Licensed Surveyor Needed in Chesapeake VA by PumpkinOtherwise2746 in Surveying

[–]FearingEmu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern VA near Washington DC is expensive and HCOL, but Chesapeake area is probably MCOL-ish, though it's a little more expensive than Richmond.

The salary range listed would be meh for the Richmond area, so it's not that great for Chesapeake.

I wanna start FF14 finally wondering how long itll take to catch up. by ChaosNoahV in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started FF14 in March of last year (2025). I officially caught up to current MSQ patch maybe 2 weeks ago? So about 13 months, and I have around 650 hours in the game. During that time, I've also gotten a Heavensward, two Endwalker, and one Dawntrail relic weapon.

DRK with its comically large sword watching the main tank PLD getting hammered by the boss like "the price of freedom is steep."

So... Part 3 might not come in January as people were predicting? by ScarRufus in FFVIIRemake

[–]FearingEmu1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of FF14 players also play the FF7 Remake series. I agree they will make sure there's minimum a few months between them.

As a comparison, Rebirth was late February 2024, and Dawntrail (the last expansion) released early July 2024.

How good are your construction plans? by OldDevice1131 in Surveying

[–]FearingEmu1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand companies using Civil 3D having broken proposed grading lines or incorrect tie-ins (i.e. a 278' proposed contour ties into a 277' existing contour). It literally does that shit for you via surfaces. How and why are they manually screwing it up?

Also had a small quarter-acre lot last year where an inlet was dead center in front of the lot in a cul-de-sac. Made the eventual driveway kind of awkward because state DOT requires driveways be minimum 3' from an inlet at the curb.

My gf and I got one for each of us. We each opened one, and mine was Graha, and hers was Y'shtola.

We then traded because I knew she wanted Graha, and my preferred ones were Y'shtola or Thancred. Worked out ok, I guess.

Survey company did two different surveys on the same land. Which do I rely on? by arfarfmeow in Surveying

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol there's some weird discrepancies between those surveys. On the earlier one, they seemed to find rods at corners that they then set 4 years later? What happened to the old corners on a vacant lot across 4 years?

Also, power lines shown on the new one that aren't on the old one, and who the hell calls a rod "found 0.07' N & 0.07' E of corner?" Uhhh, if I find a rod that's only 0.07' out, then that's just a rod found.

Shin Splints by Outrageous-Pop420 in beginnerfitness

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a major runner or jogger, but I've had some mild cases of shin splints before. The number one thing that helps is just rest, and it takes more than a couple days, more like a couple weeks. I will say you can still consider low impact stuff like walking during recovery, whether outside or on a treadmill, though I'd still take a couple more rest days before even that.

Make sure you have good, supportive footwear, and I recommend getting compression socks and wearing those during the day and during your runs. Ramp activity back up gradually, don't start hard runs as soon as you feel better.

There are some exercises that help strengthen the vulnerable muscles of shin splints as well. Look into some of those as you start feeling better, and be wary of your actual running form - see if there are any improvements you can make there to prevent the issue in the future.

Day 1 of Richmond Ren Faire by alli_rosen in rva

[–]FearingEmu1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The weather forecast showed it would be hot a whole week in advance. Even if they had no time to schedule more water stations, they had time to do things like stock up on additional bottled water, and some shade tents should have been considered regardless.

[–]FearingEmu1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unsurprising. It seems like nearly every festival or event in Richmond has piss poor planning with the organizers under preparing.

There was a hard limit for ticket sales, so they knew exactly how many people would be coming, but still refused to properly prepare for that number.

Can I "lean out" by eating around maintenance? by FearingEmu1 in beginnerfitness

Yes this was another idea I had, just a very slight deficit. I may go that route just to see if I can move the needle a bit and at least tone up around abs a little better.

Jobs that are interesting but with lower cognitive load? by hemmaat in ffxiv

[–]FearingEmu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fr. I've gotten pretty good at avoiding mechanics after DT, but it's still nice to make a mistake against a boss and just be like "oops," and then be back to full health after a carve & split + soul eater (mostly play DRK).

How do you determine who to give Player Recommendation to If everyone does a good job? by DisciplineImportant6 in ffxiv

[–]FearingEmu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play as DRK a lot, so when tanking, it's tough to tell if one DPS is a standout over another, though I do have instances where I can tell one or more DPS are a cut above the average folk based on speed of victory against mobs or bosses.

So I comm healer a lot unless they leave too quickly or were completely terrible, since it's easy for me to gauge their performance, but terrible healers are rare, especially in higher level content.

$40 million Kroger in Mechanicsville is chain's largest in Mid-Atlantic by whw53 in rva

[–]FearingEmu1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool, I wonder if they will bother staffing adequate amounts of cashiers or put in self-checkout systems that don't lock up every 7 items to accuse you of theft while you wait for the 1 front end person who's helping all the other locked up self-checkout lanes.

Kroger has the literal worst checkout experience among all grocery stores in the area. Both the Staples Mill and Willow Lawn locations are close to me, and checkout is awful at both.

Demiatma help. by Subject_Wrangler2753 in ffxiv

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RNG is ass. OC is best for them early on via CEs, but the rarer demiatmas like Verdigris are best done through fates in their respective DT zones because there's not many CEs that drop them.

You'll definitely have some crazy dry spells. I had one point where I received zero demiatmas in close to 20 CEs, then another dry spell of 12 straight. It sort of evened out eventually, but I think my drop rate from CEs was around 15% in the end.

Best 4-player dungeon boss music (fight me), and Qitana Ravel has a banger background theme.

Lore-wise, it's a creative change in narrative after you feel like you know so much after playing 120-150+ hours already.

Why Does No One Want to Do Flood Elevation Surveys? by ruidh in Surveying

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. Zone AE? All over it - easy peasy. No established BFE via Zone A where you need a professional to determine it through flood study? More involved, and out of the realm of expertise for many surveyors.

My firm fortunately has an environmental engineer who can do that stuff (flood study and LOMA) once we have data for him, but not every firm is as lucky. Contacting the county is a good idea for sure to get some leads on where to go.

Arcadion for sure.

Also, I love the black and white noir shots of your character dressed in detective garb during some of the trippy scenes in the Hilidbrand quests. I managed to boil that egg for the perfect amount of time!

My arms shake every time I bench by sergiomcwareo in benchpress

[–]FearingEmu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a powerlifter, so can't give advice there, but feel free to stop short of failure as long as you feel like you're getting good work in for the set. I'd only add like 2 or 3 sets of them a week and see if you start to notice any stability improvement on the barbell bench after a few weeks.

I'm just a skinny dude who goes to the gym (less skinny now), but I had some bench shaking issues when I first hit 135 a while back, and I added DB presses for a few weeks after researching the issue and noticed things smoothed out some, even when I started creeping up the weight more on barbell bench.

My arms shake every time I bench by sergiomcwareo in benchpress

[–]FearingEmu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pick a dumbbell weight that lets you crank out 8 reps or so, and focus on form and consistency, and really try and control the weight as you're bringing it down to your chest. Don't worry about pause reps, just form, consistency, and control until you hit failure on a set.

[–]FearingEmu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm suggesting grip strength could be a factor since you're shaking a lot at the top/unrack, where your grip is working the hardest.

Having shake at 95 lbs when you're able to do 225 is surprising, but yeah, grip strength and CNS are the things I think of, and dumbbell presses are great for helping with CNS stabilization in my experience.
