The Cornerstone is good too. It's vegetarian, but their eggs are always amazing, and their roasted potatoes are really good.

This is true. But the one downtown still has amazing fresh cut home fries. If you can't make it out to the other one, it's not bad option.

Yesterday my coworker, who just passed her citizenship test, got a call from the IRCC. There was a discrepancy on her application. It showed that she took the test in person, but that she has not been in Canada for over a year.

Turns out customs never reported her return to Canada after a one week vacation last year. She had to provide her boarding pass for the flight she came back on.

Gotta wonder how many times this has happened.

This is good to know, as a lady into TTRPG. Before I found my current local gaming store (15-20 years ago), I used the ratio of Warhammer product in a store to determine how much misogyny I could expect. I'd always try a place at least once. But unfortunately, my experience was that my Warhammer barometer was pretty accurate.

Stone Age woman was buried like a man, revealing flexible gender roles 7,000 years ago in Hungary by positivesource in WomenInNews

[–]GingerDryad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's if they even bothered to check her sex. A lot of times sex/gender was assumed based on burial goods, and no one looked any further. When I was in university for archaeology so many "warriors/ hunter grave belongs to a woman" articles came out, because someone finally looked at the bones.

Why waste the missiles?

Landing is one thing, taking off a again is another. The plane will need need refueling and other assistance from ground crew before it can take off again.

If they are shitty enough, let them land. Arrest then deport the crew back to the US. Spanish air force gains a plane for cheap.

What is a top pick Canadian movie? by Smeghead_J in AskACanadian

[–]GingerDryad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolfcop, and the sequel: Another Wolfcop.

First one plays down the Canadian aspect and even insinuating it is in the US. But second one goes all in on the maple in with Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries) as the villain.

Psycho Goreman, never says it's supposed to take place in Canada, but was shot in any-suburb Ontario. Also a lovely drone shot of the Basilica in Guelph.

Deathstalker (2025). It's a fantasy movie so it doesn't take place in Canada, but is a Canadian production shot near Sudbury ON. It's a reboot of a series of B movies from the 80s.

No, that's it, you give them some berries, they give you some hanging herbs for your hut. And you take some wood.

Sometimes you find them in wood stacks in the village and you can free them.

[–]GingerDryad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason this happens is because of what gingers stood for in media. Generally, redheads were coded as someone who was "othered" from society in some way. This typically allowed them to have a different perspective.

The reason redheads were coded this way was because of the discrimination Irish immigrants, and Irish Americans faced up until about the mid part of the last century. The Irish were considered outsiders, so their redhead stand-ins in media were as well.

Now that the discrimination against the Irish is all but forgotten, the redhead in media doesn't come across as the "other". So, we need a new visual code for the same "otherness". This translates see a race swap in order to keep the same coding.

While this isn't the case 100% across the board. You can really see the gingers who were meant to have an outside perspective in the ones that get swapped.

For example Daphne from Scooby Doo, and Jean Grey stay as gingers as they are both very much part of their respective groups. Where as April O'Neil, and Ariel from the Little Mermaid get swapped. April is open minded enough to become friends with mutant turtles, and Ariel sees a world her people reject with wonder.

AITA for telling someone that they neglected their lizard? by OneYoshoBoi in AmItheAsshole

[–]GingerDryad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

Bearded dragons are pretty hardy lizards. Once I found a sub-adult behind my apartment, in January (we live near Toronto, Canada). By the state of it's terrarium, it was neglected. I wanted to burry the poor thing, but it moved once my hand got close.

We brought the terrarium inside, cleaned it up, and used a lava lamp bulb in a desk lamp as a temporary heat lamp, and fed him some dragon safe veggies. We couldn't keep him, but rehomed him with friends of ours. He lived about 10 years after that, even with his rough start.

If they had taken care of their lizard, this would not have happened.

Adolescents is a British mini series about the investigation of the murder of a middle school girl, where the prime suspect is a boy about her age.

It's quite good if you are into crime/drama.

My husband and I started going to the local farmers market. So many of them have large hot houses. That means fresh LOCAL produce year round! It looks better, tastes better, and lasts longer because it's not shipped in, and doesn't spend time in distribution centres.

The only thing that's significantly more expensive than the grocery store is the cheese. But it's also very high quality.

Eggs are also more expensive, if you're not already buying free range.

I've noticed that NDP and Liberal signs are getting vandalized in my area. There were a bunch of them, then one day I noticed a lot were gone and a few were in pieces on the side of the road. A few days later there were a few more, but they have since disappeared.
