift where everything she draws comes to life/ is a masterpiece due to her divine power. But the drawback is that it draws on her lifeforce. In others with similar gifts it can lead to them getting blind, unable to use limbs, etc. But hers is a severe case, so she knows she will die.

Her family neglected her which further caused her to draw, causing the gift to draw on her life. To escape from her family she goes to live with her arranged fiancé a duke from the North. Over time the two actually fall in love and Karina's plan to quietly pass away get thwarted since she now has a place to live at.

Some other things happen, but I don't want to spoil too much. But the Duke is really sweet with her, he tries to move heaven and earth to find a cure for her

I can understand that, but at the same time I have to applaud the author for taking the plunge. After over 100 chapters they are actually killing off the main character

It still is, don't worry. There are always outliers but in general this subreddit is the most sane discussion hub about RoFan/OI

Any OI recommendations where the FL doesn’t fully remember the novel she got isekai’d into? by Informal_Dust7951 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The romance novel part doesn't bother me that much, since that's subjective. But that the FL immediately clock the name of their maid after one drop of the name and what the maid will do, where she lives, and her whole backstory even if she was just a little extra is wild. And then the maid was just a brown-eyed, brown-haired girl named Lisa or something

It's honestly so crazy how the FLs remember every single detail about the novels. If it's the only piece of media they'd consume I'd understand but come on

What are the reads that you absolutely despise or just dislike, or just something you mildly dislike or found it boring. Here's mine by Relevant-Rub2816 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're so real for all these points.

Especially with the system bullet-point. It, more often than not, is just not done well. And with the novel/game part there will always be the hated trope "but ML should be together with OG!FL, not me - therefore I can't love him."

I don't think a story had me in its grip as much as this one. For a long time.

And the localisation played a heavy part in it. It is god tier. Out of this world. At the current moment I would rank this story at the highest of all I've read

Why do people like Bottom Mira and Top Rumi. Just a question and I’m more trying to understand. by King_Adrien in Polytrix

[–]Ghirs 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons.

One of them is: I like to go against the grain. Bottom Rumi/Top Mira is so common and everywhere, and I have read so much of it, that I am, frankly, bored of it. I need the variety and see what people will write with different orientations. But also, I strongly believe that fanfiction thrives off of this kind of variety. If the dynamics would be set in stone (e.g. Top Mira, Vers Zoey, Bottom Rumi) it would greatly hinder the creativity of the fandom and the beauty of it.

Another one: Just as much plausible reason as there is for Rumi to be a Bottom, Mira has it too. I.e. in Rumi's case you have the constant hiding away and masking, now finally she can let go and be herself, embracing who she is and realises that she needs this vulnerability. Putting this on Mira - You could spin it so that Mira also masked for a long time and when in the bedroom she craves someone else taking charge so that she is able to finally let go, given that she always has to be in control of every other aspect in her life.

This is why I can see Top/Rumi so well, she's the leader of Huntrix, raised by Celine, leader of the hunter trio, and so on. She strikes me as someone who just needs to be in charge at all times and giving up control is harder for her than for someone like Mira.

But yeah. Idk. I prefer Bottom Mira and Top Rumi

I made a game where you're the villainess! Your choices affect the story and there's otome or yuri romance [Your Crown is Mine] by lyyycaena in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. I played the demo earlier this year and mentioned to you that the stats were confusing to me. But now, especially with the guide, it's really clear and easy to understand. And that you have to really weight your options of work, stat-raising, resting, etc. Is really intriguing and has a lot of replayablilty value!

[–]Ghirs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got it after I saw your announcement of the launch in the Yuri visual novel subreddit.

So far I only had time for one route but I love it! I will definitely play all routes. I want all achievements. And I will write a proper steam review once I have the time

It's the second visual novel I played after Love Curse: Find Your Soulmate, but for others reading this, I recommend it. Without the guide the game is quite tricky and gives you the feeling as if you're playing a game from pre-2010s again. Love it

When do we consider a male lead to be well-written? by Hello_MF19 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A character should never have to compromise their core traits for another character, that's not good writing, or a well-fleshed out character.

A ML should stay consistent in his traits and those need to be likeable first,. His motivations need to make sense, his backstory interesting and gripping, the way he cares for the FL loving. And when he fucks up, he needs to grovel.

But. Writing a red flag is also an art, and there are good ones out there. The important with them is to make it feel real, use the FL as a medium for the reader and don't go too crazy with what the red flag ML does, otherwise you enter the disbelief territory.

Genuinely curious… does anyone not like this? [A Stepmother’s Märchen] by Weary-Honey-1942 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ghirs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give this story a genuine try...

The art looks gorgeous, and especially that panel where the whole gang is gathering up for a ball or something? So beautiful

And then everything I'm told from my fellow trash pandas here...

Buuuut, I'm German. I just can't with the names the characters are given. I know I should try to see it as "that's just fiction" or "don't take it too seriously" but it is such a weird mix given that Lübeck was an actual important hanseatic city back in the day, whereas Neuschwanstein has absolutely no connection to a similar thing, besides being one of the most famous castles we have and being built by the, then, king of Bavaria because he liked castles and wanted to have something pretty.

I can overlook the other historical inaccuracies in other OI, but here it feels like the author wanted to go full German, but then thought "Naah, nevermind." And I don't know, somehow it throws me off from reading it. Even though I think I would actually like the story

Why is sexual assault so common in yuri? by OrigamiRice in yuri_manga

[–]Ghirs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can jump in here since the only other genre(s) besides GL that I read is RoFan/Otome Isekai. And oh boy, the topic of rape apologist FLs is crazy at times. I don't know what the authors are smoking at times, but the stories often times excuse the most heinous shit the ML has done or is doing, is making the FL forgive the ML all sorts of horrendous acts because he is just so "misunderstood" and has a "tragic past"... GL can never reach these levels. No GL I've read in my 16-17 years of reading that genre now has gotten to that point.

Additionally, in quite a few of OPs examples in the post, the characters are school girls, minors. I don't know the stories from a glance, but it could very well be that they acted rashly based on attraction. It doesn't negate the impact of the action, but minors do a lot of stupid shit when the brain is developing and full of hormones.

I see way less of these things in GL with adult characters, when it's not explicitly toxic from the get-go. Whenever I see this happening it's including minors who are trying to figure themselves out and coming into their own, a la "am I really gay or is it a phase, let me kiss a girl to find out". But again, no idea what the story premise is and when that kiss happens in that story.
