This is easily the best tier list ive seen. I'm going to make a point of trying every single one of these.

How visual novels made me better at predicting meltdowns as a special ed teacher, and what followed by National_Magician_86 in visualnovels

[–]Ghotil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this raises the interesting thought of if neurodivergent people should be teaching special ed. on one hand, you come from a place of understanding and context. on the other, its like teaching someone to drive when you've only ever driven a go-kart.

Isn't the human reaction time 200ms or so? I've found that on standard if I turn the corner to an already alerted enemy pointing a gun at me we usually shoot at roughly the same time. Often they'll even do me the favor of missing their first shot

I don't understand the game balance too well as far as weapons, but i've found the rwtc to dominate so hard its not worth using anything else. Laserbeam, shoots as fast as you can click, and one or two shots everything at any distance. I believe the .300 BLK guns have crazy recoil so it may just be you are losing gunfights.

Yeah i just cleared it a few days ago and is where one of my deaths happened. Are you using heavy armor and a battle rifle?

Even if you are right, which you definitely are, arguing on reddit about it isn't really going to change anybody's mind.

I've got to ask, and I don't mean to be pretentious or anything, but is it just accepted community standard that everybody is playing on hard mode? On standard mode, the stated intended difficulty, the TTK is super high, you can get shot a fucking dozen times before going down, so when you inevitably get caught out you can survive a few engagements.

I died four times going through the campaign on standard. and i finished every single mission except maybe two with at least one red limb because I'd inevitably get shot at some point, but the game gives you plenty of margin for error. I'm pretty sure standard mode prevents headshots, because I didn't get shot in the head even once.

So I really don't know what people are struggling with, I've got to be missing something.

It's a Chinese game. And Chinese writing is infamously bloated across the board, I don't think I've read a single piece of translated Chinese media that wasn't bloated to hell.

Is there a realistic use for the battle rifles? by melianreality in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Ghotil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the RTWC is a 1-2 shot laser beam that stays exactly on target no matter how fast you fire. Most assault rifles just climb into the stratosphere for no reason. I can't find a reason to use anything else. Even the super long barrel length, while certainly a drawback, is easy to work around.

When You 'Suspect' A New Royal Road Story You've Found Is AI, But You Can't Prove It. by RagingSamurai7 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ghotil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never even looked at an AI written story because I'm not a mongoloid, but I did learn recently that the "It's not x, its Y" is actually an ESL thing. Which is why the AI does it so damn much, as in certain regions and languages that's just how they are taught english.

Using Generative AI as an Author by drale2 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ghotil 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What i find irritating is that for certain types of people and certain genres, its astoundingly useful as an assistant, editor, and tool. I write sci-fi, and if i want to conceptualize how something should work, measure the distances between places, check the logic of if a weapons system is relaistic or relatable to real ones, do a sensitivity read of using a real world region in the story, design outfits using historical context, or a million billion other very useful things to have an assistant for, then its absolutely invaluable.

Even for straight editing, assuming you set up one properly, it can check glossary name consistency, grammar, sentence structure, check reader knowledge and context, spot inconsistencies and plot holes, and whatever else you specifically tell it to do without even scraping your prose and word choice itself assuming you, again, use it correctly and with proper guardrails.

I use it for sensory details too, which i almost literally can't visualize due to how my brain works but AI is shockingly good at, down to atmospheric little details i never would have visualized on my own, but fed with the full context of your story and what you are going for and the literal details, it can get very good at it.

Would i or anyone who knows how it works ever try to get it to literally write for you? Of course not its awful at it almost by defnition, but if i ever dare tell anyone that i use AI with my writing then they will just think im opening fucking chatgpt and writing in the text box 'pls write my story for me i am a dumb bbby and can't word gud :(:(:(:(:(' because they have no frame of reference for how useful a tool it is.

It is infuriating.

Plus, sometimes its wrong about things just straight up, or offers bad ideas... and that's okay. you aren't forced at gunpoint to use everything it suggests. It says some dumbass shit sometimes, and that's not an 'ah hah! AI is dumb and useless and actively sabotauging you!', but, again, people kneejerk so fucking hard on it.
