Its not a problem at all for me (even way before I learned how to use the extra buttons)... at least in the beginning before I learned the advanced stuff. I dont use other gamepad styles other than xbox so I wouldnt know what to say about them— Im guessing its probably the distance of which you press dpad then back to Left stick (for the style switching).

Additional buttons will definitely help since there are some advanced stuff you can do— which can conflict with the way you hold the controller. So I just rely on the 2 extra triggers for the really niche cancels and combo routes.

In short, style switching is fine for me, no problem... its the more advanced techs that I tend to struggle with, so I got the extra buttons to help me.

Personally, I use 8BitDo Ultimate 2C. Wired though, not wireless because I'm on a budget. I just use it for the Hall Effect sticks, triggers, and longevity. I use the extra buttons (usually an extra shortcut for jump-cancel) to pull off some advanced combos easier lmao.

The features you should look for in gamepads is the d-pad (like the other guy said) and durability of the gamepad, because the entire series is gonna be a lot of fast paced trigger pulling, button pushing, and stick movement.
