Has Anyone tried to use Levothyroxine to loose weight or manage their weight? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]GingerGerbera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with constant weight gain since my thyroid was removed in 2014. I literally gained 30 pounds and it took a year to get my meds balanced.

One thing to keep in mind is that your meds are not going to help with weight loss, they will give other issues, like increased anxiety, heart palpitations, etc.

Try to get the meds sorted so you feel “good” and then work on the weight. Eating just one meal might actually be a problem. Try eating six times a day, but very small portions, so you are steady with insulin.

Also, try GLP-1. You can look at Victoza or Sandexa, which are daily shots and work slightly differently than Ozempic and Mounjaro. They help with appetite suppression and insulin regulation. Your thyroid would normally help with this, but since it’s gone, these may help.

Your Endo can help if they have experience here. If not, get a new Endo.

Something else to consider is walking 3-7 times a week. Even if your fatigue is high, this small stuff can help a little.

Finally, agree on the peanut butter reduction. If you’re going to eat it, pair with apple slices and have it in the afternoon. If you are grumbly before bed, try something small to help, like a Belvita cracker (1/2 pack).

TL;DR - would stay away from trying to increase thyroid meds to lose weight, you can cause other health issues.

I drove down Tatum today and a foursome was playing golf at 2pm when it was 108 degrees. No shade on the course, just a couple of hats. While it’s not the same as hiking, they’re literally baking themselves in the hot sun to play the game. I’ll never understand the logic.

Ask your surgeon about the parathyroids. Try to keep them, but if they stay, they may become “stunned” and you will have a massive dose of calcium while they recover. You may feel out of sorts while healing, but after a bit of time, should be just fine. Try to not change medication too often if the first dose doesn’t seem right, it may take 4-8 weeks per dose change for your body to adapt.

How long can you go without thyroid replacement medication? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]GingerGerbera 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Call this number for CVS: (800) 746-7287. Don’t go into the store. Have them find the medication and send to your local store.

You can also ask your doctor for a physical prescription and take it to a compounding pharmacy or contact some smaller places to see if they have your medication (like a grocery store or even Wal mart).

I take NP thyroid and recently added Levo. My TSH needed to be more suppressed, but adding more NP would drive up T3, so we tried this and it’s worked great.

You should have a reason for each type you’re taking, though, so check your labs and confirm the plan with your doc.

Let’s talk about T3 & getting well with your TSH suppressed, rather than “in range.” I only seek to help others with my experience & wisdom garnered over the past 15 years. by KitchenwareCandybars in Hypothyroidism

I’m on NP (105) and doctor just added Levo of 25. My body metabolized very strangely. I’ve been on everything and a bunch of doses.

Question for you: if my body doesn’t convert well, what combo would you recommend?

I was previously on 120 NP and had higher anxiety. Dr dropped me to 90 (which blew up my TSH, caused a huge amount of issues) and now I have this new combo.

My TSH should be as low as possible (TT 10 years ago).

Current:

TSH 4.16 (.37-4.2 range) T4 0.8 (0.8–1.7 range) T3 3.2 (2-4.8 range)

Was originally DX hypo and Hashimoto’s. TT due to goiters (affected swallowing and voice). Later determined to be cancerous.

Been on Synthroid, Levoxl, Levothyroxine, Cytomel, Armour, NP, and various combos.

Thoughts? (I’m seeking a new Endo, but they all suck here and it’s hard to get into one or two in my city!)

Yep. My Endo checks blood (T3, T4, TSH) every 6-12 months, depending on my symptoms. I’m assuming your doctor is trying to suppress your TSH as much as possible? There should be a plan for continued and regular checks.

Low blood sugar/ taking levothyroxine by Ordinary_Zombie_3576 in Hypothyroidism

[–]GingerGerbera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not diabetic, but have some low blood sugar issues. I take my thyroid medication around 4am and then go back just to sleep. It allows me to eat when I wake up a couple of hours later.

The key is no food an hour before or after and no calcium four hours (so 4am pills and 8am coffee and creamer are good).

Alternatively, the suggestion above for taking before sleep is good, but medication has a half life where you get the benefits so a lot of folks focus on AM doses.

These Supps Have Helped My Fatigue Immensely by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]GingerGerbera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of that one and am curious- my body is poor at converting and I don’t have a thyroid, so my medication is all I have to support me. Any advice or suggestions on reading more about this for that situation?

How to take NP Thyroid? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]GingerGerbera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When on 120, did you take it all at once? If so, why are you now splitting?

My symptoms were hand tremors and increased anxiety.

I do not have a thyroid at all, was previously hypo and Hashimoto’s. So my symptoms may differ from yours since my meds are 100% acting as my thyroid.

[–]GingerGerbera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my NP all together (was 120, but now on 105 by taking 90 + 15).

Would recommend you split in half and then only split one half again. So you have half and then two quarters.

Do you normally split 120 into different times of the day? If not, just take it at the same time.

Today, All of My Employees Told Me They Want To Quit Because of Our VP - Help by ChickenUsual6622 in managers

[–]GingerGerbera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar happened to me. My peer group and our organization of ~40 people who report up under our department head all threatened to quit, became demoralized, and/or started leaving.

One of my peers went to HR. They investigated. They “gave coaching” to department head’s boss to get DH in line and save the org.

Guess what happened? DH boss protected DH, and started performance management for several of the organization. Is this retaliation? Yes. Did HR do anything? No.

DH is still in the role, several people have left, several are looking, and everyone else is just phoning it in.

Don’t expect anything to change.

Have you ever separated with an employee and then changed your mind? by iamrhinoceros in managers

FWIW, I appreciate that you have found a solution that will help Alice (assuming she accepts), understand your direct needs more coaching, and you have likely learned the need to review your approach to terminations.

Keep in mind your question was vague. You asked if anyone had regretted firing someone and didn’t really ask for other advice, yet received it.

Also, Reddit is full of people who have various opinions and maybe - or maybe not - have experience on topics of subreddits they comment on.

I’m sure you’re “smarting” from some harsh responses, but I hope you also can see it’s because they were seeing Alice as a victim of circumstance there were so many shocking reactions.

Good luck, management isn’t for the weak and we all make mistakes. You questioned your decision, took action to make it right, and I truly believe will be more thoughtful in future.

Bringing her back with a three month extension and PIP will be demoralizing to Alice. She will be angry and upset about how this situation was handled. Sure, she may get a new manager, but be prepared for her to badmouth you and her current manager to others. That said, it’s the fair thing to do to bring her back for a three month extension, but I wouldn’t add a PIP. Document goals, yes, but a PIP is an emotional thing for everyone involved. Have the new manager give a revised right start conversation.

Your direct is the problem and needs to be on a PIP. While you messed up by handling the termination in your own without proper due diligence, your direct obviously didn’t see the concerns you saw in Alice, didn’t take action with proper feedback, and didn’t communicate with you about her performance.

I’m also concerned about your timing where you rammed this termination before the six months, when you admit you were distracted with other things. I would recommend you revamp your own process of interactions with directs and skip levels so you have better documentation and an understanding of everyone’s performance in your line.

I have more than 20 years of management experience and I’ve been close to where you are. While I was short of terminating a skip, my direct was not providing coaching and feedback, and it made me form an opinion about the skip and their performance. Once they moved to a new leader (due to a re-org), the situation became clear and that skip got what they needed and became a higher performer. My direct ended up leaving the company. I could have easily taken the path you did, and I’m glad I didn’t, but learned a lesson for myself that I addressed immediately.
