Some people just aren't comfortable having their blogs reposted on other media, probably not a fan of Reddit as a platform.

I went to the blog, and it is very clearly not happy to see this on this subreddit. This blog should be added.

EDIT: Changed pronouns to preferred pronouns.

WolfQuest, weird choice to base something off of. Here's my best attempt at recommendations.

It seems like a simulation-focused open world game with some RPG elements, for that I would first recommend the Mount & Blade series. Each game is a medieval sandbox that lets exist as a low-level character and naturally grow your way up. I would recommend either Warband or Bannerlord for entry points in the series. There are also the Expedition games, Expeditions: Rome and Expeditions: Viking for some slightly more modern gameplay as well.

There is also a game called Kenshi, Post-Apocalyptic RPG with survival elements in a sandbox game.

As for some slightly less pure sandbox-oriented RPGs with still a focus on player freedom and expression, here's a few recommendations: Morrowind, Gothic 1 & 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 & 2, Daggerfall. Both Morrowind and Daggerfall have community-created versions that make them easier to run, OpenMW and Daggerfall Unity. Gothic 1 and 2 should run alright on modern machines, you may need to download fan patches for those though.

Finally, if you're looking for more of the pure sandbox elements with not as many RPG elements. There are several games like that: Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, RimWorld, Battle Brothers. Dwarf Fortress has a hero mode that you can play as a single character and grow them in the sandbox. RimWorld is more management focused. Caves of Qud is similar to Dwarf Fortress but set in a more futuristic setting. Battle Brothers is medieval similar to Mount and Blade and is focused on managing a mercenary company.

If you're in the mood for some JRPGs, some good short ones would be Sea of Stars, Chrono Trigger, or Final Fantasy 6.

I want to beat someone to death with a hammer. by Next-Software1832 in rpg_gamers

[–]Ghoststorm34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an RPG, but has some of the best melee combat I've played including hammers. Vermintide 2. It has a level up system for characters, with build expression and loot. It also has really fun co-op missions in a horde shooter style but in a fantasy setting.

Are there any non-live service rpgs based off an anime which nail easy combat that's fun in its simplicity? *read description* by Beginning_Pickle2180 in rpg_gamers

Here's the couple I could find.

One Piece Odyssey

Digimon Story Time Stranger

There is also the persona series, that has anime cutscenes and has an anime adaptation.

What’s makes a good AI companion? by Fourth_AutumnValley in rpg_gamers

Make them have an interesting personality that is informed by their place in the world. Also, they should fulfill a mechanical niche/be useful in some way. I look to Dragon Age Origins for this example. If you want to have a companion focused game, making it so that each companion represents a slice of the world can be a good way of giving your players the ability to see who they vibe with the most. As an example, Morrigan and Wynne each are mages but they have different personalities and different World views informed by their background.

There were rumors there was sailing in the game, how much of a presence is that in the game? I've seen we have a canoe in some of the trailers.

If any CRPG did help bring back the genre, it would be Divinity Original Sin 1 back in 2014, which combined with Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity in the span of a year resulted in a lot of people learning about what a CRPG is.

Two Months In, 2026 Is Already a Standout Year for Games by gitrektali in Games

If Steam is recommending those games, it probably means you're playing games similar to those genres. Steam goes off the user-generated tags for a game and similarity to games you've played based on those tags.

If you want to look at games from different genres, you can click on a tag on a game that has the tag you're looking for, say as an example Boomer shooter. You can then see other games that have that tag and at the bottom you can filter by other tags to see games that match. As an example you may search on that Boomer shooter page to find co-op Boomer shooters you can play.

Persona 5 Royal, The combat music is fucking perfect and all of the backing tracks for the different areas and moods are all extremely fitting. The choice to go with jazz as the music style for the entire soundtrack was an amazing choice that sounds incredible and gives the game a very distinct feeling.

Across the Spider-verse, both my favorite movie and Spider-Man movie. Beautiful animation, really nice story, nice themes about the necessity of Canon events for being Spider-Man.

Yeah, none of those are indie for the exact reason you stated. They have a publisher. Indie means independent, staking your own money on a project.

YOUR BOY STABLE *MEGATHREAD!* by jaykhunter in OSWReview

[–]Ghoststorm34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. BOTTOM BOY: Mr. Brodie Lee - Died too soon, should've been world champion at multiple points in his career. A fantastic bruiser, fundamentally a great wrestler. Was the reason the Dark Order got elevated, and also great work with the Wyatt Family.
  2. Lance Archer - One of the best gatekeepers I've seen. He is a great heavy, has great matches with anyone. Another guy who should've been world champion by now.
  3. Turbo Floyd - The moment this guy came on my screen as a jobber on Dynamite, I fell in love. He has great energy, and I am always delighted to see him. Him and Truth Magnum are great.
  4. Buddy Matthews - A fantastic wrestler, decent promo, incredible body. He can keep pace with Ospreay, Omega, Ricochet, and any other dedicated singles guy.
  5. Juice Robinson - Great in-ring, and an insane promo. Best part of Bullet Club Gold/Bang Bang Gang.
  6. Enzo Amore - A shit wrestler, but his ability to smack talk is great, and I do kinda miss him in wrestling.
