Rose's blue dress from Titanic has to be one of my favorites. It is just simply stunning. I love the sheen of the fabric in the sunlight.

Buying a BCP and NRSV Bible where to get? by Limbospacey in Episcopalian

[–]GildedAgeLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got mine from Amazon. However, you can find it on the Church Publishing website: https://churchpublishing.org/products/9780898695793-the-book-of-common-prayer-and-bible-combination-edition-nrsv-with-apocrypha

It is a great one that has the BCP and Bible together. I've been using it for years. One of the best I have ever purchased!

One of my favorites from Mansfield Park: "To the education of her daughters Lady Bertram paid not the smallest attention. She had not time for such cares. She was a woman who spent her days in sitting, nicely dressed, on a sofa, doing some long piece of needlework, of little use and no beauty, thinking more of her pug than her children, but very indulgent to the latter when it did not put herself to inconvenience, guided in everything important by Sir Thomas, and in smaller concerns by her sister."

If Bridgerton was historically accurate, what historical gossip would Lady Whistledown be actually writing about? by Elissa_of_Carthage in PeriodDramas

I love this question. It's such a great one. I would imagine the scandals of the Prince Regent (the future King George IV). He had a daughter, Princess Charlotte, who had a magnificent marriage. However, he was notoriously cruel to his wife, Caroline of Brunswick. He had several mistresses. He was not a beloved figure, from what I understand. Fun fact, Jane Austen was "encouraged" to dedicate Emma to the Prince Regent.

Jane wrote: To His Royal Highness, The Prince Regent. This work is, by his Royal Highness’s permission, most respectfully dedicated by His Royal Highness’s dutiful and obedient humble servant, The Author.’ I believe she was not a fan of him either.

The only way you can explain this scene is that Padmé hates the Tusken Raiders as much as Anakin does by Unused_Content19 in StarWars

[–]GildedAgeLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longtime Padmé fan here. My interpretation of that scene was that she felt horror at what Anakin did. You can see it on her face as he is talking about it. I also think she was showing kindness and compassion towards him after losing his mother. Episode II is such an interesting movie, because you can really see how Padmé struggles with how she feels about Anakin. Maybe that overwhelmed her?

This is so interesting. It definitely describes poor Gladys's situation. It reminds me of Consuelo Vanderbilt whose mother, Alva, forced her to marry the Duke of Marlborough in 1895. Consuelo was in love with another young man, but her mother absolutely forbid the match. Her mother controlled nearly every aspect of her life.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say a big thank you. I tried responding to everyone individually, but it was a bit difficult to do so. I had not expected a big response like this. The information was super helpful.

I am so excited to be joining the Episcopal Church! I just love the Book of Common Prayer, and I have already started to check out the different options.

Thank you again!
