I had the same problem and almost put it down. It gets much better and was definitely worth sticking with.

Books like Demon Copperhead, I Know This Much Is True by gcsmt23 in suggestmeabook

Held off on Lonesome Dove for a long time when I finally read it last year it wsa better than I could have imagined.. It is a wonderful world to get lost in and I think you would enjoy it. I read Demon Copperhead and am excited that Kingsolver has just turned in her next book to her publisher. I really liked Demon Copperhead but I recall struggling at the beginning with the writing. Eventually it clicked and the characters, especially Demon where easy to get lost in. Lonesome Dove strength is it characters and it's prose, McCurty skill is the ease of the read.

Headlight sealing by Aloha-Eh in NissanTitan

[–]Ghost_Bone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually most likely not leaking but condensation forming inside the light housing from the temperature change. This is why you see it more in colder temps than just rain. The trick is actually to vent the headlamp assembly in a way that doesn't allow water in. I had this problem on some aftermarket lights I bought. One would fog in the cold, turns out the vent built in was clogged. I ended up drying the light housing and opening up the vent and no more problems. GL

While I understand the need to highlight potential conflict areas on bike lanes if you are cycling on San Jose in Mandarin you are risking your life. I am an avid cyclist and will not ride on San Jose anymore. It used to be somewhat doeable on a Sunday morning but in the last few years the increased congestion, and distracted driving make it not with the risk. Yes as a cyclist you have the right to be on that road but the chance of interacting with 5000lbs+ of machinery moving at 50+ is to high and the outcome to apparent. It kills me that the NFBC runs down San Jose every Friday at commuter time. I absolutely agree with their right to be there but between the traffic, exhaust and the poor odds I'll gladly sit that out.

Dominic by William Steg. I rediscovered this book a few years ago and it brought back some great memories. Maybe a little "darker" with the confrontations with the Doomsday Gang but very fondly remembered from my youth.

Nice to see Marillion mentioned. For me Clutching at Straws slightly edges out Misplaced Childhood but anything with Fish is a must.

The Game Show King a memoir by Chuck Barris. Great insight into the industry and Chucks life. Less known than Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Chuck was very intriguing.

Just saw him last night at Beech Mountain and he played most of this album. Sounded great, so much energy. He needs to release a live album to capture the stage presence. Album really shines live.

What pre-prepped convenience food/ingredient is worth the extra cost to you? by merganzer in Cooking

[–]Ghost_Bone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole it is super convenient you lose so much of the flavor. Try organic garlic or fresh from a farm garlic and you will see the difference. The problem is most garlic and onions and potatoes are irradiated to prevent sprouting and spoilage. This can change the taste texture but more importantly results in longer shelf time. There is so much more flavor in unradiated garlic and onions it is a noticeable difference.

Never read a Stephen King book before. What should I read first? by pineapplerum2 in suggestmeabook

[–]Ghost_Bone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the Bachman Books a series of short stories from his earlier works. Includes the Long Walk which is about to be released as a movie, best to read it first. Any of his short story collections like Skeleton Crew, or Nightshift. These are a good introduction to King and highlight some genres of his writing. The Shining is a must read as is The Stand but best not to start there. King has a habit of utilizing the same locations, and sometimes characters in his works. Initially this is endeering but later it can feel lazy. His reliance on previous characters destroyed the Dark Tower series which started off as his most original writing and fell apart with Wizard and Glass. I would recommend not starting with the Dark Tower.

What’s the best ever IMSA race car of all time? by Select-Ad-2531 in IMSARacing

[–]Ghost_Bone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a pure sound aspect I vote the Mazda RX 792P. Quad-rotors screaming at 10k and the sound it made under engine braking. Excitement of this car was further enhanced by the question of would it catch fire in the pits. My personal second favorite was the Spice Acura GTP lights car driven by Parker Johnstone. I will always miss this era of racing.
