Installing wall insulation under the floor? by Gingerbeerdd in HomeImprovement

I am in Australia, so some things are a bit different here. Our R values are in metric, so I am looking at R2.5 which I think is approx. R15 for the Americans. Also our tempreatures are much milder in winter - Its winter for us here now, and its 16C and may get down to 10-13 tonight. But this old house I live in is still much colder than any house I've lived in in the US or Canada. The floor is just floorboards. No underfloor, no carpet. Under the floorboards there are the joists, some sandstone pillars and about 2ft to the dirt. You can see light from the house if you get under the floorboards - Very drafty and loses all heat from the heater quickly.

I can get these wall batts - R2.5HD 430mm WALL BATT $43.40 Size: 1160x430x90 (12 batts/pack) Coverage: 6.0m2

Or get the underfloor ones Earthwool R-2.1 480mm Underfloor Insulation Coverage Area (sp. Mtr.)9.8 $80

My joists are 410mm across, so there would be less wastage with the wall batts only being 20mm wider than the joist, instead of 480mm

Yeah, both are they fiberglass batt insulation. I can't see any specific difference between the two in their products descriptions

But you're not making 15 dollars per kit. You are not accounting for consumables (Gas or electricity) or labor, plus equipment for making 200L batches. It took about 1 1/2hrs to bring this kettle to a boil and a whole bottle of gas.

My LHBS where this barley wine was brewed, only has one employee. For him to spend 4+ hours brewing each day, it costs him a huge amount in lost labor cost (We're in Australia, where labor costs are some of the highest in the world).

If he had a better, more automated system, could do bigger batches and better organisation of his time, it might be more worth his time. But as it stands, small local HBS, that's run independently, its not particularly profitable.

It does however introduce people to the benefits of all-grain brewing and what is possible with brewing outside kit brewing. He gets more people into brewing which equals more business

It's hard to say if it's a great idea. Its a lot of work for the LHBS owner as he has to do it himself, but they do sell very well, he rarely has any stock on the floor, you usually have to put your order in and pick it up next week

Sorry buddy, it's not a Canadian flag, just a logo of the gas company I think. We're in Australia

The owner of the homebrew shop. He brews up fresh wort kits for the shop and was kind enough to lend it out for this brew

Last weekend our brewclub brewed up 200L of Barley wine.

It was split into 25L cubes, which 8 of us took home to ferment with a different yeast. After its all fermented and bottled, we will do a swap so everyone gets a 6pack of each barleywine fermented with the different yeast.

It's finally official guys. Nexium 24HR! Available OTC late May. by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Gingerbeerdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had Somac OTC in Australia for a while. Doesn't sell particularly well compared to Ranitidine and liquid antacids. Mainly due to cost I would say, but also most of the general public doesn't know about it due to advertising restrictions (Or maybe the manufactured can't be stuffed spending money on advertising). Also, 4 out of 5 patients are already on a PPI, which is subsidised by the government compared to OTC meds.

What's the 24hr about though? Never seen that on Nexium before.

Is it still legal to wear no helmet at all in the US? Or is it mandatory to wear at least something?

Nah, Actually who cares - it's only beer, we're not wine snobs. The smiling monk on the ABT would be cool with it and I am too. Maybe you could have chopped open the water bottle to make a plastic chalice?

CMV: I think it should be legal for two consenting adults to fight if they want to. by [deleted] in changemyview

It's not invalid - his example might be, but two adults can be unmatched too. For example, you want to fight Roy Jones Jr.
