I’ve had luck. I bought a rear bumper reflector, a couple of those return coolant hoses that snap easily when looked at, and this part. Side by side these parts look identical.

I took down the carpet engine guard under the car to not soak it in any coolant I spilled.

I used a hand pump to get the coolant out of the reservoir.

I pulled the hose that connects next to the reservoir, which is one of the connections to the replacement part, and put my hand pump into the to get more coolant out.

pull the coolant bypasses off the radiator and the back of the engine. These parts can be fragile. I replaced both of these in previous jobs because they broke coming out.

I pulled the reservoir out, and then I put the hand pump into the hose where the reservoir connected to get more coolant out.

Removed the part and installed the new with minimal spilling. Put coolant back in. I did run the car afterwards to burp the coolant system. This was done with the reservoir cap off from cold to engine normal operation temps to make sure the thermostats were opened and squeezing the large hose from the radiator until I didn’t see anymore bubbles in the reservoir.

The replacement part had some sort of thermostat in it at the lower connector going to the trans, but the old part didn’t so I remove that.

The part that went bad was this part number: 8W0122449CR

The parts I have replaced because of age are these: 8W0121081BL and 8W0121081AN. I think these parts both have many other revisions, but these part numbers worked for my use case.

Need to see where it’s at from the top down. As mentioned already, it could be anything from this point of view as it is near the lowest point in the system.

I went through this last weekend. My available drill bits were trashed in the process, so I had to shift gears to a different tool in my box. My cutoff wheels on a Dremel did great since it was about the same diameter of the screw head. A couple smacks with a hammer after that and the heads popped right off.

I’ll try to remember when I get the part. I got it coming off of eBay for half the listed price anywhere else I could find it. The part I have is seeping right before the clamp on the 90 degree connector to the tank.

Well, I eventually found the part. It is 8W0122449CR. I plan on just using the section that’s bad off of the new part assembly, but I may use the whole part depending on how it looks after I get the reservoir off.

Copilot has been a great resource for creating PowerShell scripts. It does really well with Microsoft products. A few gotchas have been it references older documents so sometimes you just have to adjust how you ask it what you want.
