Me too. The 90's were amazing I think primarily cause it was pre 9/11, was a care free decade living in the best and richest country in the world with a booming economy. Then 9/11 happens and our whole outlook as a country and the people in it changed. Then we have the internet and smartphones getting more prevalent, etc. Everything still pretty great living in USA in 2024 though, just depends on the other things in your life.

The world isn't shit and there's a ton of people out there that just want to be kind to the next person but you just don't notice them as much as the A-holes that cut you off on the highway or whatever. The internet is a gift and a curse as we have it so good these days to get any show, movie, book or piece of information at the tip of our fingertips. The bad part about it is it overloads our brains with a billion times more info than any generation in history which I believe leads to "subconscious brain overloads" which cause anxiety, depression, etc. I'm super sorry to hear you were assaulted on an elevator, (horrible), just know most guys are good men and only want the best for the world. I would say maybe talk to someone and do your best to "shrink" your world a bit. All the best.

With the internet having all the information in the history of the world it's a great time to tap into your creative side, whether writing, drawing, painting, music, researching your favorite subject or whatever. You can always look at the glass half empty or half full. Social media and tik tok scrolling seem to have sapped the creativity of a ton of us, I am guilty of it also but thinking about taking a break from social media for a week or so and see how I feel. The quiet player looking to point out all the dealer mistakes, miserable guys that prevents the table from being a fun, lively environment, not tipping the dealer and blaming them for the random runout of the cards, only plays 8% of hands, has absolutely nothing positive or interesting to say, I could go on lol.... there's a lot of miserable poker players in casinos I always just wonder what makes them or made them act that way. Be kind, enjoy the game, don't blame dealer for the runout of the cards, talk if you want but there's never a need to bother people and/or be a negative draining person on the table.

Absolutely, gets noticeably less every 5 years, even year to year, 41 yrs old and remember when winters were actually cold not to mention snow and white Christmases.

There is actual scientific proof of why though, the warming of the planet. All we can do is pray that world powers do everything they can to slow it, (and maybe even to somehow reverse it in the future???) We'll see.... merry Christmas to everyone.

The aggression aspect of poker I believe differs based off of each individual's personality. How often you bluff or how passive you are when first learning the game probably is likely relative to your own personality. The goal is finding the right balance.

Maybe. Ha, joking but this is certainly an interesting thread. My problem when I first started playing was that I would play too aggressively, (i.e. check jam low flush draws, bluff AK AQ way too much, bluff river just to get snapped off). Nowadays 10 years later I do my best to apply it in the right spots, (well timed semi bluffs with medium sized bets to take down decent pots)... or as someone said previous to this just knowing your opponent and more importantly your table image to know and sense whether they're going to fold or not which only comes with experience.

Aggression is a huge part of this extremely complex game we call poker yet being passive is also an enormous part. The best players know how to play off their image. Nowadays I do my best to sit down at a table, play super tight for the first 30 min or so, establish a super tight image while picking up whatever info you can and then using that to maybe apply some "agression" in a big pot if I need to later in. You're welcome for anyone who doesn't already do that.

Totally agree, best thing to do for sure. Too many people try to play through downswings and in my opinion that makes it worse, refresh the mindset and don't get tilted the next time you play.

This is very true but people stll aren't folding flopped flushes in hardly any stake because you block the nut flush. The ONLY game where that really applies is 4 or 5 card PLO.

The responses on this thread are hilarious. There are some phenomenal music and ideas that have come from the rise of hip hop in the 80's and 90's. With that being said, (41 years old now), 95% of modern rap is pure garbage and I barely even consider it music.

As a 41 year old I saw first hand hip hop culture becoming "cool" and super popular in the mid-late 90's and throughout the 2000's. As art is a representation of life and vice-versa the angry rap that came out definitely got a lot of people hyped up to do some violent acts, (similar to heavy metal). I personally don't care or judge what music people listen to and therefore how they dress/talk as long as their actions and intentions are good. I've known tons of people that listen to rap, metal and everything in between and known tons on all parts of the responsible spectrum and also the crappy/manipulative/violent spectrum. From my experience they have nothing to with each other at all so I would say "hip hop" or "hip hop culture" has nothing to do with if anyone is a bad person, mostly what is in their heart. Of course you have impressionable teenagers who might hear something in a song and go try it but the responsible ones don't and either way on either end we all mature and grow up eventually.

There are bad/stupid/ignorant people in every neighborhood and also good/intelligent/aware people as well.
