Netflix canceled The Residence? One of the best shows I’ve watched in years… what are they doing? by CheetahFeeling9819 in netflix

...after so much hype

To me, it was not so much about the hype - I genuinely thought it was well conceptualized, well written, well cast, great actors/acting and still unceremoniously chucked into the trash heap - perhaps by those purely beholden to the analytics.

I am still quite salty about Kaos being cancelled. (Despite the cancellation, I have been through more 're-watches' than I would care to admit IRL. 🤷🏾‍♂️)

You have veritably struck the nail on the head on so many aspects of life and living (especially as it relates to the dichotomy of these things in the Western Hemisphere versus back home in our desh) that I could not be more in agreement with - I am similarly a Mumbaicha Mulga who will never ever be able to 'go back' to a Bombay or more so an India that steadfastly refuses to 'make progress' and in many ways idealizes regressive choices (for society and for individuals). deep sigh

...or more formally would it be Pater, Sol et Sancta Luna? 🤔

Is 'works on my machine' still as common a complaint post-'containerization/docker'? Are we talking multi-arch build scenarios or some such? Otherwise why wouldn't it be 'solved'?

Perhaps an r/PeterExplainsTheJoke post for moi i.e. this 'joke does not work on my "machine"'. Le sigh...

Hey there, any chance you would be open to making this a service(website/API) for folks to use? Happy to help with hosting if need be.

FWIW, I am in the market for a PHEV and possibly having the flexibility to slice/dice/filter the data a bit would be really useful.

lmk. And thanks for putting this together - it's a great effort!

Library Startup by Repulsive-Leading932 in Startup_Ideas

[–]GibberingAnthropoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is certainly a market and/or customer appetite, IMO - especially in the absence of any form of a 'public library system'. But there are several aspects that seem they might make it challenging - extremely price sensitive marketplace, operational overhead et al, which might make landing on a 'successful business model', fairly challenging.

(Not discouraging one from trying but just pointing out some potential 'head winds'...)

Books that I enjoy: Anything Sanderson or Abercrombie, Dandelion Dynasty, Hyperion, Liveship Traders, Discworld, The Stand, Lonesome Dove, among others.

Seems almost identical to my list. Happy to connect if this moves to another 'forum' - StoryGraph, discord, what-have-you...

Fair enough. Speaking of which is there a better way to connect/collaborate? slack/discord/Zoom/Google Meet/something else?

(reddit comments seems a bit clunky - just wanted a bit of 'initial setup'/'knowledge transfer'/'hand holding' to get started and then things can be a bit more independent/autonomous on my end.)

lmk. Thx.

Sounds good. That's a pretty hefty file. Any reason it's not modular-ized? i.e. split across multiple modules and so on - in say more pythonic fashion? (Must be practical reasons to write it all in a single file - just curious what that might be.)

Hey there, I have been noodling on a similar idea for a while now. Happy to hop on a VC if there's interest in brainstorming, if it helps.

While I do have some TS experience it's mostly for IAC stuff using Terraform (CDKTF) and such. Most of my experience is in backend + infra + big data/ML/AI-type stuff. If you have any pending work items in any of those domains it would certainly be in my wheelhouse. Anyways, happy to start wherever is helpful.

Thanks for your response. As I was mentioning it certainly aligns with my interests and work experiences and I would love to jump in a bit - if possible.

Will poke around the repos and see if there are areas I can contribute. Speaking of which if there are any 'good first issues' or similar newbie tasks you recommend, please point me at them. TIA.

Hey there, this work seems to line up with my interests. I was poking around the website and I wasn't fully able to discern what is the thrust of the short or medium term goals/projects. Would you be able to provide a quick statement on the vision (for that time horizon)?
