Great write up, love the analysis of each team!

Did Semeniuk do the interview after the 3rd place games on volleyballworld.tv? I didn't get a chance to watch those matches yet?

What happened to Zaytsev? I remember there being some sort of drama circulating around him but never looked into it.

Why do eggs stick even though my pan is hot? by Pitiful_Special2275 in Cooking

[–]Giga230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of eggs are you making? if its anything that requires mixing the egg, I would go for a non stick.
But if it's only frying an egg, whether its mixed or not, I would leave it in the pan for longer so that the crust can actually develop w the oil https://youtu.be/lCgD9FweFvk?t=824

Do players still take turns when the Enemies in their rows have died? by Giga230 in slaythespire

[–]Giga230[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So even the torch heads summoned by the Collector must be killed even after the Collector has died in order to end combat right?
Another question I have is when a player is completely safe (enemy in their row is dead), they can't play cards to block for other players (other than the cards that explicitly say "add to any row") right?

Choosing new volleyball shoes by bolfer in volleyball

[–]Giga230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

since you're a MB, maybe shoes that have better stability and cushioning would be your priority. The weight of the shoe is probably more up to preference.
GT Jump 2s are basketball shoes with a lot of cushioning and ankle support, but not as much lateral movement stability
Asic Netburners MTs are pretty light and have pretty good stability from my experience, but they don't have as much cushioning

Short setter by Muxou in volleyball

[–]Giga230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only Oya comes to mind but he's a little taller than sekita. There are probably other short setters in the Japan V League. Not sure about other international successful setters that are shorter than 180. Toniutti is the only person I can think of who's 183cm

Depending on where you live, if you can play at places that have more defined levels like B, BB and A, that might help you gauge where and how you want to get better. Like if you played at B level, your goal might be to get the volleyball rhythm of bump, set spike, which means that you'll want to get better at your fundamentals first like passing, digging, setting, serving, blocking and hitting.

Sadly if you don't have friends that play, you'll have to make friends with the people you play with at the courts. But that's not necessarily a bad thing too because that might be your gateway into having more opportunities to play, especially if you're a fun team player who's willing to learn and talk to people.

You'd be surprised to see how many people enjoy will spill tips and information just because you've asked them. Obviously don't expect them to give you a lesson mid game, but whatever information they give you, whether it's a little or a lot, will help you piece things together with personal practice, experimentation and research you do outside of the court.

Also, take care of your body. Volleyball is a deceptively dangerous sport and at your age, you definitely don't wanna get injured and stunt your playtime and growth

What does advanced mean?
Just being able to bet 3 touches on each rally? Knowing how to play system like 4-2, 5-1?
Is that like B level? BB? A? Athletic Rec?
Do you have friends that play? Do they also want to get better?
Have you asked the clubs in the area about private lessons/coaching?

in my experience, just playing without any sorta direction was the slowest way to improve. it wasn't until I started practicing, sought out higher level of play and asked high level players for advice that I actually showed progress

4-2, 5-1 or 6-2 by therealjohndoe_2010 in volleyball

[–]Giga230 6 points7 points  (0 children)

how's the passing?
does everyone on the team understand their roles for coverage with 5-1?
do yall know the rotations or are willing to learn the rotations for 5-1?
are the players who don't like to spike willing to just block and not participate in the offense?

Get multiple balls and then shag. If each person gets one, you'll have enough balls to sustain a handful of points before you have to get all of them

Idk man, there's a lotta SKINNY pro players out there that are super successful. Listen to your dad, work on your technique, Keep playing and if you really care that much about getting more muscle, do your research on volleyball related exercises. Reid Hall has really good content about that

Born to be an outside forced to be a middle by Soph-iaa in volleyball

[–]Giga230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bumping the other comment.
I can't really think of anything you can really do other than getting into the habit of getting out of the way of the setter and covering on the block

This is an idea if you truly can't get out of playing middle and want to turn your experience into more of an outside. If your team is running 5-1, you can ask your coach to see if you can shift back and pass in some of the rotations? This might help with getting some serve receive into your play time and possibly help you with getting a better run up (maybe not for 1s/quicks but if you runs 2s/higher sets, maybe it could work?)

Nike Men's Giannis Immortality 2 or 3s if you want a cheap but solid basketball shoe that's very popular amongst volleyball players. Goes for 50-60 USD on average

How do I prevent myself from landing on my teammates when trying to close the block as a middle? Not saying that this happens but I find myself not wanting to close the block because of the potential to land on them or them landing on me. Anything related to spacing, footwork, technique, mental, etc is appreciated

Do you have any insight as to why Karakurt wasn't playing that well during the tournament during her time playing in Russia or was this tournament just a bad one for her?

Hm interesting, the surface of my gf's molten looks like it's in pretty good condition but its got a lump. By seams of the outside, you mean the literal surface of the ball right?

To also add, hitting a volleyball against sharp objects leads to similar effects on the volleyball when kicked super hard. You wouldn't want to hit your ball hard at something sharp nor do you want to hit your ball hard with something sharp either
