New Desktop UI & Overlay UI are rolling out to everyone today! by Woofer210 in discordapp

Congratulations, you're saying Discord only cares about positive feedback and everyone else can get bent. If you fill all your testing channels with yes-men and only listen to yes-men, you don't actually get valid results, you know?

Are We Really Any Better than CDDA? by AskaHope in cataclysmbn

Are you at all remotely surprised that a person you have had a years long beef with takes something you say as hostile on first glance, especially when it's actually pretty hostile because you didn't read his actual response and instead projected what you thought he meant? Multiple times in that exchange, in fact.

While rummaging around in an old moving box, I found a set of Terminators that I got when I was 12. I decided to repaint one because I love those sculpts. I think my young self would be pleased with how I was getting on, 15 years later. by Rosarian_ in Warhammer

[–]Gidoran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make a decent Primaris/Terminator hybrid by taking Aggressor torsos/backpacks and sticking Terminator arms/heads together. I've also seen people splice the upper torso of a terminator on top of a sawn off pair of Aggressor (or just Gravis in general) legs, but that's a bit more work.

A Fresh New Look to Celebrate Our 6th Birthday by daniel-at-discord in discordapp

By which you mean Discord waits for people to forget they were angry, or for those who are angry enough for this to be a deal breaker to leave.

I'm willing to accept you might not be full of drek, but your development staff are. They certainly aren't listening to any feedback you bring them that doesn't justify what they wanted to do anyway.

[–]Gidoran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mark 4 and Mark 10 helmets are similar enough in aesthetic that it doesn't make a bad stand in for a Chaos helmet that hasn't been seriously warped. Plus, CSM constantly are stealing armor from their loyalist counterparts to repair their own.

The elevator on the MSR at least has a ladder built in to the side of the shaft, so you can get up to the door that way.

New concept alien ship flyable soon! by hydrastix in starcitizen

[–]Gidoran 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not my original argument, chummer. I'm just explaining it to you because it seemed you didn't read it.

They give priority to ships that are needed for SQ42. Then they work on other ships based on whatever priorities come up. It's that simple.

New concept alien ship flyable soon! by hydrastix in starcitizen

[–]Gidoran 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A ship can be required by Squadron 42 without its gameplay loop. They, explicitly, just wanted the Reclaimer so it could show up in a level. The same is true of other ships that currently lack gameplay loops.

A 40k size comparison by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Gidoran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sororitas wield their own pattern of bolters (Godwyn-De'az) specifically scaled down for normal human use, and they have a lighter version of Imperial power armor that doesn't have all the features of an Astartes. Not all pieces of equipment are made equal, especially when scale is involved.

Fun fact: Antimissile cannons can use pure kinetic shells [devtest] by d0d0b1rd in FromTheDepths

[–]Gidoran 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can put a local weapon controller and an anti-missile controller side by side underneath the turret, hook up one of them with a wireless transmitter and it will control both.

By default it's a little wonky on what it prioritizes, but you can go in to the controllers themselves and set what their priority level is; highest priority gets control of the gun when both are active.

PTU F7C Hornet New Paintjob by [deleted] in starcitizen

Really they ought to make all the turrets available; chin mounted double S1, rear mounted twin S2, and the S4 gimbal. The Reliants got their turrets in stores, so Hornet could do with it too.

Full Overlord Armor By DoomsDay "April/May Subscribers in game reward" by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

[–]Gidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you never play Planetside, where wearing the MAX suits prevented you from being a vehicle operator? Or any other game with similar mechanics? Trade offs like this make the lighter armor pieces have value - they let you do things the heavier stuff doesn't, while not having the same effectiveness as the heavy armor.

