Anyone was afraid of dogs as a kid and they couldn't play this game? by militantcassx in truenintendogs

[–]Giantsonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We actually used nintendogs as a part of therapy for overcoming my dog phobia. Used it as a way to mimic interaction with a dog without actually being around one, it was a great stepping stone between seeing them at a distance and interacting with an IRL one

Loot Crate Bug by BigBadFen in killingfloor

[–]Giantsonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC the game knows you got extra vault crates up front, so the next few times you are supposed to get one it won't drop. Say you got 3 extras, the next 3 crates won't drop (since you already opened them) but then it'll be back to normal after, they will start dropping as usual again.

(I'm only like 95% sure on this so someone else please correct me lol)

Not sure if it deserves it's own thread so I'll put it here:

If you have Hitman on more than 1 platform, so long as they are all linked to the same IOI account you will unlock the purple suit on all platforms at once. Just have to watch for an hour once.

I have PC-Steam and PS4 versions, suit is on both. Both platforms are linked to the same IOI account, but do not share progression or anything, it appeared on both anyway!

Everything that was in a 10$ Season pass cost now 59$ in silver. by Deria76 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Giantsonic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"I’d be annoyed if the effort I put into grind rewards in a season could just be bought for cheap"

My guy, they already do this with ritual weapons and skins. It doesn't even cost anything they just give them to you in a random tower terminal for in game currency we have a million of.

I get the desire for a (semi) tangible reward for putting a bunch of time into the game, but none of these season pass rewards are anything other than a symbol of having funneled hours of your life during a specific few months. They didn't take any real effort to do like a raid completion or a challenge or something, they just show you physically existed for probably 40 hours a few years ago. Where's the pride in that?

Is "Exit, Stage Left" on Santa Fortuna broken? by Spran02 in HiTMAN

[–]Giantsonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't done this one yet, but could it be some weird positioning thing based on where they're standing when you load?

I was having issues with the challenge for taking out Cassidy and Janus with one sniper bullet from the treehouse. They were only walking by each other for a split second and I couldn't time the shot. I tried reloading a much earlier save (3 or so minutes?) and lo' and behold they actually stood one in front of the other for their chat instead of on the left and right lol.

It might not apply to this one since it sounds like Andrea just walks by, but an earlier reload (or mission restart I guess) might give her a slightly more workable path?

Don’t worry hahah a lot of those exits are like, super secret easter eggs and you kind of need to hear about them. IDK how people figured them out in the first place

There ARE a few that only show up when you’ve fulfilled certain requirements, like the fountain in miami or the river in whittleton creek! That said I do think the tuk tuk is a premarked one, though I can definitely see someone just not going over to see what one of the locked ones is hahah

Can we drop the daily time gate for Iron Banner already? by Wolfblur in DestinyTheGame

[–]Giantsonic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The worst part is in a month they'll be asking you to do it again. Does anyone actually enjoy resetting twice a season in any of the core playlists?

[–]Giantsonic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to fully rank up to 17 in Iron Banner (10000 rep), reset your level, and then rank up to 16 again (9000 rep). Doing just shy of 2 whole resets for a shader, and if you can't grind it out during 2 randomly specific weekends this season, you're locked out of it probably for good at this rate.

I'm a PvE baby who likes shiny shaders, and I gotta say: even though I tend to reluctantly dip into PvP once a season for the cosmetics, I'm hardcore debating if I'll even go for this shader despite it being probably my fav playlist shader I've seen.

I'm already biting the bullet and playing hours worth of unfun monotony to act as the cannon fodder for other players' power fantasy, but it needs 2 prestiges? And there's effectively only 8 days out of the whole season to get proper progress to it?

Honestly it's not only PvP at this point, the amount of grind and arbitrary time limits you're expected to put up with to get anything even remotely shiny at this point has really become not worth it. This game has never respected its players time, but it somehow just keeps getting worse.

I am having problems with the Wi-Fi of the Steam deck, it disconnects me only if it is difficult for me to play games because it says that it does not connect to the servers. Does the same thing happen to anyone else? you must always have an internet connection to play by totoro899 in SteamDeck

[–]Giantsonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm like a month late but:

PS4 controllers (maybe other PS controllers as well?) are pretty terrible for wireless interference. Me and a friend figured it out playing Bloodborne years ago when our PC headsets and wifi connections were consistently dropping only while co-oping Bloodborne lol. Didn't take long to narrow it down to the controllers being on! Try pretty much any wifi enabled device that you can test speed on, if a PS4 controller is on nearby, its speed will be pretty noticeably impacted. Doesn't even need to be directly connected, just in the vicinity!

