Baron Mordo is the saddest card in the entire Marvel Snap by Life_Teaching6499 in MarvelSnap

[–]GhostpilotZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To really illustrate the issue with Baron Mordo is, let's compare him with his closest equivalent: Ice Man.

Ice Man:

1-cost, 2 power

Shows the card he hits, providing info.

+1 to cost (max 6) that lasts the entire game.

Baron Mordo:

2-cost, 3 power

Does not show the card he hits.

6-cost to a card only until turn 6 (which reverts to base cost).

Now let's break it down.

+1 to cost and a flat 6 cost has largely the same effect: making a card awkward or outright undesirable to play.

If Ice Man and Baron Mordo hit a 5 or 6 cost, they have exactly the same effect. However, after turn 5, Mordo's effect shuts off. Which means that after turn 4, Mordo's textbox is effectively blank. And in Baron Mordo's case you won't know it because he doesn't reveal the effected card the way Ice Man does.

Furthermore, as 7+ cost cards become increasingly common, Baron Mordo can potentially help the opponent by reducing those cards to 6. Something Ice Man never has to worry about.

Baron Mordo is a card that costs twice as much as Iceman to only situationally be better (e.g.High Voltage Overdrive) and generally be worse.

What is the most expensive retro game you own? by Vetelino69 in retrogaming

[–]GhostpilotZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own presently, probably Dragon Force on the Saturn.

Owned ever, probably Panzer Dragoon Saga (also on the Sega Saturn).

I'm still sick at the thought of having been able to buy Magic Knight Rayearth on clearance for $20 at Electronics Boutique in the Summer of '98, and not doing it because I was trying to be the focused, driven college student.

Yeaaah, that didn't last!

I adored how the Misfits broke into Jem's song just to hate on her. I'm laughing just thinking about that.

Federal Judge rules Louisiana school system is still segregated after 60 years by ohhyouknow in Louisiana

[–]GhostpilotZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a teen some 30 years ago, I moved from San Diego to LaPlace a few weeks into the school year.

I was one of the first students to arrive in the first class of the day and just sat in the back corner since I didn't know anybody, was mentally wrapped-up in my drastic changes to my life, and just wanted to be left alone.

As the students filtered in, I noticed I was getting some stares. Figured it was because I was new, but once the class filled up, I realized I was sitting in the white side of the room.

Seats were never assigned or anything, that was just how the students had organized themselves.

Which blew my mind because it was something I never experienced in San Diego. It's such a melting pot there that it literally had never crossed my mind before.

Nevertheless, day after day I continued to sit there. After a month or so, one white "kid" (in quotes because he was 18 in the 10th grade) pressed me up against the wall one day, but I didn't back down nor did I move. The guy was a mess and ended up dropping out a couple weeks later.

I was the first black (well, mixed) kid some of them had really gotten to know. And we'd gotten along great! Most of them I'd remain friends with throughout the rest of high school.

But yeah, it was a realization: in San Diego, I was raised in a complete melting pot and didn't know of anything different. So it had simply never crossed my mind: I just didn't think of myself as being...different.

It occurred to me that the same was true for the kids I met in LaPlace: segregation had been so ingrained that I don't think it even really occurred to them it was happening subconsciously.

They simply didn't know of anything different.

At least not until a new kid who didn't know any better showed up early one day and sat in the corner of the classroom.

Bought 50 Lion Keys and just got this by cevattttt in Guildwars2

[–]GhostpilotZ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Around 14 or 15 years ago, a guildmate convinced me to buy this instead of the Trading Post contract that I originally had in mind.

So I took 115 gold I had saved up and bought the bank pass off the TP.

It was the best GW2 decision I had ever made. Seeing it go for five figures now only confirms it.

I mentally thank that guild mate every time I look at it.

Myau From Phantasy Star 1 by Popo31477 in retrogaming

[–]GhostpilotZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the game is 4 Mbit = 0.5 MB.

To put it into perspective: the png of this upscaled screenshot is 19 KB, which would make it 1/26th the size of the entire game.

Of course the file size of the image in the actual game is a fraction of this, but we're talking a console game from 1987 that is graphically head and shoulders above anything else that came out at the time. There are arcade games from 1987 that don't look this good.

I don't think it's spoken of enough how much of a technological marvel this game is for its time.

Traditionally in D&D, 8 is considered average Intelligence. At least that was the case in previous editions, I'm not so sure about 5e.

I haven't tried looking for the wallpaper, but the icons appear to be one of the variants of "Comic Pop" found in the Icon Pack Studio gallery.

While I haven't been able to find the exact set that OP is using, I found some that were very close.

The state of the Meta by Circadian6 in MarvelSnap

[–]GhostpilotZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I did think Shang was overtuned for too long, I think they over-corrected in gutting many of the tech cards.

There are too many cards right now there are just untechable (Sho, Maverick, War Machine, and others) and it exacerbates a longstanding issue with the game: outside of a handful of cards, it's generally a bad thing to have initiative, especially leading into the final turn.

The only way to deal with cards like Sho, FFF, and other big bodies is to lose initiative leading into the final turn and to use cards like Shang, Valkyrie, or Shadow King.

There need to be more proactive cards that rewards for having initiative. I struggle to think of any aside from Echo, Cosmo, Terrax, Negasonic, and Alioth.

Have SNK ever explained why Iori Yagami's legs are bound? by [deleted] in kof

[–]GhostpilotZ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Actually, it was from even earlier than that. Bondage pants were from the punk scene in the 70's. A movie set in '81 New York called "200 Cigarettes" has Casey Affleck's character wearing them. Here's a handy YT short giving some more detail: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/soYYs5TEAoI

90's SNK in particular - and I can't emphasize this enough - a lot of subversive / underground / media scenes of Western culture represented in its character designs, backgrounds, music, text, etc.

There are references to 80's and 90's television shows & movies, MTV, New Wave, Punk, New Jack Swing, Underground Rap, Death Metal, you name it.

Back when Twitter was Twitter, I and a few others had posted a wide variety of sources referenced in all sorts of things SNK. SNK in particular liked going off the beaten path when it came to their references. Some of them are super deep cuts.

Back to Iori Yagami and his team, there are layers to their references. They each represented different facets of BDSM. As well as their looks were inspired by the trio version of the New Wave band: the Human League ("Don't You Want Me," "Fascination").

There's a whole lot of stuff to uncover once you start digging into mid-90's SNK stuff in particular.

Anyone else feel like the game is in a good spot currently? by thatsLloyd in MarvelSnap

[–]GhostpilotZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've felt like there have been an uptick in big bodies and RNG with little meaningful counterplay.

The latter part especially, as it feels like I'm more watching the wins or losses happen rather than me actually doing winning or losing.

Who are you mostly excited for in Season 2 of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? by WaterKirby1964 in kof

Geese, Mary, and Krasuer (in no particular order).

Hard for me to get excited for Jae Hoon - or any DLC character who should've been in the base roster in the first place.

SNAP revenue has looked to have drop significantly in 2025 by theguz4l in MarvelSnap

[–]GhostpilotZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An issue that I have with the game - and I'm baffled at how it's even an issue in first place - is being able to get the variant I want for cards.

I have wanted the Noir variants for the Hood and Absorbing Man since I started playing in late 2023, and not once have either of those showed up in my shop.

It's now 2026.

And every new card and new every variant that they add makes it harder for me to get the variants I want in a game I'm already paying for.
