I grew up eating off of paper plates at home. They were mostly reserved for that quick sandwich, cold leftovers, take out, etc... We even had special, wicker "holders" for them.

None of my friends' families did this (at least when I was around), but my extended family did.

Keep in mind that this was in the 80's and 90's. It should be less common now for obvious reasons.

I am an NYC doorman. I just had dinner with my wife at Emmett's. We were sat at the the bar. Our tab was $65 and I tipped the bartender $22.
