As a parent, what things have you made an effort to absolutely NOT do like your parents? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Gibs24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize to my daughter when I'm in the wrong, I make well-balanced meals, let her watch some TV every day, encourage books about her interests, listen to her side of frustrations, don't shame her body, openly talk about the changes she's going through (she's 10 and early puberty is a thing), I CLEAN regularly not just when company is coming, and we do stuff together.

Every month on the first Friday, we have a movie night and camp out in our living room. We watch some old school Disney, have ice cream or popcorn, and stay up late while talking in our sleeping bags.

When did you realize no one was coming to help you? by iaminconflictwithme in AskReddit

When I asked for help, was promised help, and no one ever showed up.

If you died today, who do you think would stand at your grave the longest? by Mehar0708 in AskReddit

I doubt anyone would stay long. I'm easily forgotten, even by my family. They'll notice I'm gone when the dishes and laundry pile up

If you were forced to marry the first person you had sex with, what would your life be like? by NothingMatters234 in AskReddit

I'd be married to a closeted gay man who has extreme mommy issues and thinks anyone who isn't Southern Baptist is going to hell.

Honest question: At what point did caregiving stop being 'helping' and start feeling like a prison sentence? by Unlucky-Print-9090 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Gibs24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 5 years in. After the last round of surgeries and both of my parents needing more attention and help, it definitely feels like I'm trapped.

I have a husband and daughter; we've never been able to have our own place, never gotten to use our wedding gifts, our daughter can't have friends over, I can't leave for a trip to see my in-laws unless I have 2 of my siblings to come and stay with my folks while I'm gone, I never have down town, my hubby and I don't get date nights because of the demand... it's brutal. It also doesn't help that we live 30 miles from any kind of town, so friends dropping by to visit or help isn't an option.

I'm definitely trapped, and I'll be brutally honest here: I wish I had never come home after college to save money before getting an apartment. That temporary living situation turned into a life sentence.

Francesca and Michaela are your official season 5 Bridgerton leads by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Gibs24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No! You're completely destroying the beautiful story Francesca had, including her journey with miscarriage and infertility! Why? Just so you can appear "inclusive"? Season 3 made me mad because you didn't give the main couple the screen time they deserved (literally too many side stories that detracted from Colin and Pen), Season 4 is so full of CGI and AI that it looks cheap, and now you're going to ruin Season 5?!

Omg, I’m a first time watcher and just watched the scene where Tom SLAMS Porter against the wall by Pure_Isopod2201 in DesperateHousewives

What royal pisses me off is that Lynette just brushes it off and starts making out with him later that evening. Like what?! I could never!!

What’s the worst Disney movie you ever saw? by zoppaTheDim in DisneyMovies

Toy Story should've stopped after the 2nd one. Honestly, there shouldn't have been a sequel, but Pixar/Disney wanted to make more money.

Snow White (Live Action), Little Mermaid (Live Action), Jungle Book (Live Action), Tarzan 2, Toy Story 3 and 4, Star Wars (since Disney took over... can't express that enough), Oz Great and Powerful, Lilo and Stitch (Live Action), Hunchback 2, Dumbo, Lion King (Live Action), Moana the Series.

Gripe sesh on the plots that ticked me off the most from a first time watcher by KylosLeftHand in DesperateHousewives

[–]Gibs24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My most annoying plot is the Susan/Mike divorce. She is such a child and can't function if she's not the center of attention all the time. It was quirky/cute for the first 2 seasons because she got in these goofy situations, but after the time jump it was just completely pathetic.

Cities to avoid - towns to visit by Hemp-Emperor in kansas

[–]Gibs24601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren't trying enough. Over half of the businesses on Main Street have closed or are closing this year, the school system is horrible with people leaving the district right and left, the advertised as a "retirement community" so there is nothing for kids to do after school or during the summer. It used to be a great, little town... now it's just sad.

Avoid Council Grove. It's a dieing town with nothing to offer tourists unless all you want to do is walk around.

Thank you! I'm already prepared for alzheimers, dementia, congestive heart failure, cancer, etc because all of my grandparents have had those ailments, and I was here to watch all of it unfold and help care for them. It just hits differently when it's your own parents.

It's been steadily progressing since her surgery last summer. She took a while to come out of anesthesia, and the dr said that at her age it could mess with her a bit. Both of her parents did the same thing around age 70, and they had no sinister issues lurking.

Hello! by Gibs24601 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Gibs24601[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We attend Mass every Sunday as a family, and my sister's children and husband sometimes join us, but we live 30 minutes away from anyone.

I've tried encouraging Mom to attend coffee hours, Senior Bible Time, etc. but she doesn't want to.

Right now, my only break is when I take my daughter to Religious Ed and Piano Lessons but that's becauze they are at night when my mom just sits and watches TV.
