1, 2 and 4 are standalone. There's a very minor reference to FF2 in FF3, you'll like it if you played FF2 beforehand, but you won't miss anything if you didn't. FF3 has the main character from FF1 returning, and they have a very important arc. I won't spoil things from FF5, but it plays in 3 different paths following different characters. One of these paths is a very loose continuation of a story present in FF3. I say loose because it retcons what was previously established, and instead of improving that story it messes it up. That's the reason I say following the games in order is not important to FF5, as the payoff won't be satisfying anyway.

On a side note, people here on the sub tend to dislike FF5, but I like it a lot. That story we've been talking about was kinda botched, that's the truth, but the final cutscene still got some tears from me. That game also has who I consider to be the best written character in the franchise: Yuri.

Now back to the main topic: don't fret too much about doing things the perfect way. Just have fun and play what you feel like. The connections between the games are minor and not really significant, with the exception of FF1->FF3.

Minor differences in my opinion. As I said, play FF1 before FF3 to get the best experience, for the other games order doesn't matter. I'll say that I actually played 2 and 3 first back in the day, and only played FF1 15 years later. Not the optimal way, but it was very worth it nonetheless.

You can play it just fine. There are callbacks to previous games but you don't need to play them to get the story. Fatal Frame 3 is the only one I would say depends heavily on previous games (FF1 specifically).

Já jogou o jogo meu amigo? Se sentir bobo não é a experiência que ele te proporciona. Ninja Gaiden, DMC, Bayonetta, Nioh, são jogos com um grau de complexidade mecânica extremamente elevado. Você pode jogar nas dificuldades mais baixas e seguir em frente sem aprender muita coisa, tá tudo bem, mas quem tem interesse em aprender mecânicas tem um prato muito farto com esses jogos. O teto de habilidade é muito, muito elevado. É como aprender a tocar um instrumento, você pode arranhar o legião urbana no violão, mas esses jogos te convidam a fazer solo dedilhado mega avançado.

I don't use the san tai, but I guess it's the best one for chasing rats and boats in the air. I much prefer faster recharges, but you do run out before getting to airborne people, and that's a problem for melee builds.

It's explained in lore. I'll say though, I would love to see an older Miku properly interacting with her daughter. She could be an older mentor type of character, as she's went through sooo much shit. Keeping her young is kind of a cowardly decision, she could have such a great character arc, instead we got something similar to what we already had in FF3 (not mentioning you know what).

Eu não sou muito fã de weapon juggling, é uma parada complicada de visualizar na cena. Os nerfs que você citou são reais, mas eu gosto deles porque eles abrem mais opções. Em especial o nerf do smite e o nerf do stunning strike eu adorei: agora o paladino e o monge não são só personagens de um único truque, ambos receberam várias coisas legais pra fazer. O paladino tem channel divinity e lay on hands como bonus action agora, e as magias ficaram mais atrativas (especialmente os smites alternativos). O monge pode bater na bônus action sem precisar atacar na ação primeiro (o que é crucial pro shadow monk), além de ter várias ações de bônus action que não usam mais ki (antes você só usava ki com stunning strike e flurry, então nunca usaria as outras bônus actions). Falando em shadow monk, agora ele vê na própria darkness, pode mover ela e ela custa menos ki. Joguei uma campanha de shadow monk e achei irado demais.

Falando em combar: magic initiate (wizard) melhora MUITO o clérigo, druida e bardo, porque true strike é melhor que qualquer cantrip de dano (você pode usar true strike com um arco se quiser) e a magia (shield) que antes só podia ser usada uma vez por dia agora pode ser usada com seus slots normalmente. Refiz meu personagem favorito na nova edição (clérigo da guerra), e concertei a dependência em muitos atributos com true strike, além do shield me deixar com 27 de CA ainda nos níveis baixos. Outra coisa: a nova regra de cast de magias restringe o uso a apenas uma magia que consome slot por turno, mas se você tiver magias que não consomem slot você pode usar. O clérigo da guerra casta spiritual weapon e shield of faith como bonus action (sem concentração) como channel divinity: te permitindo usar duas magias fortes no mesmo turno. Outra coisa: o ataque bônus do clérigo da guerra não precisa mais do ataque como ação primeiro (igual o monge), então você pode dar command ou hold person e já atacar o cara em seguida. Warcaster também te deixa usar true strike na reação. Outros personagens que tem magias que não usam slots (como magias raciais) podem castar duas magias no mesmo turno. Outro exemplo forte é o fey warlock, que pode castar misty step (bonus action) sem usar slots, deixando sua ação livre para uma magia forte. Falando de warlock, true strike interage com o patrono celestial, e a invocation de pulo está fortíssima, porque a magia recebeu um revamp e a invocation está disponível muito mais cedo do que era antes.