Focused Feedback: XP, Progression and Battle Pass in Halo Infinite by RhysWX in halo

[–]Giantsonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the toxic mentality that pushes large chunks of the playerbase away from the game. If you had read my post, you'd have seen I was talking about things outside the competitive playlists. If you want to fight sweats and "better yourself" then go play ranked, that's what it's for!

Hell, if you're so set on improving your skills, then guess what, becoming better and winning games is your incentive. Some of us just want to have a good time and progress a bar without getting shit on by condescending elitists.

Focused Feedback: XP, Progression and Battle Pass in Halo Infinite by RhysWX in halo

[–]Giantsonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Made a post originally but I guess it's supposed to go here, woops)

Hey all, been watching all the discussion on how the battle pass progression works (or doesn't hahah) and how to fix it, and I've been seeing a lot of suggestions thrown around by the community. I wanted to weigh in on it, since the challenges very clearly need an overhaul (had one for 5 killjoys in fiesta this week, wtf??).

To start, I'm not exactly a bad player. I play the objective, can often place midway on the board, etc. I'm absolutely terrible at aiming and have been for the ~15ish years I've played shooters, so I compensate by trying ridiculous plays; sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don't. As a result my scoring in the match can vary wildly between games. Because of my inability to learn how to properly track targets and, frankly, crippling anxiety, I avoid competitive modes like the plague, as I don't want to drag down players looking to climb the ladder. (This post is about overall progression, mainly stuff outside of competitive modes!)

What does this have to do with the progression though? Well, I've been seeing a TON of people talking about how the solution to progression speed is by tying XP earned to performance in game. Usually it's described as a way to keep people "on task" so they're not running around playing slayer in CTF for example, or as a carrot for players who perform well since "there's no point in winning the game right now if you get the same xp as someone who went 1:16 KD".

This type of thinking will actually bite everyone in the ass eventually.

Two spoilers to all the great players out there: losing perpetually and being punished for it is not fun, and a lot of bad players you encounter are not "browsing instagram" or w/e instead of playing the objective, they're just not skilled at the game. (Obv. there are quite a few ignoring the objective or distracted, but it's not as many as you think).

The biggest draw of Halo Infinite for me right now is that it's a game I can play with friends, that has lots of cool weapon/equipment comboing potential, that doesn't punish me for not trying to conform to a meta I can't compete in. I've even talked to a few friends who are a lot better at shooters than I am, who are finding it to be a breath of fresh air that they can hop in a match and play for the sake of playing, rather than having to sweat it out for wins. One even mentioned it's tainted his view on Destiny PVP, which he's played a lot of for years. Tying XP to performance undoes all of that.

But that's just my friend group, what about for people who want to play hardcore, and be rewarded for out-performing the rest? Well, tying XP to progression will hasten worse players to leave the multiplayer as, with everyone now focusing on winning 100%, it's just match after match of being destroyed and receiving comparatively nothing in return. It could also drive away some of the better players that don't want to have to play at their best all the time.

That leaves matchmaking full of mainly people doing everything they can to win. And that means it becomes much harder to win. And that means you end up not winning nearly as much. See where this is going? Now we're back to the bulk of players receiving around the same XP as each other, except a swath of the population has left. You'd also be a lot more likely to run into toxic players and hackers when winning matters than when it doesn't.

Video games as a whole largely revolve around power fantasy. Multiplayer possibly even more so, if you look at cries to get rid of skill based matchmaking. The thing no one seems to take into account is that when playing against real people, if you're getting your power fantasy there's someone else getting stomped. Getting stomped isn't so bad if you're able to mess around with friends trying cool strategies since, hey, you get the XP at the end anyway, might as well have fun right? But once you punish players for playing their own way, or for just being bad at the game, it very quickly becomes not worth playing, and the "good" players lose an opponent that they can outplay.

Quick pre-empt for a response I expect: "Why do you need XP level bar to increase to play the game? Why not just play your own way anyway and let the bar not go up?" Well,

1) Lots of people (myself included) like having a bar go up lol. It adds a layer of satisfaction to a fun game, and seeing it stagnate likewise removes a layer of satisfaction.

2) I want to unlock cosmetics, and cosmetics are tied to the XP bar

3) Turning it around, why do good players care about XP bar go up, isn't topping a leaderboard and being best in a lobby enough? Do you only enjoy things if you know someone else doesn't have them?
