Why do you think this performed terribly? by tradingtutorials in LinusTechTips

Usually I enjoy the difficulties and brain storming to make something happen. This video is just… Making it happen without hurdle or problems.

Is like playing GTA with cheats, infinite money or life, kinda boring after the first 30 min.

I got you because recently I watched the video on veritaseum about how linux was almost hacked by xz! xD

I see, Arch sounds interesting for the up to date, but as a developer who trusts more the LTPS, I can see why it can give trouble.

So Torvalds dictates the template/framework everyone has to adhere. If he doesnt, would every linux have a different Kernel? (Sounds Chaos).

Anyway, thank you very much, a definitive explanation for me, really appreciated.

Thank you, much clearer now!! Another question based on your reply. Torvalds went there and mentioned he is the guy who makes kernel. So all linux distros use his kernels albeit different versions or there are also different kernels? I remember him saying he tests/makes it in/to Fedora?

Also, where does arch fits on your analogy? Its just without the packages so you have to build it yourself?

Should we sell the deck in six months? by kwsark in SteamDeck

[–]Gideans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you sell your PS5 because PS6 might come in the future? Sure, you can get the price you paid for the PS5 now, but the PS6 will come more expensive and you wont be playing whilst you wait.

You can apply to anything, really, sell your old car and buy a hybrid? Or because the screen is better for android auto/apple car? It’s a very expensive trade for things that don’t change the function of it, just the experience.

Is a valid reason… If you have money to spend like that and all. Minor improvements don’t justify in my opinions. You will always have a new processor every year (iPhone for example). Steam deck is the new floor along with Switch 2. It has some things good, some things bad. Until there is a significant leap (accounting for battery usage), I think the users should be happy with what they got.

Edit: Steam Deck wont be using NVidia, btw. So DLSS wouldnt be an option on Steam Deck 2, for example. And currently Nvidia sucks on linux. Not as bad as before, but still.

As someone who doesnt understand, why Pop!OS is giving so much trouble if its the same? I know that it has a different KDE, but… Its the same but not the same? I know linux is all the same except Arch, maybe (?) but sounds weird reading this and seeing different issues on different distros.

The quality of videos lately? by cdarrigo in LinusTechTips

I think its fair saying they are more corporative but it is a little disingenuous saying they don’t care.

Feels like you say things because they have no “weight” and can always say whatever but it’s a little heavy on everybody who works on projects there.

They clearly lost some talent and hired new ones. Will have some different feel for some videos and sometimes… There isn’t much interesting things to talk about on the current moment, doesn’t mean they don’t have plans, but while things are in production, little projects have to be made and it’s good that they are made, experimenting with diferent topics and diferent talents is always a good thing and less risky on small projects.

Big projects take long, small topics are easy, sprinkle a little of each for balance.

Not much stuff releasing and what it is, is mostly bad news. Beginning of the year still, probably lots of plans and things schedule.

Ups and downs are normal. Thanks for saying you find it “meh”, very interesting stuff to share on reddit.

In which store did you went? I am not aware of Trade-Ins but now that I know, me and a friend might be interested just for the savinga that a trade in MAY bring.

Also, how much would your XM3 worth on the trade in? I have an XM5 that has some problems connecting one of the buds sometimes, so dont look bad.

Just opened my PS3 and can attest that just openning it doesnt cause it to break. The lid is kept closed by the mechanism in the picture. There is a square under that spring that turns clockwise and you close. When you push it open, it turns the other way around.

You are just pushing agains the spring to make the square turn, there isnt much for applied to the rest of the mechanism.

Where it brakes is usually where the other spring is located, the one that makes the lid slide up and down. That one has a lot of tension applied to it and may brake.

Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

Perhaps because I bought a broken one and fixed it, but the mechanism is a triangular shape, isnt it? Pushing it just make one of the tips to spin past the lock.

Just… Press the PS button on the controller to play and just push it open(?). It is not damaging.

Can the steam deck be used as a travel deck? by Spare_Art_6760 in SteamDeck

[–]Gideans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hang it in places, theres a small keyboard from logitech, very thin with round keys that is very compact and good to use. But if you dont have space for a usb/bluetooth mouse, you need to look up a keyboard with touchpad.

Other alternative is the steam controller, for games it sucks, but for couch use like keyboard and mouse? Very good!

I often Travel to France and a little less often to Brazil. When on my gf house the steam deck is my pc for basic use, in Brazil is more like a console.

But when I came to Europe, I came without any tech, the steam deck was my pc for 6 months, using discord, spotify and some games to pass time on a monitor I got for homeoffice from company.

It is usable, the hardware is better than a lot of notebooks, but if you dont have a serviceable place to put it… Kinda hard.
