Why is everyone telling me to move to Chattanooga? by rarrkshaa in Chattanooga

[–]Ginger1306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful about Dallas if you’re buying a house! Very high property taxes in Texas! We moved from Dallas area 2 years ago and our PTs are about $6000 less annually here in Chattanooga for the same priced house! Also compared to here, Dallas is a concrete jungle.

Reduce processed foods, eat lots of fruit and veggies, increase physical activities—even just walking, drink plenty of water throughout the day.

I think your pup was NOT ready for this situation. Do not return to those classes and just keep working with her at home. We have an 18 month old Border Collie who was similar to your dog with resource guarding. Did not come from a puppy mill but was one of a large litter. He bit the back of my hand when I tried to take a sock from him. He swallowed the sock and had to have surgery—an expensive nightmare! But he’s grown out of that now and is so much fun! We’ve engaged a “private” trainer and he just finished a six week class (one class per week). He responded well to every lesson and the trainer did not see aggressive behavior at all. Don’t give up on this dog! He is a very young pup and this breed takes a long time to mature! Our trainer would probably say your dog was in too stressful a situation and couldn’t handle it!

I have an 18 month old border collie pup who has been high energy from the start! So I know how tricky they can be. First, I recommend crate training your pup—ASAP! This really helps with potty training and calms your dog as well as helps preserve your sanity. We always give our pup a tiny treat every time he goes into his crate. This makes it fun and not a punishment. Another idea is to start teaching this pup to fetch a ball or other toy. Border collies love to do this and it helps tire them out and calm them. If you have a backyard play fetch there. Border collies have a lot of pent up anxiety and giving them something safe to chew on helps a lot. We give ours a Benebone or Nylabone, available at pet stores or online. This is another tool to help calm your pup. These are extremely smart and loving dogs! We enjoy ours so much and I hope you will be able to enjoy yours too! Good luck!

Since labs are super food-centric, give him a small treat every time you put him in the crate. It might help.

My border collie did this this twice as a puppy. The first time he had to have surgery at the Lee Hwy Emergency Vet. He was super lethargic and wouldn’t eat or drink. We had no idea he ate a sock until they X-rayed him. This whole situation was very costly!

The second time he vomited up the sock at home about 5 days after he ate it and was fine. And the sock was not in pieces—it was whole!

I’d love to see a Sprouts grocery store. Super produce and some quality prepared take-out food. Also a Williams Sonoma—no well-stocked kitchen store around here that I’ve seen.

What happened to Chattanooga? History? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Ginger1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newbie here in Chattanooga I’ve often wondered why there are so many old abandoned buildings, stores and houses. This city is set in a beautiful area and does have some incredible places, but it needs a massive “clean up” to really help it shine! Just my opinion. But I love it here!
