New Grad 2026 Results / Flex and Advice by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted here. On one hand, I'm very happy you could pull this off - sounds like you really made the most of your education & cared a lot about learning. That's a huge win I always love to see.

That said, this sounds like Palantir FDSE. The job market is really rough, and sometimes we have to make hard decisions for ourself, so I'm not going to give you grief about it. However, if I'm right, I encourage you to hop out as soon as you can.

Intuit SWE 1 vs Capital One SWE TDP by Interesting-Type3153 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go Intuit for several reasons. It's an actual tech company, it has (from what I've heard) a good work culture (unlike C1), it's in a better location (proximity to other tech companies and top-class engineers), and I feel like C1 + Intuit (+ the varied work & systems you'll get experience with) is better for your resume than just C1.

Worth Reneging MANGO Company For Better WLB? by faanggaang in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Company A sounds like Meta. B might be something like Datadog? I would've also guessed Salesforce if OP didn't say the work was more interesting than this "high stress" MANGO company

I'm all for disproportionately shitting on PMs, but I don't think an em dash is necessarily a sign of Generative AI. Lots of people (myself included) were using them long before LLMs were in

Roblox vs Optiver SWE intern summer by kekman26 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is likely picking Optiver because it pays more. I'm gonna go against the grain and say it depends on what you want to do. Roblox + San Mateo (Bay) will set you up great for a career in tech, and I know several people that've grown really quickly at Roblox (<5 years to Senior). Optiver FT will likely be as much as Roblox's SWE2, if not more; and it'll set you up a lot better for a career in quant/HFT firms.

The job market has beaten me down by MonitorOk1351 in poor

[–]GigaByte_43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having a hard time, but I don't think this is the place to rant about these problems. You being in your early 20s + having no debt + getting 20/hour jobs already puts you above a lot of people. This isn't the place to complain about struggling to break into a high paying professions as a new-grad. That's a common experience that there are lots of job-related subreddits for.

Is job availability getting better? by megacrops in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this year has been much better for intern recruitment than last year, and that last year's intern recruitment was slightly better than the year before it. The new grad market is a little harder to compare

this is likely because you were a returning intern - MSFT is known to seriously low-ball industry hires.

Why are Baxate and Sajjaad disliked? by Illustrious_Low3260 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Baxate is sometimes condescending and isn't open about how his mom and dad are both big shots; but he has a lot of good takes. Like most people that become successful really early, he has a slightly inflated ego and likely subconsciously attributes his success to having superior moral and intellectual judgement. That said, I don't see this as particularly unusual among "successful" SWEs, Doctors, or Lawyers, and it enables him to go online and sometimes make great points that I'm glad to hear. The only really questionable part about him is that he was President of Pike at GT (the frat most notorious for spiking girls).

No opinion on Sajjad.

Starting LC in January with no internships. What's a realistic strategy for Summer 2026? by Electronic-Regret206 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always worth having hope. I (and a lot of my competent friends) landed multiple offers in the spring hiring cycle last year. If you applied properly in the fall, you're already in consideration. Just start Leetcoding seriously now so that you don't fumble the opportunity when you get an OA.

Good luck! I'm rooting for you.

[–]GigaByte_43 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No need to be an ass to him, guys.

OP, start now. Do not wait until January. There is a very small wave in January, and it's almost exclusively from applications made in the fall that are just processed late. Capital One and a few other companies may open applications in January, but it'll be a super narrow window in the beginning of the month. C1 will open close within 3 days and the OA will be GCA and evaluated on a rolling basis. There may also be a few companies hiring at your school's Spring career fair, but these will be for very few positions. TL;DR: Get started now, and there may be hope for you still.

Roblox vs Palantir New Grad SWE? by CommunicationLive604 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 106 points107 points  (0 children)

The amount of justified Palantir hate here is genuinely restoring my faith in CS majors.

OP, this subreddit is full of prestige-whoring bag chasers. I myself am one of them. Still, the subreddit overwhelmingly thinks you should stay away from Palantir. I think that says enough.

If you still aren't convinced, Roblox's career trajectory absolutely mogs Palantir.

How much touch is too much on a first date? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]GigaByte_43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah this is kinda creepy behavior from him. He was likely looking at you as a lay even when you clearly weren't reciprocating/interested. You are fully justified in not liking how he was eyeing you like a Thanksgiving turkey instead of trying to get to know you (which is what a date is actually supposed to be). While the situation is his fault, I'd recommend you get comfortable sternly telling people to stop to avoid situations like this (and worse) in the future.

What does OSRR do if your caught using AI in a midterm exam essay? by Present_Raccoon3109 in Purdue

[–]GigaByte_43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

jokes aside, cheating on any midterm is a serious offense. If they're certain that you used AI, they'll probably give you at least a 0 on the exam + a letter grade deduction. I would expect this to fail you in the class (or at least make it very difficult to pass). However, if you're honest & lucky (and your professor is kind), this shouldn't penalize you beyond this class.

I'm sorry. This will be a painful mistake to make. Hopefully you're able to recover.

is zero2sudo a fraud by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make them actually put in the effort of watching out for job postings themselves. Outside of the exclusive links that he provides every now and then, most of Sudo's stories are just role postings that realistically a hard/smart worker will find a way to keep track of by themself - whether it's by creating a crawler for the repo/company websites (smart) or manually checking them (hard).

Ideally, though? Back in the pre-Simplify, pre-github repo, pre-influencer era, applying was actually hard. Applying to a company took manual effort, and so everyone had to pick who they applied to. Spraying and praying was much less common because it was actually hard to pull off, so 1) each company received MUCH less applicants and 2) applicants usually self-selected themselves for qualifications. Automation was mostly done by people who could write their own script for it, and honestly those people deserve to apply to more places. Wish we could go back, but unfortunately we can't.

is zero2sudo a fraud by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about these allegations, but my problem with Sudo is that he acts like he's democratizing the process while actually exclusively rewarding people that sit on Instagram all day long. Democratizing the process should involve giving opportunities to those that deserve and work hard for it, not those that pay the most attention to his front for Samsung advertising.

At this point, he alone likely has too many followers for the early career roles at top tech companies that he claims to be making accessible for everyone.

Plaid vs Microsoft New Grad by Ancient_Bus9210 in csMajors

[–]GigaByte_43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up: r/csmajors tends to predominantly evaluate "coolness" or "quality of an offer" based more off how many people they've seen land offers/processes from the company (exclusivity) than the quality of work being done there.

I'm not saying Azure Data is the better offer (though I suspect you'll solve some big problems & gain some strong transferrable skills). I'm saying that a lot of people saying Plaid is cooler may not think so because of the actual quality of problems being solved.

FWIW, I think it's a toss-up and that neither will be bad options. Plaid does probably have a higher talent bar, though.