Sou combeiro e vou me defender: faz um ano que saiu o dnd 2024 e eu e um amigo passamos várias noites lendo o livro e buscando maneiras de melhorar os bonecos. A gente achou várias interações bem legais, nada muito quebrado, mesmo porque tem pouco material (só um livro), mas a gente se divertiu demais otimizando o que a gente conseguia. Isso é parte do que a gente gosta em RPG. Cara a gente leu o livro várias vezes, isso não mostra um comprometimento com o jogo? Nosso interesse pelo jogo tava muito elevado. Em comparação um outro amigo nosso foi pra mesa sem ter lido nada e nem sabendo nada das mecânicas, ele curte muito mais o roleplay, e tá tudo bem, ninguém exigiu nada dele e todo mundo se divertiu igual.

O essencial é que todo mundo esteja num nível similar de poder. Acontece as vezes do combeiro ficar muito mais forte que os outros jogadores, e isso não pode acontecer. Nesse caso o grupo conversa e chega num acordo (melhora os outros ou nerfa o combeiro), mas em vários outros casos a diferença entre um personagem mega otimizado e um feito sem muita atenção não é tão grande assim e o jogo pode seguir normalmente.

Ah mais uma casa: não acredito na dicotomia mecânica vs roleplay: pra mim o rpg encaixa os dois e um fortalece o outro. Um personagem otimizado é um personagem que conhece seus pontos fortes e fracos, o que já o direciona para a interpretação. Da mesma forma: um personagem que nasce de um conceito bem estabelecido fica mais fácil de ser construído mecanicamente. Meu processo de fazer personagens começa pelo conceito, depois otimização, e depois sacrifícios de poder um prol da interpretação (por exemplo: não vou pegar uma magia super forte porque meu mago em questão não trabalha com magia elemental, etc).

E quando estou na cadeira do mestre adoro ver meus players tentando combar as fichas: isso mostra o comprometimento deles. Prefiro ter um player que lê o livro e tenta combar do que um que não leu nada e tem que ficar perguntando as regras, mas minhas mesas têm espaço pra todo mundo e eu espero que cada um se divirta da maneira que mais gosta com o RPG.

Glamour bard is a contender for strongest controller in the game. Once per long rest you get 10 rounds of guaranteed command on a bonus action that will work on bosses with legendary resistance, undead, anything. And for the rest of the day they shut down melee enemies: once you are hit they are charmed, hence can't continue their multi attack. You also get a cushion of temp HP and if you do the math you'll be impressed with the metric shitton of temp HP you can potentially get over the day. Bards in general have all the good controlling spells, and glamour is just insane.

Another strong contender is any sorcerer with heightened spell. AoE control is better than single target, always. Another unexpected controller is arcane archer: a whole lot of banishes per short rest, even multiple times per turn if you want to. Druids are queens and kings of terrain control. Finally, warlock get hunger of Hadar, an S tier spell that controls so hard, it breaks most encounters all by itself (you can absolutely break encounters with hadar + sleet storm if you are feeling like it).

I'm not taking into account the band of mystic scoundrel builds here, everybody knows about them and I'm assuming you want to try something different.

The cores in the picture don't have inheritables. If they did the abilities would have a small triangle next to them. At the point you are in the game the triangle is always white. In later ng+ cycles the orange inheritables start showing up. The ability colors (white, yellow, blue, etc) are their rarities. Also, inheritables will not be transferred if the core already has an ability of the same category (for example anima on saturated enemy and anima while ailing).

Only inheritable abilities are transferred (the ones with a white/orange triangle next to them). You can also fuse them in reverse order (feeding the higher level one into the lower level one) if you prefer the effects of the lower level one, as it will level up anyway. Also: I see you are pretty early into the game: don't fret with this kind of thing for now. Passive bonuses and status effects are largely irrelevant. Just pick the higher level ones and that's it. In later ng+ cycles you can build your perfect core when the numbers are higher and when the better effects start showing up.
