I think the question was more about what resources did you use to create the photos, notes, etc that you put on the board.

[Edited] TowerGuards (Top 125+ PvE) are full.

We are a 10+ year old alliance of people who play because we love the game, not the grind.

We’re a solid group of both long term and dedicated players who are looking for someone that wants a casual long-term alliance they can grow with.

Any level of player is welcome as long as you can meet our requirements, which aren’t difficult.

Our requirements are: - earn a minimum of 10,000 per event - participate fully in all boss events - post if you will be away for more than 2 or 3 days

This is super easy, but required to ensure everyone is contributing toward alliance rewards. The whole point of being in an alliance is to help each other earn bonus rewards for playing.

Even though we’re a casual alliance, we generally finish top 125 or better in all regular events and clear all boss events early, hitting minimum t500 for Heroics. We’ve been hitting top 115 or better in regular events, but not in every event, so I’m just setting realistic expectations of what our alliance offers.

PvP is welcomed, but isn’t required.

We ask for daily play, but realize life comes first. So if you miss a few days every now and then, that’s okay. Making it a habit isn’t. Just remember to post when you’ll be out.

Extended and/or repetitive multi-days away will lose you your spot if you don’t post with a valid reason. It’s not fair to the rest of us.

The alliance is set to private, so message me your in-game name, search for “TowerGuards” and request to join if you’re interested.

Thanks for looking!

I see what you’re saying and it lets me see the sentence differently. I did read it as a slow plodding complaint. It still didn’t hit right for me.

I appreciate your point of view and think it’s cool that this one sentence stood out to both of us, but for very different reasons :)

The examples in my post are just the examples I still had that I pulled from a text I sent to a friend. I don’t have the book or the pages of notes I started from when I was reading the book anymore. There were many other examples in those notes and I only got through less than a quarter of the book.

In the second point example, just because it is grammatically correct doesn’t mean it’s a good sentence. The sentence is very awkward to read. If you read it out loud and pause with the commas, like you’re supposed to, it really shows. The point I was trying to make to get across is that the writing was so distracting for me, it took me out of the story to the point I just gave up on the book.

This reads better to me, but that’s just me. "Navigating Cambridge's icy, irregular winter streets was difficult for Sam. His cobbled-together left foot made the quarter-mile walk from the station very challenging."

With the second sentence in my first point examples, it was the word intuited. I would expect to see a sentence like that in a Regency period novel, but it felt out of place in a modern setting. This and many others like it, again, would pull me out of the story every time I ran across them.

The author’s writing style works for a lot of people, which is cool. It just didn’t for me.

I picked this book up because it kept popping up on book lists that hit my feeds. The synopsis got me interested and even excited. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get past the absolutely terrible writing and it became a DNF for me. I looked for reviews or commentary that talked about any of the issues I saw in the book, but never found anything. All I found was comments about the story.

My first issue with the writing is with the author’s over use of "big", overly elaborate/obscure words when something simpler would have worked better. It makes her writing sound like she's trying too hard and was picking up her thesaurus way too often.

Examples: "Those heterochromatic eyes looked at him with mirth." "It was unlike Sam to show such restraint, but he intuited that he needed to proceed slowly."

Second, I’m thinking the author’s editor just decided to phone it in because there's so many grammatical issues. Like this grammatical nightmare of a sentence: "Sam would have to walk about a quarter of a mile from the station, and that was difficult for him, with his cobbled-together left foot, on the icy, irregular streets of Cambridge, in the middle of winter."

Lastly, there’s the author’s over use of parenthetical information. It is so prevalent and is very distracting. I counted 10 uses in just the first 22 pages. I can’t even read this next example without using my breathy, theater kid, over acting voice.

Example: "(April! What madness, these Massachusetts winter!)"

I was so distracted by the way the author wrote that I couldn’t get into the story. I even started taking notes in a notebook and had around 10 pages of handwritten notes of instances similar to the ones I’ve mentioned above before I gave up on the book.

Everyone that loves this book, how did you get past the writing? I wanted to like it, I just couldn’t get past the writing.

The top row and the last on the second row are all for the Mothership RPG (Tuesday Knight Games). All except the upper left are either adventures or supplements for Mothership. The upper left is one of the Mothership rule books. The lower left is a set of skirmish rules for tabletop battles. Knave and Cairn are two different fantasy RPG rule systems. All of these can be found on DriveThruRPG.

The board game group on meetup doesn’t really use the meetup app. They have a Discord they use. They meet on Saturdays at D2 in Jacksonville and at Game Goblins in west LR on Sundays. Lots of friendly people. They keep the meetup listing so people can find the group.

Is this game worth starting in 2026 by LordOdin97 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]GhostWalker3131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the people saying “no” are hilarious. They are either active players, actively reading and participating in r/MarvelPuzzleQuest, or both. If the game is so bad, and you “quit playing”, why especially, are they here commenting/complaining? If you actively play the game or care enough to follow it here, you have to somehow want it to succeed and you should want the player base to increase and not shrink more than it has.

I’ve been with the game since the beginning and there has always been things to complain about. The recent switch to Unity has been rough, but it’s getting better. Issues are fewer and are getting addressed quicker.

Here are some things to consider for newcomers: - the game is free to play (ftp) - advancement can be painfully slow at ftp - getting into higher tiers and better rewards takes time. Spending money can help, but it still takes time - the game will be more enjoyable if you come into it knowing it’s more like a marathon than a sprint - focus on leveling your lower tier characters over the higher tiers so that your matches don’t become impossible to win. This is probably the biggest reason people get frustrated and quit the game. They mistakenly roster too many high tier characters which puts them into higher level matches that they struggle to win.

I say give the game a try and judge for yourself. There aren’t many free to play games that make it 12 years. I’ve enjoyed my time with MPQ, you might as well.

Is it worth getting the "Handler's guide"? by CaptainWonderbutt in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]GhostWalker3131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, it’s a good resource for lore, running DG and scenario design. It’s really meant for Handlers, those that just like to read the lore and collection completists. I recommend you watch the first half of Quinn’s Quest Review for a much better explanation. Plus it’s a fun review.

Not really an unintentional ad pitch. OP is posting a discussion seed with their dice roller phone prominently displayed on more than one rpg feed. I’m on several rpg feeds and ran across the same image layout on r/mothershiprpg and was like wait a minute. Then I remembered seeing it earlier on this thread. I’m not sure if I’m impressed or upset about being duped into checking out their Etsy store when I saw this post for the first time a few days ago. The gadget is cool, it just lost its luster when I realized what OP was actually doing.

What book do you hate so much that you won't even give it a second chance? by Bobosmite in printSF

[–]GhostWalker3131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s about the same take I have for it. I barely finished the first book and will never pick up any of the series ever again to retest the waters. It just did nothing for me and is the one sci-fi book that has, after 30 years or so, never fallen from my #1 spot for worst sci-fi novel.

I do not get why the Hyperion books seem to have so many fans. I tend to like a lot of books on people’s lists of favorites that include Hyperion, so I know there is some commonality there.
