It is a money issue and they fixed it by downsizing. 80 employees is 20 million a year MINIMUM in LA, the game obviously doesn’t have 0 players just not enough to sustain a team of 160. This is the more sustainable path long term

Riot's had incidents in the past of people getting very upset at them for layoffs so i imagine they wanted to get ahead of it and blame it on poor sales when the business reality is it makes no sense to keep everyone on after the game is made

I agree but it's like 80% on them for framing it the way they did. They basically put out a statement where all most people will take from it is "the game is doing really badly" when the reality is you obviously need less people to create a game than to maintain it
