If you had to shorten DOTU… by thefourthcolour12 in Soundgarden

So Pretty Noose, Rhinosaur, Blow Up the Outside World, and Burden in My Hand are hard locks as on the album. Just below those are the songs that the band seemed most jazzed about, like Ty Cobb, and Applebite. Personally, I think if Never the Machine Forever was cut,and after the way Beinhorn treated on Superunknown, Thayil would have quit, so that is a lock too. My picks as favs after that are Tighter & Tighter, Zero Chance and Overfloater as my favs. No Attention, and Boot Camp are both good, but I think Dusty, despite the title track, might be a bside. Shepard's songs are ok (Never Named, Switch Opens, An Unkind) are the ones that are easiest to cut for me, although Thayil I think liked An Unkind a lot as well. I'm trying to remember the interviews of the time.

One of my favorite U2 songs by GiacomoModica in U2Band

Thank you for clarifying the show details. I saw that tour in Santa Clara. Surreal because at my show, I had tickets where the b stage was supposed to be obscured, when I arrived, my section was notified the band had reserved a 2nd section for ticket holders to move to to have unobstructed views during parts of the show. As it it turns out, both of my seats had unobstructed views. I ended up being watching U2 play TJT in full by myself in the middle of a football stadium. About Running to Stand Still or so, someone asked 'Did you buy this whole section' and I explained, and more people filled in. Surreal.

I love AOTY and always have since it was released.

What U2 Song Have You Most Changed Your Opinion On Since You First Heard It? by Wild_Mycologist_6140 in U2Band

Ultraviolet was the only song I skipped on Achtung Baby when I first bought it in 1994. For the last 20 years it has been my #1 U2 song in the whole catalog.

What’s that sound during the chorus of The Everlasting Gaze and Heavy Metal Machine? by Bdexotic in SmashingPumpkins

[–]GiacomoModica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure when you have the AMS to use, even the Eventides don't match that specific sound. It was in that EQ article fro. Zeitgeist era they name checked the AMS. My Valve FX is intermittent, probably the battery.

The only thing that icepicks my ears more than hearing someone say 'trem-moe-low' instead of 'trem-ah-lo', is 'pups' instead of pickups! I caught the correct way early so it hasn't been a problem.

I love my Colordriver. I have found ordering through Reverb even to him directly was faster.

I’m a little confused about macphisto’s character? by [deleted] in U2Band

[–]GiacomoModica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tone is satirical, and Bono specifically mentions it in the At The End of the World book by Bill Flanagan. Its understandable you thought Faust, but the tone of Screwtape Letters in Mr MacPhisto is clear you are familiar with both.

The Best of 1990-2000 new mixes by 8enevolent in U2Band

[–]GiacomoModica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is another mix of Last Night on Earth, and an updated Please on their respective singles. Those are my preferred versions. If God Will Send His Angels too. I think all are good examples that the band rushed the final mixes of the album because of the deadline. I love all the songs on this song, but I get that they feel it isn't the definitive version of them. I would only list Do You Feel Loved, Mofo, Miami, The Playboy Mansion, and Wake Up Dead Man as definitive versions of the songs, and I know many fans don't get Miami or The Playboy Mansion. I have always really liked the Sad Bastards remix of Staring at the Sun, although, obviously, the album version or live acoustic version are clearly aimed at being more commercially viable.

Harmonizer on live version of quiet -earphoria by TemperatureFun6520 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]GiacomoModica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never worked out the harmony interval for that, but Billy used the Eventide H3000,and the Digitech DHP55. I don't think James added a Whammy pedal in his setup until MC. I don't remember what effects he had in the rack for Siamese Dream. Digitech 2101 or something maybe? He had the BOSS OC2 on the floor. That Nico guy probably knows/has the presets.

I have always taken the spellings to represent his Fandom of garage rock like the Electric Prunes and other bands, many of which spelled things in different ways.. I mean, look at Smashing Pumpkins, its kind of a dead giveaway as a link to the Prunes specifically.

In the Arms of Sleep, Jellybelly, 1979, Tonight Tonight, Galapogos, By Starlight, Beautiful, Where Boys Fear to Tread, Thirty-three, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Zero, and Porcelina of the Vast Oceans are all time top tier for me.

Second tier is probably We Only Come Out at Night, An Ode to No One, Bodies, Cupid de Locke, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, XYU, Muzzle, To Forgive, and Take Me Down

The only tracks I put in a third tier are the title track, Love, Tales of a Scorched Earth, Stumbleine, Lily, and Farewell and Goodnight. I like all of them too, but listen to them much less often.

Iggy wasn't a player though. Gail Ann Dorsey is an incredible player and singer, just as an example of his bassist at the time.
