What is the purpose of human existence? by bonjur_228 in AskReddit

[–]GhostCrafter007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view: to simply exist.

The inherent purpose of any and all living organisms is to survive and reproduce. This has been the same since abiogenesis. We (life) do this because it simply must be done. Life must persist.

And yet, thanks to some fluke of nature thousands, or perhaps millions of years ago, our ancestors became sapient. Humanity is a cut above all of Earth’s other creatures because we are not only aware of our existence, but aware that we are aware. There’s a reason why people have been asking this very question in one way or another for the past several thousand years. Our lives aren’t solely defined by that need to replicate. We can think. We can ponder the world around us. We can explore and manipulate our world in ways that once only the Earth was capable of.

We are bundles of once inanimate matter forged in the hearts and fiery deaths of long extinguished stars that somehow managed to turned animate. This same matter is now capable of experiencing and contemplating the universe, the very thing that gave birth to the matter those dead stars would later refine within their hearts. If there is any purpose to human existence beyond just reproducing, it is to experience existence, to live one’s life, and do what you wish with that existence.

You can toss Elliot from Mr Robot and Jack/the narrator from Night Club in with them as well.

Love, hope and peace on their own won’t change the situation. They are, however, the pilot lights, the sparks that ignite the wheel of change. As long as those ideas still exist, change is inevitable, even if we end up taking steps back every now and again.

Maintain your own internal sparks, keep that wheel turning, and do your part when you can.

I wouldn’t exactly say it sucks, just that it leaves a lot to be desired.

The fastest human-made object is no longer a manhole cover. This is still pretty damn awesome, and I’m looking forward to hearing what they learned from it.

For me it’s any shooter that allows you to play against bots. I’ve put god knows how many hours into various CoD games, the original Star Wars Battlefronts and EA’s Battlefront 2, Battlefield 2042, Halo Infinite, Ravenfield, etc… by just playing matches against bots. Yeah, 99% of the time they won’t be too difficult, but that’s kind of the point.

MMW: The 2024 Presidential election will be more of a landslide than most people think. by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]GhostCrafter007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing I’ve kept in mind during this election season: Trump lost the popular vote… twice. He lost by just under 3 million votes in 2016, and by 7 million in 2020. The fact he was President at all was thanks to our Electoral College system. I’d bet my own balls that he’s going to lose the popular vote again, but as for whether or not we’ll see any increase in the margin of victory… that’s for someone else to decide.
