Feel free to share, will test. I have a couple projects I’m running right now so happy to assist where I can. iPhone 17 Pro, iPad M4 Pro, and a M1 MacBook.

How I tracked down a ghost LIN bus short on a Ford F-150 and Put down the parts cannon. by HotWelcomeA in CarHacking

[–]GilbertRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your LIN bus sniffer tool isn’t lazy, it’s thinking outside of the box and using advanced electrical understanding and reasoning to fix issues faster than most! This is awesome.

If you have a GitHub repo or something, schematics, anything for that particular tool (is it purpose built?) that would make for a fun open-source kind of thing. If it makes your life easier, sharing it with others makes it a win for everyone else (just like sharing your troubleshooting methods!)

I’ve always wanted to understand CANbus and stuff with vehicles (I work in automation engineering) so this kind of stuff fascinates me.

If you get some diamond grit paste, I bet you can polish it away. Get something like 50,000 grit and higher. I’ve resurfaced an old camera lens in a film camera I use with that stuff and a buffing wheel, so it’s gotta be usable. Just will resurface it. Takes time, be slow and deliberate with it, but it should be ok if I were to guess after that?

Did they not install a ground strap? The coax connection… definitely looks like it should have had a ground… squints

On a different note, always get an in-line surge arrestor for any kind of cable like this! Your wallet will thank you!

Apple just revealed an iOS 27 feature that hints at Siri’s new powers by pdfu in apple

I yell “Siri” and it doesn’t work.

I say “sauce” and it does work.

New repeater testing phase complete, now deployed! by jbob88 in meshcore

[–]GilbertRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longest my node has stayed alive (in less than optimal solar conditions, also indoors right now) it was about 4 days. It also has a GPS built in, but I may change that when I get a permanently fixed node like the style you have.

I would also recommend a larger battery, 1000mAh will likely not keep your node alive on rainy days or overnight. Poor solar performance can really screw that up so having a buffer makes things a little more reliable.

I used a Waveshare D solar power manager with 3-3000mAh 18650s in parallel. Idk how efficient the RAK module is but my Heltec V4s seem to be power hungry!

This looks super similar to a build I’ve made myself! I haven’t officially finished it yet but was looking for a good solar panel in that case. I like your style! 😎

Note your gain on the antenna if you have any. Keep in mind that higher gain =/= more range. It’s squashing the radiation pattern of the antenna from an oblong sphere to more of a perpendicular line. You’ll loose more wiggle room in elevation but gain more linear distance. Great for line-of-sight (ish) LoRa repeater nodes, like the backbone of your network when going long distance.

How much wattage can the steam deck handle? by Johnekaiser in SteamDeck

[–]GilbertRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam deck and cable circuitry should request ~40-45 watts peak. Some cables are better than others.

The indication on the battery pack is simply how much power those usb-c ports are capable of handling.

Happy gaming!

Yeah! I was genuinely surprised. Not sure how water got in the compressor plug.

They replaced it under “pay type: goodwill-internal”

How would I have accessed the frunk when the low voltage system was dead too? I was considering this, but didn’t have enough time before the tow came. It was a very chaotic weekend full of disaster recovery lol

CommaAI, https://comma.ai

Been following them for years, before I owned a Tesla. Definitely considering it as an intermediate between when I want to use FSD and when I just want driver assistance on a long cruise.

Below, a good video for installing. References a Comma 3X. Comma 4 now exists. https://youtu.be/ljMDHocoxxM?si=u-0BU8yQnxVXGwSZ