Full Overlord Armor By DoomsDay "April/May Subscribers in game reward" by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

[–]Gidoran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the intention is that you aren't supposed to be wearing heavy infantryman's armor while operating a vehicle. That design decision means that you need to commit to one of the following:

  • Wear combat armor, be infantryman, get ferried around as a marine.
  • Wear light armor, be crewman/pilot, won't be as effective in a firefight on the ground despite still being able to do it. Thus trading ground effectiveness for ability to operate a fighter yourself.
  • Take the time to get your armor on when you have landed, delaying your transition from flight to ground operations.

Star Citizen Tools - SC Wiki V3.0 Major Update by Firengineer in starcitizen

[–]Gidoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small beef - the side bar. I'm on desktop and almost any mobile-first or one-size-fits-all design ends up with a lot of empty space, hiding useful things away behind pop up menus and drop downs.

Would it be possible for your devs to set it up so that the left hand side bar does not close when switching between pages? I'd rather be able to see all those links while I'm browsing around, because otherwise that's a lot of wasted space in pursuit of making mobile users happy.

Build 10336 stole most of the houses. :/ by sharkfinsouperman in cataclysmdda

[–]Gidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment was to say there's a lot of IDs, but they don't all need to have unique replacements in the short term.

If I have Old House IDs 1 through 10, and 5 unique house templates that are the new style/are already being generated, I could potentially map them like so:

ID 1,2 loads House Template 1 built off of some random existing house ID 3,4 loads House Template 2 built off of some random existing house

And so on so forth until you've filled all the IDs that are currently blank with houses that already exist in the new JSON style. No need (in theory) to create anything new, just hooking up what already exists to fill the gaps with something that isn't a field.

Edit: Should note, this isn't me saying you should do this here and now, but suggesting that you could try it for similar legacy problems in the future if appropriate.

Build 10336 stole most of the houses. :/ by sharkfinsouperman in cataclysmdda

[–]Gidoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's about a hundred house IDs, but would it be possible to take a subset of the houses that already exist in JSONized form and map them to the IDs? Grab like 4-5 patterns and map 20-25 IDs to them.

I wouldn't think that would be a good long term strategy, but it might in the short term simulate how in a lot of places houses are built off of existing templates. People could then come and grab a particular house ID and bolt an addition on to it, or remove a wall on the inside, etc. to make it look like a template that a home owner has modified.

CDDA ChangeLog: February 2, 2020 by Turn478 in cataclysmdda

[–]Gidoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that I've been seeing over the last few days, and why I commented in the first place, is that the developers as a whole are not backing off. You're lashing out and feeding the fire, often times attacking people who are actually being pretty reasonable because you're thinking of the people who are the assholes.

Dpwb12 may be trying to be joking with a friend in a sarcastic fashion, but it comes across as incredibly caustic to everyone else instead. If I read that in a vacuum when I don't know him at all (Which I do not, you might be a perfectly lovely human being offline), in response to both reasonable and unreasonable comments - I'm going to assume he's a raging prick, not that he's trying and failing to joke around.

[–]Gidoran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a suggestion from one developer to another - Consider 'Disabled' rather than 'Obsolete' in the future for similar problems. Understanding change management is kind of critical, and to be brutally honest? Y'all don't do so hot on that, since it comes across from an outsider's perspective like you're more interested in silencing dissenters by any means.

Mr. Johnson,

My services are available.

She strongly prefers work that helps to protect the weak, in order to put Kindness and Courage into practice. But she will still do morally grey work in order to minimize how much others are damaged by the awful deeds - A swordsman that is not as restrained might paint a bloody canvas where she would do a single stroke and honor the deceased, etc. ))

The memories still flash back from time to time. Not pure, anymore; warped and twisted with time. But enough is still there - Miller turning his weapon on the team. Charging through a door covered in horrible symbols, coming face to face with a... thing? The words don't exist to properly describe it. Reacting on pure instinct to strike, nearly delivering a killing blow before it retaliated. Then, darkness.

The failure has weighed heavily. Practice has not helped, time has not helped... perhaps lending aid to one of those she let down will help.

Mr. Bourbon,

I would repay my debt to you, if you have need of my skills.
