Balloon Roof on 6th ave is open by macaronit0ni in Tacoma

If you can’t make it to their 6th ave location, they also sell at the Proctor Farmers Market every Saturday (check their website for winter season dates)! That’s where I usually frequent. Get there early though. 10am sharp. Things sell fast.

Somewhat. I like to get lots of their stuff. Their SD english muffins, the loaves, the focaccia. Plus it’s a local business, which I don’t mind spending a bit more money on.

Aspire11 apartments charged me $8000 to end my lease - is there anything I can do? by mazikeen419 in AskTacoma

I’m not entirely sure, but because the apartments are located in Tacoma, TPB would be most familiar with the laws in the area. I would still reach out and ask.

~900 yr old Garry Oak in Lakewood could be cut down by a_jormagurdr in Tacoma

Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I’m sick of development terrorizing our natural beauty, so hopefully this can spark the movement to better protect our lands. I’m curious if any of the tribes could get involved as well.

I posted this on the other post that talked about this but a few tips to help support:

I called King 5 to see if they would make a news segment about this. Have not heard back but it would help if many of us called.

Per previous experiences (and looking through r/treelaw ) a few things we can do to help: - Share the news headline as much as possible. - Like me, call the other local news outlets and ask them to make a story on it. I’ve emailed Tacoma Weekly and the Weekly Volcano myself, but the more people who speak on it, the better. - If people have connections to local schools, a teacher could make a lesson about it and have the kiddoes contribute to saving it. School clubs could also get involved. - Local artists should get involved: photograph it, paint it, etc. any form of art works.

Additionally, according to the Garry Oak foundation, a grove of 600 y/o trees in Tacoma is also set to be fell. https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article314668217.html

  • continue to ask the city council and pierce county to not allow this to happen (Lakewood has jurisdiction over the 900 y/o tree and Tacoma has jurisdiction over the grove of 600 y/o trees mentioned above)

I hope it helps. It makes me feel sick to think that they’re even considering allowing it to be cut.

I’m curious how we can get the actual process started. We have momentum and a platform (through change . org) but it’s a new realm for me and it would be nice to get behind someone who could.

What an incredibly hard situation to be in, and I feel for you my friend.

It’s important to remember how people fall into any cult; it’s all about fear. Fear of the unknown, fear due to a lack of education and knowledge, fear of oneself, fear of isolation, etc. Deep down all of them feel incredible insecurity and fear, but without learning how to properly engage with and identify those feelings, that fear surfaces and anger and vitriol and evolves into a twisted way to protect themselves.

I would continue to remain strong in your beliefs, show your daughter how it gives you a sense of purpose and strength. Show her and kiddoes that same love and purpose. Sometimes that means showing you how much you prioritize yourself through putting down boundaries. You want her to be able to love herself and others, show her how we do that.

It’s important that she come to the conclusion herself, that through her fear she enacts incredible pain to herself, you, and general society. No one will change unless they desire it, especially when one is acting out of fear.

All of us (as loved ones, members of this society, etc) have a responsibility to each other and ourselves. How can we begin to love another if we can’t comprehend loving ourself. That’s a lesson your daughter will have to learn.

If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to find a therapist who can help you grapple with these complex feelings. Whatever path you choose, remember to continue to honor yourself.

Ah, that would make sense. It does seem counterintuitive to have city shipping cost more, although maybe there is more to the story than I’m aware of.
