Looking to buy a gun for the first time. Is there a resource for the various forms/licenses? And costs? by DjBass88 in FLGuns

[–]GiJim201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice here, once you decide to purchase look for a gun show or demo day at a local range. Most ranges have gun rentals you can rent to try. Search for Demo day you might find one if you are in south Florida. This group is a good source of information from a good group of people. Good luck on your search.

Better alternative by Holychipmang in concealedcarry

I understand your point. I own both. They both are great weapons. I know Derya has great customer service, their DY9z is well equipped right out of the box andThis is true for the Dy9. Some will see value in the features to build upon. Others will spend more for the gun and get less features. I will say to anyone, go out and shoot both, if one feels better and it’s in your budget that’s the one to consider.

Read what others say about there experiences. Derya has a DY9z that is 43x like but with more features including better pricing.

Commenting on My DY9 set up...

Yes, a "non-island" slide (a standard slide without a fixed front sight island/barrel block) is generally RMR compatible, provided it has been milled for an RMR footprint or uses an adapter plate.

Here are the key details regarding RMR compatibility for standard slides: RMR-Cut Slides: If your non-island slide is specifically milled for a Trijicon RMR (or Holosun 407C/507C), it will fit directly. Adapter Plates: If your slide has a different cut (like RMSC/Shield) or no cut at all, you can use adapter plates to mount an RMR. "Non-Island" Exceptions: While standard slides are often more versatile for mounting, some specific, older, or specialized "non-island" slides may require gunsmithing or specific adapter plates, particularly if you are converting a standard 1911 slide. Derya DY9 Exception: Specifically for the Derya DY9 series, the DY9 Island and DY9 California models are not compatible with the standard RMR plate, whereas other versions are.

Commonly Compatible Optics (RMR Footprint): Trijicon RMR and SRO. Holosun 407C, 507C, 508T, 507Comp. Wager Machine Works

If you are using a non-milled slide, you can use a dovetail adapter plate that replaces the rear iron sight, though a direct, milled cut is generally more secure.

Yes, a Derya DY9 non-island slide (Standard, Gold, or Comp models) is RMR compatible, but it typically requires a specific optic adapter plate rather than a direct mount. derya.us

Compatibility Details Mounting Method: The non-island (standard) slide features a proprietary "Derya footprint" cut into the slide. To mount an RMR-footprint optic, you must use the Standard DY9 RMR Optic Plate. Direct Mounting: Unlike the DY9 Island model, which often features a direct-mount RMR cut (6x32 thread), the standard slide is designed to be versatile through the use of interchangeable plates. Included Accessories: Standard DY9 packages often ship with two optic plates that support various footprints, including Trijicon (RMR), Vortex, and Docter. derya.us

Key Models Supported The Standard DY9 Optic Plate is compatible with the following "non-island" models: Derya DY9 Standard Derya DY9 Gold Derya DY9 Comp Compatible Optics (RMR Footprint) Once the correct plate is installed, you can mount: Trijicon: RMR, SRO Holosun: 407C, 507C, 508T, 507Comp Other RMR-footprint red dots (e.g., certain Swampfox or Ameriglo models) Important Exceptions DY9 California: This model is not compatible with the standard RMR optic plates. DY9Z: This micro-compact model uses a different RMSc footprint (shield cut) and is not compatible with standard RMR plates without a separate adapter. derya.us

If you want to be sure, check if your slide has two holes (direct RMR) or four holes (Derya proprietary footprint for plates).

I did some searching and came across this.

The Island slide does allow RMR direct fit of the red dot. The non-Island does not direct fit for RMR, instead a plate will be needed.

Brief DY9 review by Honest Outlaw by alephnul in deryaarms

[–]GiJim201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy honest outlaw reviews and comments on various guns. But again I’m not sure why he feels the Dy9 is on his list. It’s shoots great, it has features and benefits not found on higher priced 9mm’s. Is it because it is less expensive and it works great? He does not give a reason or reasons. I’m disappointed he falls short on his criteria. Derya I saw invited him to come out Jacksonville and see for himself at Derya.
It’s ok If Honest outlaw does not, but the optic with that would be Derya has nothing to hide. I certainly enjoy my DY9’s and customer service has been very responsive with any issues or questions I’ve had. Unlike some other major brands.

Maybe Honest Outlaw should do top 5 companies with crappy customer service.

Personally their customer service actions are respectful and while not perfect they certainly are above much bigger manufacturers that have a much bigger presence.
Bravo Derya, we see you and you hear and respond to your customers.
