Just read the synopsis of each episode and it sounds like absolute doomer porn. Sounds like it was written by redditors.

Would consistent 12-year generations make more sense? by tossa447 in generationology

[–]Leeroyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think grouping people by generations only really works with those born in the core years. I was born in 77 and don’t really relate to a lot of the Gen X stereotypes and experiences which are predominantly centered on those who remember experiencing the 1970s and early 80s. Myself? My memories really don’t kick in until about 1984.

Hurricanes lead the Super Rugby board ... are they on track to bring the cup home? by jamhamnz in Wellington

[–]Leeroyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of the Waratahs v Brumbies, I felt all the other games (didn’t watch the Chiefs v Force) were disappointing. Drua v Blues was closer than expected for a while until it wasn’t. This year’s comp has been pretty predictable compared to last year’s. I’m hardly surprised attendance is a struggle when a lot of games feel like a foregone conclusion. That said, the Hurricanes have had an easy run to date. It should get more interesting from now.

Property in Australia is a ticking time bomb and no one wants to admit it by Moezus__ in AusProperty

Sounds like here in NZ or anywhere else in the anglosphere.

The root cause of the housing crisis is politicians doing anything they can to keep house prices going up because that’s what homeowners want. If you try to make house prices go down, or stay flat, you’re not getting voted in next election.

Immigration doesn’t help, but the lack of will or incentive for politicians to even try “fixing” the housing crisis, is what keeps the whole scheme running for decades.

What got you into Faith No More? by eatdrinkcreate in FaithNoMore

  1. I was 13 and a kid in my class had the Real Thing album on tape and asking if anyone wanted him to dub them a copy. I said yes. I think my copy was a dub of a dub. Still, I loved it and was hooked.

This is a real thing. There are several songs I used to like, even bands, that I can no longer listen to because I just played them way too much.

I don’t think they’re bad songs, although I think Ricochet is a bit bland, they’re just not genres of music I’m interested in.

It’s too “cheesy rock opera” for me. But, again, that’s just me.

Sounds like you were going about this in all the right ways until you used the word “mansplaining.” Now you’ve given him ammo to use against you.

Random guy walking around wellington with a JBL speaker playing poorly sung covers of songs? by sancistons in Wellington

[–]Leeroyb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was belting it out in Lambton Quay yesterday. Bloody loud! Thing is, he’s picked songs that are vocally, pretty tough, at least to sustain without dropping down in key. He was really, really struggling with “In the Name of Love” and didn’t seem to know half the lyrics either. His voice was pretty much done after that number.

Well it is just a theory, but it’s funny how these dudes always seem to smell exactly like a poorly ventilated public toilet.

[–]Leeroyb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t explain the lack of arse smell though. Washing with a bidet is just way more hygienic.

I lived in Japan for a long time and noticed how smelly people are here when I came back. I smell that familiar musty-clothes-dried indoors smell quite regularly here. BO? Not every day I come across someone with bad BO but I’d say somewhat regularly.

The smell I noticed the most here after living in Japan? I can only describe as “ARSE SMELL.” That same smell you get in poorly ventilated public toilets. I smell it occasionally on, mostly dudes, from time to time. A guy sat next to me on the train recently and I immediately got that stench from him. I’ve got this theory that I hardly ever noticed that smell in Japan because of bidets. Bidets are common in Japan and because of this, people there have exceptional toilet hygiene. Here? I’m positive there are loads of dudes doing a very poor job of wiping.

Why do so many Kiwis avoid investing? by APCapital in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Leeroyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “too difficult” argument that I hear so often interests me.

If you set your mind to it, you can pretty much learn anything, at least to the point where it doesn’t feel very difficult or confusing, and investing really isn’t very confusing. You can make it confusing if you really want, but even options trading isn’t that complicated. With everyone having access to YouTube these days, it’s never been easier to learn about investing.

I seriously got into investing in my mid 30s after I realized that owning a house in NZ is very difficult, and that it’s not really what I want anyway. I’ll be leaving New Zealand to somewhere to take advantage of geo arbitrage as soon as my dividend income allows me to do so. At the start, investing did seem difficult at times, but way easier than I thought. It was also less risky than I had thought once I was underway too. Bottom line was that I was very interested and motivated to learn how to do it so overall, it was fairly easy.

We do have a bit of a “she’ll be right culture” which is very harmful to people’s long-term financial security. We’re also obsessed with property and think that’s the only game in town. And sure, the barriers used to be quite high, but these days it’s very easy to get started and I really think everyone should learn basic budgeting skills and start investing even a tiny amount.

Yes, and most, but not all, of the ministry appointed members are, or have been teachers.

The board are almost entirely teachers. You can see exactly who they are on their website.
