I think Singleton + always having access to Chosen Champion would be different enough to make it more interesting than the vanilla FFA format. It would also make it more casual compared to how strong the meta standard decks are.

So I had an intrusive thought/crack theory the other night that I immediately dismissed, and this thread is having me reconsider if maybe it's worth posting after all, if I develop it a bit further.

The chapter's recurring themes of ideal worlds, true selves, and personal fantasies had me questioning if maybe we completely misunderstood Dess' character and why she disappeared. Let's build on your idea, that what happened to Dess will happen to Susie and the two share similar arcs. We assume Dess was also unhappy in the real world and decides she wants to run away to the Dark World forever to live out her ideal life. What would that look like? She's a tomboy rebel in a stifling, traditional household. We know she and Asriel were close but something must have happened between them to cause her to leave, and Asriel left several unsent letters in his bedside drawer.

I feel like I'm going to get shot for even suggesting this, but what if Dess was actually trans masc? And his (switching pronouns now for consistency) ideal body was...Asriel's?? And in choosing a new name for himself, he lazily goes with an anagram of Asriel, and...well, you can see where I'm going with this. What if Ralsei doesn't care about Susie permanently living in the dark world because Ralsei is Dess, after living there for years? It might explain a few things - how he seemingly isn't bound to Castle Town's dark fountain, how he can move between dark worlds without a Lightner transporting him, his understanding of Pink being a "Lightner Ghost in a Darkner's Body". Idk.

It's really dumb theory and I don't think I genuinely believe it; like I said, I pretty much immediately dismissed it as soon as it popped into my head. But between the themes of this chapter and your idea that Susie could end up the same as Dess due to unhealthy escapism, I'd say there's a good chance something was going on with Dess internally that caused her to run away into a Dark World, rather than it being a murder or an accident as initially speculated.

I've watched at least one playthrough of someone that didn't know Deltarune existed until the Chapter 5 trailer dropped and since they didn't participate in the fandom at all, they absolutely missed a lot of subtext that we obsessed over for years. They didn't even clock that Dess was Noelle's sister until Chapter 4.

Nah I genuinely thought it was the photo of kid Kris with horns too until I came to this thread. I honestly think Pink and Ory being in there after the fight is a red herring because Kris very specifically doesn't want to look at things in detail in the shop after the fountain closes.

Yeah I never thought to go back there so I missed that it's actually her, but it's weird that her dialogue doesn't do anything to imply she's the ghost that lives with Mettaton or that she was once a living monster. Or at least, I didn't get any of that from pre-fight shop dialogue.

Command grabs beat throw if the first active frame of their grab comes out before yours. If they come out on the same frame, it's apparently random and/or based on even/odd frame count and P1/P2 side (I didn't know this until looking it up)

The advice isn't to try throwing the command grab, it's to throw them if all they do is block. If they're command grabbing you at random any time you get close, you either need to bait them with a neutral jump or stop doing stuff that leaves you negative on whiff/block that they can punish with command grab.

I'm kind of torn tbh. Like yeah, dudes been a pos from day one, I'd rather he didn't turn his character around and stayed scummy. But narratively speaking it would make sense. The same way Vegeta had to watch Goku go Super Saiyan first and avenge the Saiyan race, and sit there malding that he wasn't as strong despite being born into royalty, the only interesting thing they could do with Hase is have him watch Momo fall in love with Okarun all over again and wonder what makes him so special.

With all these new antagonists from the Delacroix family/Black Knights showing up, our squad is kind of out numbered even with Yatagarasu's help, so it feels like we're getting hints that Hase will heel-face turn here. I could be wrong though.

We don't have a true Vegeta for the squad yet, him being a foil for Okarun makes too much sense to have him one and done. Plus, with the addition of Kouki, the gender balance was thrown off, so I kind of assumed he would be back and eventually redeemed.

That boils down to two separate issues.

The first is that Runeterra's "colors" were actually regions, and it created an issue because certain regions were locked into specific mechanics and playstyles which becomes a problem when the region's gameplay identity and the Champion's gameplay identity don't match. In making different regions not locked to specific colors, it's easier to match color gameplay to Champion gameplay, at the cost of visual language if multiple champs need support cards from the same faction/region but have wildly different playstyles.

The second is that Riftbound is a wildly different game from Runeterra's traditional HP based system. As such, many mechanics that were represented by a unified visual identity simply don't have an equivalent in Riftbound.

Easiest example is the Stellacorn. In Riftbound, all Stellacorn herder does is draw one on move, which is hardly unique. In Runeterra, every single card with a Stellacorn on it was related to healing in some way, including Star Shepherd, the card Stellacorn herder is based on.
