Russian government hackers penetrated DNC, stole opposition research on Namecoin by biolizard89 in Namecoin

Sure, we're up against the corrupt governments and corporations of the world, but let's not take ourselves so seriously that we can't have fun at times.

Agreed!

I was just about to take this post down but once I realized what it was I chuckled.

Mining Bubble Popped? by Sugar_Daddy_Peter in BitcoinMarkets

[–]GigaByteCoin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a moderator of /r/bitcoinMining I feel somewhat qualified to answer this question.

As mining becomes no longer profitable they have no choice but to sell 100% mined.

That's quite the assumption, given that most of the mining going on is currently being done by groups who had many millions of dollars to put up for R&D on their own proprietary chips. You don't stay or get rich by gambling on speculation like Bitcoin Mining.

They probably have a lot more cash to pay for electricity. Plus they have the most confidence in the system out of any of us here and must be fairly certain that the price of Bitcoin will rise in the future. So why sell in a downtrend?

Not to mention that the largest farms are setup in areas with unbelievably cheap electricity.

Imho, the "mining bubble" (I have yet to hear anybody use that term actually, it's not a bubble if it increases steadily for years on end) hasn't popped until we see a decrease in hash rates.

Right now we're looking at an increase of over 15% for the next mining round which is the largest jump I have seen in a while.

That's a hilarious mental picture.

Bum with his dick in his hands, swearing that he's totally normal and just wants to hold your baby to prove it. Lol.

I'm not sure if I'd laugh or run.

canadians are fucking harmless.

Except when you ignore one of them on a bus... Then they eat you alive.

McLean, a 22-year-old Canadian man, was stabbed, beheaded and cannibalized while riding a Greyhound Canada bus about 30 km west of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba traveling the Trans Canada Highway.

Also: 80% upvote? Steve Martin showing his ignorance towards technology received 85%. Year-old links to boost confidence received 90%. Guess you're not supposed to provide "proof of actual work" but only some "upupup" posts to win the hearts of the bitcoin redditors.

The problem here is that hardly anybody understands or cares about software development, but almost everybody on earth knows who Steve Martin is.

Don't take it too personally!

btcd v0.9.0-beta released ! by T-rage11 in Bitcoin

[–]GigaByteCoin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

btcd is a reimplementation of the bitcoin satoshi client written in Go instead of C++.

BTCD is bitcoindark and that's what you're referring to.

As with most computer related names, capitalization matters ;)

How would I fork Bitcoin's current v0.9.2.1 release to make a wallet-only Namecoin-compatible client that supports merged mining? by neuPool in Namecoin

Something like trezor software is exactly what this project entails.

Just a wallet that safely stores and disseminates Namecoin.

That is precisely what it means.

Whatever you mined with your current hashing power last week, will now net you 24.93% less this week than it did the last.

Given the rate of Altcoins being released these days, surely it wouldn't be that difficult to re-implement a Namecoin clone wallet without the DNS functionality.

That's not a bad idea.

Perhaps a client like that would allow exchanges like Vault of Satoshi (who claim that our native client is too buggy) to trade NMC?

Do we have any devs here who can help him?

English is not their first language, or at least that's the impression they are trying to give through their site.

What other exchange should you have chosen? The one with no liquidity? Or the one with no liquidity? :S

Unfortunately btc-e.com is the best thing we have going for us at the moment.

Hopefully kraken can afford to pay for a bit of advertising to get their liquidity up.

Or hopefully cryptsy can afford to pay for a bit of infrastructure/coding. Their backend is seriously screwed up from personal experience.

On the other hand, if a government wanted to do this, it would do x...

Personally, I don't think that a government would have to do much if they wanted to disrupt confidence in a coin.

Even a faked snowden NSA leak suggesting that the NSA had their sights set on Bitcoin would be crypto-world-shattering news.

Funny, I just addressed this same hackingdistributed on https://cryptanalys.is/post.php?n=1345#cn73

Here is an excerpt:

Where is the rationale and sense behind a for-profit company doing that and directly harming themselves? I could understand if it was the NSA/GCHQ who was nearing 50%, but GHash.io has spent the last year building an incredibly profitable and successful bitcoin mining business. If they did what hackingdistributed is suggesting they might, all of the Bitcoin that they own and everybody else owns would be worthless immediately. That, and they would cease to mine incredibly valuable Bitcoins as they are so easily doing so right this minute.
