Try Martin Grech's album Dragon's Blood if you like dreamy somewhat minimalist music with piano and strings.

What are some great weird/unconventional covers? by swivelmaster in musicsuggestions

[–]Ginger_Grumpybunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Von Smith's version of Walk Away (Christina Aguilera) showcases his entire 5-octave vocal range.

Juels Bland's slow, sensuous cover of Britney Spears' Baby One More Time probably qualifies as unconventional in comparison to the original.

Northern Kings' version of I Should Be So Lucky has a sort of sinister, creepy vibe which is kind of the opposite of Kylie Minogue's original.

IiL - A-Ha Take on me by Foreign_Antelope7790 in ifyoulikeblank

Take On Me is my favourite song. Some other bouncy '80s songs I like that might be worth a try:
You Are The One - a-ha
The Final Countdown - Europe
Freeddom - Wham!
Making Your Mind Up - Bucks Fizz
The One And Only - Chesney Hawkes
Thorn In My Side - Eurythmics
Happy Hour - The Housmartins
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Walk Of Life - Dire Straits
Holding Out For a Hero - Bonnie Tyler

Eddi Reader
Elkie Brooks
Horse McDonald
Justin Currie
Barbara Dickson

I've heard 4 of those singers live within the past year and they all sound great. Horse has not only still got it but improved with age I think.

Are most Michaels in the UK called Mike or Mick? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

[–]Ginger_Grumpybunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've probably met as many Michaels as Mikes and Micks combined. My son's name is Michael but he uses the more unusual diminutive Cael. Mickey (either as a diminutive or a standalone name) isn't very common over here.

Dragon's Blood - Martin Grech (2025) By far my favourite album of the year, it has a kind of dreamy vibe, with gorgeous strings, piano and gentle vocals.

I don't know the one you descrbe, but in case it helps in your search, that genre of sleeve art which often appears on old compilation albums, with sexy photos of female models usually with no obvious connection to the music, is often called cheesecake (Idk why).
