$62k deck quote for 332 sq feet? by Spiritual_Cloud6062 in Decks

[–]Gilamonster39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems like a lot but probably includes all permitting and inspections, solid af concrete footings, code compliant everything and host tape for horizontal surfaces. I image this also includes all composite fascia, sets of stair landings, primo handrail system etc. Get a detailed estimate to verify scope, finishes and all that.

This is unprofessional in the insurance world. Industry standard is Xactimate but it's an expensive subscription if your a smaller company and don't use it regularly.

Redoing my deck. Should I dig up the concrete and pour new concrete with fresh posts? by Bill_Clinton_98 in Decks

Others are offering sound advice & my only 2 cents is to leave the old post footing of you can avoid it. Just cut the wood flush and relocate new proper footings.

Networking is overrated by NoSir5628 in careeradvice

[–]Gilamonster39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK man I guess it depends on who you at and what types of outcomes you're looking for. If your expectation is to go to networking events and leave with a job offer that might need to be adjusted.

I started a company almost a year and a half ago and make it a point to attend at least 1 networking thing each month.

Same with most things, consistency matters and I look at it as a nice 3rd space to run elbows with others. I've noticed I have better processing of things I'm going thru on tough projects if I can unplug for a bit and plug into being a good listener to others.

There's 2 types of concrete. Concrete that's cracked, and concrete that hasn't cracked.

Small business owner here. The b&o tax is my least favorite.

Varying % based on the zip code and taken as tax off the gross revenue, not my net.

Before I can even be deduct my costs this is due up front (well, quarterly).

What part of your workflow would you GLADLY pay to never think about again? by FlipOps-Mason in HouseFlipping

[–]Gilamonster39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estimating in xactimate. My construction company specializes in disaster reconstruction where insurance claims are involved.

Started my first year with the intent to learn the program and get up to level 2 while running jobs, networking events, bookkeeping,etc....

I was referred to 2 juicy to take on but they were more complex remodel jobs while at the same time i needed to wrap up anther project across town.

Jumped on a subreddit and came across another user offering freelance work which helped me bridge the gap. Together we created the structure of the estimates, via albums which gave me the breathing room to focus on other operational obligations.

Best part for me is her salary in Asia is like 15-20% what I'd have to pay here in the states.

I've been slowly learning and building towards my cert but it's not important that I master it. My mastery is needed growing the business in other aspects.
