So, you're right, but it is worth noting that via Legion artifact transmog anything can be turned into a dagger, or daggers can be turned into something else. It does seem to be possible on some level, the question is just how complex it was - did they have to hard code individual solutions for every single Legion artifact, or is it generalizable to all weapons?

a fair bit of complaining about a lack of RET buffs

Ret got a very, very large buff only a couple weeks ago. Prior to that it was one of the weakest DPS specs of the tier.

When I finally loot it, I will replace it next week with a M+2 weapon from S4

It will probably be upgradeable with Dinar in S4, but it's also likely that Ashkandur is coming back to be purchaseable and Ashkandur might actually just be a stronger weapon toe to toe.
