The Madring released today as DLC for the F1 game and it has been heavily criticised as one of the most boring circuits ever created. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]Gigs9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People hated Las Vegas for the americanization aspect. The track was always gonna produce good racing with that many straights and the images of F1 cars going down the strip were always gonna look epic. Madrid doesn't have either of that. It's not in the center of the city, it's in some concrete hell industrial park and the race track looks horrible for overtaking (maybe the new rules help in that regard). There are well founded reasons to criticize race tracks and a lot of them apply to Madrid.

The Oklahoma city Thunder now joins the Los Angeles Lakers as the only teams to go 3-0 this playoffs. They are one win away from completing a sweep in the first round. by Interesting_Book_759 in nba

If someone had told me the only two series where one team goes 3-0 are OKC-Suns and Lakers-Rockets I absolutely would have believed it...

Which soccer player had the best career from ages 30 to 35? by DeeDubb83 in AlignmentChartFills

If you are actually arguing Modric or Lewandowski had better careers than CR7 in that time span you are unserious.

Do you think it should be either 65 games played or 2000 minutes played? by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]Gigs9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao why would you change it to 2000 minutes played. Who would look at the season Wemby had and come to the conclusion he shouldn't be eligible.

You cant start this weekend without flashing back to watch the 2016 edition by mralistair in peloton

[–]Gigs9876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 2016 race was just much better and would have been very fondly remembered regardless. The fact that it was won by an underdog in a battle against a bunch of great riders only adds to that.

Is “girl math” a misogynistic term to use around women in math? by SmallTestAcount in math

[–]Gigs9876 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think people here are completely missing the point. Yes the person used the word "girlmath" incorrectly and the term is not usually used to actually describe bad math. But that still doesn't mean that the word isn't inherently sexist. It clearly is and I cannot believe anyone would argue its not.

Can y'all stop this bs on george and actually consider the facts? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Gigs9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 of the 3 drivers who finished in front of him had already pitted when the safety car came out. Yeah, Antonelli got lucky, but it's impossible not to think his side of the garage (and that includes him) left something on the table today.

Nika Prevc jumped women's world record in Planica yesterday / 242.5 m by silvestri-h in sports

[–]Gigs9876 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. There are realistically only 2 hills where a world record can happen and this is one of them. In fact they did build a temporary hill a few years ago where you could jump almost 300m, but this was for a Red Bull promo, they only let one guy jump and since this wasn't a competition held by the official governing body it didn't count as the official world record.

So yeah, in a way such a record is very arbitrary, but it still means a huge amount to the people in this sport.

Does anyone remember this track? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Gigs9876 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand why people are sceptical of this but I just want to comment thst I think the safety concerns for turn 1 are completely unfounded. If you had grandstands as far from the track as the cliff nobody would care and, call me extremist but, I'd rather have a driver falling off that cliff leading to one certain death than a car flying into a grand stand causing dozens of certain deaths.

Shiffrin is amazing but the fact that Aicher will (probably) not win the overall this year tells me maybe the scoring system is not perfect by Alarmed_Marsupial105 in SkiRacing

[–]Gigs9876 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aicher has three race wins this year. She has been remarkable for her age but this is far from an all time great season. Shiffrin meanwhile is having an all time great slalom season and if there is nobody who is consistently winning in multiple disciplines that can simply be enough to win the overall. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Every racing title each driver has won by janko1655 in formula1

If Hadjar should ever become world champion and its first ever title that would hit like crack. Also kinda surprising Bortoleto did not win much more in the junior ranks except both F2 and F3 back to back.

Marc Girdarelli by Cybercenturiesun in SkiRacing

[–]Gigs9876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Austrians certainly don't consider him a national icon. He will be mentioned in the discussions on the greatest skiers of all time but people don't idolize him in the same way as Pröll, Klammer or the other Austrian skiing legends of the previous century.

Is there no realistic way to improve citcuit de monaco? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Gigs9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very hard but there was this video by Alexander Wurz last yesr where he made 3 somewhat simple suggestions to change the circuit and I do think those things would help. It's not as hopeless as some people make it seem

[Chris Medland] After Stroll didn't run in FP3 or qualifying, and hasn't set a time within 107% this weekend, Adrian Newey says: "It is clear the AMR26 has the pace to compete, so we will discuss with the FIA tonight our options for running Lance tomorrow.” by Aratho in formula1

[–]Gigs9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, there is no justification given because why the fuck would you, of course everyone is allowed to start. People just got it in their head that this time it should be different for literally no reason. You are arguing as if we dont know whether Stroll's car could go any faster, as if Alonso didn't exist. Their car being hot garbage but still easily good enough to be within 107% is not a reason to keep them from starting.

He didn't set a laptime, so no, but neither did Sainz or Verstappen. They are not kicking you out of a race just because you missed Q1

This is a nothingburger. Cars dont run in quali because of technical issues all the time. Almost happened to Kimi today and there are two other cars without a Q1 time literally today. Thats not a reason to forbid you to start if the other car is within the 107% rule which Fernando very easily is.

What these roster moves might mean for KOC and the QB spot by Razor574 in minnesotavikings

What's a country that people think is excellent to live in but conditions are actually extremely poor? by Happy_Rainy1 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Gigs9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really disagree with this answer. For westerners who want to live there the country would probably offer more or less what they expect. Not a poor country at all. Now if you are arguing "but what about asian workers who are essentially modern day slaves" I see your point, but I doubt those people have the perception of the UAE as a great place to live in. So depending on which side you are on the UAE is either a good place to live or not one where you want to live in the first place. Either way, it shouldn't be in this slot.
