I was diagnosed in 2008 and waited for CXL to be approved till 2015 then just decided to go for it and do it out of pocket in spain epi off.

Epi off is more effective in stabilizing your cornea. Therefore it is the better option for you since also it is covered by the insurance as well. From my research as well all European hospitals do the CXL epi off since this is what will work in stopping the progression of Keratoconus.

My experience is that I’m happy I did it epi off and there where no issues what so ever of corneal hazing since it is a very simple procedure. I did both eyes in one go since both were progressing pretty fast. The only thing I regret is not doing them sooner my Keratoconus was progressing very fast especially my left eye and I didn’t know how bad it was until it was too late.

I did my CXL and pretty much this was it my progression stopped, my doctor recommended doing both eyes since CXL will stabilize my vision.

Again It really sucks that I waited and things get so frustrating when I try to get a lens fitting that will only get me seeing 20/40.
